Dark Knight RisesThe MTV Movie Brawl 2012 is officially on! After the initial play-in and wild card rounds, 16 films have been selected to compete in a series of head-to-head single elimination matches in our March Madness-style bracket. In the end, only one of these flicks can be crowned the can't-miss movie of the year, and the choice is entirely up to YOU. Which movie will win the brawl for it all? Vote at MTV Movies Blog and make your choice known!

Two of the most important comic book movies of 2012 — heck, of all time — are about to enter the arena in a head-to-head match-up that many would agree is a long time coming. In one corner, the hero that Gotham needs. In the other, Earth's Mightiest Heroes. How can one superpower-less crime-fighter defeat a veritable army of superheroes?

Well… you do know he's Batman, right?

(3) "The Dark Knight Rises" vs. (6) "Marvel's The Avengers"
Christopher Nolan's conclusion to his Batman trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises," is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year. But the exact same could be said for "The Avengers," Marvel's answer to DC's biggest effort of 2012. Two rival universes are about to collide as the Caped Crusader charges headfirst at Iron Man, Thor, Cap and their allies in this first round battle. Both movies performed well beneath our expectations in round one, so our guess is as good as yours. We do know this, though: whoever wins, it's going to be one hell of an epic fight.

We never said we were going to make this easy on you, did we?

The Wild Card round of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 allowed five new competitors into this competition, and ultimately, four did well enough to make it into our 16-film bracket. Two of those movies featured one of Hollywood's hottest actors, but now, one of them has to be eliminated… and the very, very difficult decision is currently in your hands.

(4) "Cosmopolis" vs. (5) "Bel Ami"
It's Robert Pattinson versus Robert Pattinson in our second match of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, presenting a seemingly impossible choice for RPattz lovers. How do you decide between one movie over the other? It comes down to which of the two projects piques your interest more: "Cosmopolis," the surrealist thriller from visionary auteur David Cronenberg, or "Bel Ami," the adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's novel that sees Rob locking lips with Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas. It's a difficult decision, one we certainly don't envy. All the same, we're more than a bit curious to see the outcome…

Sixteen movies. Fifteen battles. One must-see movie.

Those are the stakes of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, which after a weeklong play-in round, officially kicks off today with our March Madness-style bracket. Voting for the Brawl's Sweet 16 competitors is officially open, and we begin with a showdown between one of the most popular franchises in modern history as well as a series that first began a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

(1) "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2" Vs. (8) "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D"
Despite being one of the mouthiest headlines of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, "Twilight" versus "Star Wars" isn't exactly the first battle you think of when considering heated movie rivalries. But in this case, you have one series — "Twilight" — that took the world by storm in recent years, presenting us with a new trio of Hollywood's hottest actors. In the other corner is "Star Wars," a saga that isn't producing new movies these days (though the 3D theatrical rerelease of "Phantom Menace" is definitely worthy of fans' excitement) but still has one of the strongest fan bases of any film series out there. On paper, based on round one results, this shouldn't be much of an obstacle for "Twilight." But if "Star Wars" fans (and others who want to see "Twilight" go down early) band together, we could be in for one heck of a surprise.

MTV Movie Brawl 2012

After first-round voting closed on Sunday afternoon, the MTV Movies selection team locked itself in a room with a lot of food, a limited amount of oxygen, and one all-important goal: seed this bracket.

To that end, we weighed a number of criteria to select each film's ranking. We noted first-round voting totals, overall buzz, potential box-office performance and a slew of other benchmarks. The choices were tough. Some arguments were heated. But ultimately we walked away with a 16-team bracket we're proud to offer up for the inaugural MTV Movie Brawl.

But hey, don't agree with us? Show us we got it wrong by voting for your favorite can't-miss flick of the year. After all, YOU are in charge! Just click the bracket above and START BRAWLING!!!

A Christmas StoryBecause it's Christmas, the season of too many holiday-themed cookies, dinners, music (except for "Last Christmas," by Wham!, because that is the best Christmas song ever.), etc. what better way to spend some alone time at your computer away from those crazy and noisy relatives than with our excellent poll: Who Is The Best Onscreen Santa?

In compiling the candidates for this poll, I realized that there are way more awesome Santas in film than I thought. Therefore I had to be really picky and play favorites because, well, this is my poll. So without further ado, here are your five candidates...

Edmund Gwenn, "A Miracle On 34th Street"
From one of the most classic Christmas movies comes the most classic Santa on this list. Renowned character actor Edmund Gwenn's performance was so well-received that he won a Best Supporting Actor for it.

A Christmas StorySo many classic Christmas movies have toys that everyone wants. That toy might not even be real, but that didn't stop us from dreaming that somehow Santa would bring us the gift that didn't actually exist. So as we open our presents on this Christmas morning, we've made a list of some of our favorite Christmas movie toys.

Turbo Man
The toy every young boy wanted gave Arnold Schwarzenegger one of the worst last-minute holiday shopping experiences of all time in "Jingle All the Way," but it was totally worth it. Turbo Man has everything that a great action figure should have, but most importantly, he has a jet pack. Being the good dad Arnie was (in this movie, at least), Arnold faced off with Sinbad and pulled out all the stops in order to bring the awesome action figure home.
