Oblivion

Tom Cruise has had a rough time at the box office in recent years. Aside from the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, the A-lister hasn't registered an opening weekend north of $30 million since 2005's "War of the Worlds."

That all changed with "Oblivion," which opened early overseas to strong ticket sales and debuted this weekend in the U.S. to $38 million. To date, the sci-fi actioner from "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinksi has banked $150 million.

But what did you think of "Oblivion"? The film, which also stars Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, and Andrea Riseborough, didn't exactly wow the critics, many of whom referenced a lack of originality.

Rarely has a snub gone on to define a category, but this year's Best Director race has been marked by the absence of Ben Affleck.

Watch MTV's official Oscars roundtable and see our predictions!

Before his film "Argo" went on an awards tear and started cleaning up at every ceremony, his lack of a nomination seemed like an oversight, but now it's just flat wrong, since he likely would have won.

But that's what's so great about MTV Movies Blog's You Decide 2013 polls; you don't have to listen to what the Academy says. You choose the winner.

This is it. We mean it this time. We have reached the finals of MTV's ultimate competition to determine the most anticipated movie of 2013.

It comes down to two of YA's most popular series, "The Hunger Games" and "The Mortal Instruments." In terms of the Movie Brawl, "Catching Fire" is the returning combatant looking for revenge after a bitter defeat last year, and "City of Bones" is the young hot shot out to prove itself in the film world.

Considering how close the last round was, you'll want to start voting early and often for the finals, which you can do by clicking the image above. Also, to help gain support for your movie, click past the jump to find cover photos for Facebook and Twitter to spread the word!

The brawl for it all is officially on!

Voting for round one of the MTV Movie Brawl 2013 is officially open, giving you the chance to pick the film you're most excited for in the coming year. Here's how it works: after the jump, vote for the films you're most excited to see in 2013 from our list of 40 movies. You'll be able to fight for your movie of choice in this play-in round until voting closes early on Monday morning (January 14). And if you don't see the movie you're most excited about on our poll, leave the film's title in the comments section or tweet it to @MTVMoviesBlog using the hash-tag #MTVMovieBrawl — if your unrepresented movie of choice gets enough fan support, we'll add it to the poll later in the week as a wild card entry.

But be warned: round one will knock out a huge chunk of the competition. Starting January 14, our original list of 40 will be whittled down to 16 movies based on your votes. That's when our bracket launches and the 16 flicks will start going head-to-head, March Madness-style, in single-elimination contests — until only one movie reigns supreme.

So, without further ado, click on the photo above to start voting on your most anticipated movies of 2013!

Which film are you rooting for in MTV Movie Brawl 2013? Let us know in the comments section or hit us up on Twitter!

Hobbit

You waited patiently—or not so patiently—for your return trip to Middle-earth, and finally, finally, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" hits theaters and lots of people went to see it.

Despite only middling reviews, the first leg of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" prequel trilogy opened with an impressive $84.7 million, which was good enough for a new record. It was the highest three-day debut ever in December.

But we want to know what you thought. Vote in the poll below to share your thoughts on "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

Lincoln

After two weekends of battling it out, three weathered combatants will once again square off at the weekend box office.

With the only new release being "Killing Them Softly," the R-rated crime film from "Assassination of Jesse James" team Brad Pitt and director Andrew Dominik," the three holdover from the previous weeks are expected to dominate once again.

But what will you be seeing? Are you finally going to get around to seeing "Lincoln"? (Because you really should.) Or is "Skyfall" more your cup of tea? But of course, there's also "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." Decisions, decisions.

Twilight

Well, that wasn't very surprising. After four and a half years, "The Twilight Saga" came to an end this past weekend and made a ton of money. Not quite "Harry Potter" money, but it sold enough tickets to make it the eighth biggest opening weekend of all time.

The critics were split right down the middle however. Though "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" sits atop the box office results, its score at Rotten Tomatoes sits at 49 percent, which is pretty much the standard Tomato-Meter score at this point.

But we want to know what you thought? Vote in our reader poll after the jump to tell us how you felt "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" stacked up.

Then head over to Hollywood Crush to vote which "Twilight" movie rules them all.
