Russell Brand certainly knew his audience at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Who can forget the way he would randomly shout, "Twilight! Hunger Games!" during his monologue at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday (June 3)?
Considering the massive fan bases for the soon-to-draw-to-a-close "Twilight Saga" and the still-three-movies-to-come "Hunger Games" behemoth, it wasn't hard to predict that both series would leave Universal City, California with at least a few Golden Popcorn statues.
"The Hunger Games" collected four of them, in fact, including Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Fight and Best On-Screen Transformation. Kristen Stewart making out with herself (after Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner declined her invitation to join her in Robert Pattinson's absence) as she accepted Best Kiss quickly became a breakout image from the telecast moments after it happened. It was the fourth time a "Twilight" movie took home that category, as well as the fourth consecutive time "Twilight" earned the top prize: Movie of the Year.
Of course, "The Hunger Games" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" weren't the only movies nominated at the big show. Best Cast went to another huge franchise and a certain female led comedy which may have featured a scene where someone poops in a sink won some awards, too!
