Whether there's a cause or not, rebels have always held a special place in movie history. Dating almost as far back as cinema itself, the great rebels of movies past are still to this day some of the most memorable characters ever created.

And speaking of rebels, we've announced that the one and only Rebel Wilson will be the star of the MTV Movie Awards on April 14, 2013! The Australian comedian has been taking the nation by storm as of late, with featured roles in hit movies such as "Bridesmaids," "Bachelorette," and most recently as Fat Amy in this year's "Pitch Perfect."

Movie Awards

This year's summer movie season began in the first week of May with "Marvel's The Avengers." Now, last time we checked, the actual season isn't scheduled to start until a few weeks in the June, typically near the annual MTV Movie Awards. But if summer movie season is continually shift up, maybe it's time the MTV Movie Awards did as well.

For the 2013 edition of the award show that lets you honor your favorite movies, you won't have to wait as long. The MTV Movie Awards will take place on April 14, 2013.

This positions the Movie Awards as the perfect kick-off to summer movie season and could potentially shake up the competition for the major categories. You'll have to stick with MTV News to see how it all plays out.

During the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, we got our glimpse of the first official look at "Star Trek 2." We just weren't quite sure what we were looking at.

Fortunately the folks over at HitFix found out for us. They were able to confirm, thanks to their sources at the studio, that we are indeed looking at a Klingon in the image shown in the video below.

When the final figures for "Snow White and the Huntsman" and its weekend box office came in, there was almost an audible sigh of relief around Hollywood. The fantasy epic, which came in well above the studio's low expectations, out performed and avoided becoming the next in a growing line of tentpole flops this summer.

When MTV News' Josh Horowitz caught up with Snow White and her Huntsman, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, at the MTV Movie Awards, the stars shared their feelings about the results and what the success really means to them.

Hemsworth, no stranger to box office triumphs after "The Avengers," told MTV News that he was more relieved that the fans had been responding positively to the film. "Yeah, it's always a relief, isn't it? The biggest thing, as you say, is that people love the movie," he said. "Fans are ecstatic about it and think it's fantastic. That's the biggest pad on the back. That's the biggest reward."

Russell Brand certainly knew his audience at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Who can forget the way he would randomly shout, "Twilight! Hunger Games!" during his monologue at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday (June 3)?

Considering the massive fan bases for the soon-to-draw-to-a-close "Twilight Saga" and the still-three-movies-to-come "Hunger Games" behemoth, it wasn't hard to predict that both series would leave Universal City, California with at least a few Golden Popcorn statues.

"The Hunger Games" collected four of them, in fact, including Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Fight and Best On-Screen Transformation. Kristen Stewart making out with herself (after Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner declined her invitation to join her in Robert Pattinson's absence) as she accepted Best Kiss quickly became a breakout image from the telecast moments after it happened. It was the fourth time a "Twilight" movie took home that category, as well as the fourth consecutive time "Twilight" earned the top prize: Movie of the Year.

Of course, "The Hunger Games" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" weren't the only movies nominated at the big show. Best Cast went to another huge franchise and a certain female led comedy which may have featured a scene where someone poops in a sink won some awards, too!

Movie of the Year
"The Hunger Games"
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
"The Help"
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1"

Best Male Performance
Daniel Radcliffe, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Ryan Gosling, "Drive"
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "50/50"
Josh Hutcherson, "The Hunger Games"
Channing Tatum, "The Vow"

Best Female Performance
Jennifer Lawrence, "The Hunger Games"
Kristin Wiig, "Bridesmaids"
Emma Stone, "Crazy, Stupid, Love"
Emma Watson, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Rooney Mara, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"

Dear friend, if you happened to miss the world premiere of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer, not to worry! Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller were on hand at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show to present the clip and we have your first look right here.

The film is an adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age novel, which follows Charlie (Logan), a shy freshman, as he navigates high school and comes out of his shell with the help of Sam (Emma) and Patrick (Ezra). All the key elements are there: Charlie as a outsider, attending his first party, catching his new friends in their version of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and, yes, being infinite. Check out the trailer and see for yourself! "Perks" hits theaters September 14.
