In the Line: Heard it was a Spanish-language film about a guy who's life unravels and so he heads to a beach town in Peru. Had heard it was ok, but not much other buzz on it.
In the Theater: Solid, but kind of slow. Wasn't unengaging, but at the same time nothing ever really large happens. They get to the beach, party, hook up, fight, do drugs. Meh. Read More...

In the Line: The most exciting part about Sundance is the entire waiting in line experience -- especially when one of your great friends are in the film! Carrie Lazar, a bio-diesel driver, was the sole reason why I went to this screening. The vibe was of excitement and the hope that this film will not be a 2-hour brain washing gimic that preaches more than teaches. People spoke about the grassroots marketing efforts of marked bio-diesel taxi cabs driving up and down main street to trying to fully understand what exactly this whole bio-diesel thing is and does it really have anything to do with them. Those who've seen "Juno" know that the iconic movie teen is wise beyond her years. Now, one source of that wisdom is eager to return the love.
"I was honored by that," grinned legendary punk rocker Patti Smith at Sundance Monday, discussing a shout-out to her in the hit film. “It makes me really happy; I get really excited when I walk on stage and see teenagers and people in their twenties."
These days, Smith is enjoying her recent induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, and is performing packed concerts in Park City to promote a documentary entitled "Patti Smith: Dream of Life." And thanks to that now-famous scene when Jason Bateman asks Ellen Page what she considers the greatest music of all time (resulting in quick shots of punk pioneers, including Smith), the 61-year-old is once again being discovered by a new generation. On the Line: I'm surrounded by olds. This fact -- coupled with one-two punch from the dude who whispered under his breath, "I heard it's not that good," and my esteemed colleague Larry Carroll's minimalist review ("It starts like 'The Player' but ends like 'S1mone'") -- does not bode well for the film.
