'Conan the Barbarian'Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

Conan O'Brien is currently facing down one of the deadliest demons he's ever crossed: NBC, whose decision to move Jay Leno back into the coveted 11:35 PM slot has left the redheaded late night personality in an awkward predicament. Aside from crafting a strongly worded memo, what can the funnyman do in his darkest hour?

For one, he could take a page from "Conan the Barbarian," my pick for today's Sick Day Stash. Read More...

If you're ever looking for a good reason to excuse yourself from a group field trip to the local whore house, just turn to your friends and utter the words: "Bordello of Blood." If they don't understand what that means, then it's time to dust off the old DVD. Read More...

New Year's Eve is a time for celebrating the year gone by and the year yet to come. It is an occasion where mirth and merriment are equally abundant. Champagne flows from bottles like the greatest of geysers. Loved ones and devil worshippers gather together for the coming birth of Satan's son into our mortal realm. Confetti is spilled everywhere and laughter hangs thick in the —

Wait, you're not familiar with that Satan part? Really? Read More...

One of the great things about the holiday season is the plethora of fantastic holiday movies that come with it. Everybody has their favorites: some go for the classics like "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story," while others are interested in twists on the genre such as in "Die Hard," and still others are more inclined for modern holiday fare like "Four Christmases" and "Elf."

But for me, it's always about Jim Henson's "The Christmas Toy." Read More...

The choice sleepover movie in the mid-90's was "Clueless." With a tagline like "Sex. Clothes. Popularity. Is there a problem here?" the answer was clearly no. It was witty. Funny. Fashionable. Hip. Awesome. Very, very awesome. Read More...

With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s. Don't hate. Read More...

Bette Midler. Sarah Jessica Parker. Goldie Hawn. Diane Keaton. Do I need to say more?

Well, I guess I should. "The First Wives Club." Is that enough? Okay fine… then I'll have to tell you more about the film. Read More...

My "Rosenberg" last name speaks to my Jewish heritage, but that's never stopped "Scrooged" from being one of my favorite holiday movies. I can't remember the first time I saw this one. I might've been in a theater, but it could just as easily have been on cable. Doesn't matter. It's a brilliant send-up of Charles Dickens' classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly pursuers, "A Christmas Carol." And it stars Bill Murray. So it's pretty much perfect. Read More...

With "Ninja Assassin" hitting theaters this week, it seemed the perfect time to put the spotlight on one my favorite masterpiece of sick-day cinema: 1985's "American Ninja." Read More...

My favorite superhero film of all time is called "Condorman." You've probably never heard of it. It's not an Oscar-nominated picture. It's not particularly well-liked. It isn't based on a comic book. It isn't available on DVD, at least not in the United States. Until recently, I hadn't even seen it since elementary school. To most, it's the very definition of movie theater trash.

To me, it's cinematic gold. Read More...
