FROM MTV.COM: Conventional wisdom says that if you want to watch a great artistic achievement, you look to accomplished filmmakers. If you just want to have a good time and eat some popcorn, you choose something loud, gory and unapologetically exploitative. But somewhere in the middle are the "Piranha" films — and when we recently visited the set of the franchise reboot, we found a unique mix of blood, babes and bona-fide actors.

"The movie is going to be insane, because as much blood as it has, it has the equal amount of boobies," grinned Paul Scheer, the "Human Giant" funnyman who stars in "Piranha 3-D" alongside a huge cast that includes Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss (in a nod to his "Jaws" role), Christopher Lloyd, Eli Roth and Ving Rhames. "It's boobies and blood. And we supply the boobies!"

As you all learned earlier today, "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens is very excited about her role in the upcoming Zack Snyder project, "Sucker Punch." Speaking with MTV's Matt Harper on the set of "Beastly," the singer gushed her affection for the "300" director's work, and her joy at being able to break away from her youth-oriented roots.

"Sucker Punch" tells the story of a wrongfully institutionalized young woman (Amanda Seyfried, at last report) who retreats into a fantasy world of her own creation as a coping mechanism. Hudgens will play Blondie, one of Seyfried's fellow inmates. Well here... why don't you see for yourself:

Don't go! There's more! Hudgens also had a bit to say on her audition for the role and how she landed the part-- but almost didn't. It's good stuff, so keep on reading after the jump. Read More...

Vanessa HudgensLast week, MTV's Matt Harper paid a visit to the set of "Beastly," opening July 2010, where he got a chance to sit down and chat with "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens. She happily discussed a range of topics, including her recent decision to pull back from the music a bit so she can focus on her acting. I can't say I blame her, given the upcoming gig she's got with "300" director Zack Snyder: "Sucker Punch."

"I'm extremely excited," Hudgens said. "When I read about the project I was like, ‘that’d be great, but its not going to happen’…and now it actually is!" The big draw for Hudgens is really the director himself. "It's an honor, I'm such a big fan of his work." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: When Robert Pattinson was grazed by a moving taxicab recently, the news rocked legions of "Twilight" fans who feared for their favorite actor's life. His series co-star Michael Welch, however, was surprised to hear the news when he sat down with MTV News on Tuesday.

"No," marveled the actor, who plays Mike Newton in the films. "You are how I stay in touch with this stuff."

Once we briefed Mike on the recent near-tragedy, the affable actor expressed concern for RPattz's health — and a hope that the star's skyrocketing fame crests soon.

The Hangoverby Gabriel Lipson

After inflicting a hurricane of damage throughout Las Vegas, "The Hangover"'s inebriated foursome somehow fled the city without any major legal repercussions. Sure they'd owe reparations to Caesar's Palace, but cleverly placed plot devices and bureaucratic loopholes allowed the men to skirt the law.

Imagine now for just a moment that the Nevada legal system worked as it should have. If the law had won, how much would Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) have lost? Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Both began their careers in the mid-'80s with instant classics ("Empire of the Sun," "A Nightmare on Elm Street"), matured as actors with critically acclaimed roles in the '90s ("Ed Wood," "American Psycho") and broke through with iconic characters in recent years (the "Pirates" and "Batman" films). Both possess the rare quality of making women want them and men want to be like them — and the even rarer skill of being indie-minded actors who lose no credibility when they delve into blockbuster territory.

And on Tuesday evening, the remarkably similar career trajectories of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale converged on a red carpet full of gals, guns and gangsters at the premiere of "Public Enemies."

Among other things, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" addresses gender roles as they relate to robotic alien societies. The Autobot character Arcee is hardly a new addition to the "Transformers" universe, but I'm curious to see how director Michael Bay treats her for this week's guaranteed summer hit.

I'm sure what you really want to know is what "Revenge of the Fallen" star Megan Fox thinks of the new female addition to the cast. MTV's Larry Carroll sure did. Fox maintains a carefully neutral tone in her response, which is probably for the best. Check it out in the clip below, then head over to MTV.com for a full look at our MTV Rough Cut: Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox.

M. Night ShyamalanFROM SPLASH PAGE: On the surface, it might look like M. Night Shyamalan has moved on from “Unbreakable,” the director’s fourth feature film. After all, he’s already hip-deep in production on “The Last Airbender,” his adaptation of the popular animated series — does he really have enough room in his geek bone to revisit the moody superhero film?

During a recent press event, Shyamalan addressed that very question as put forth by MTV News — is he still considering “Unbreakable 2″? According to the director, that answer is a resounding yes.

Judd ApatowIn Hollywood these days, few names are as desired on the movie marquee as that of Judd Apatow -- the 800-pound-gorilla of all that is funny. Now he’s ready to unveil his third directorial effort after “The 40 Year Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up” –- two comedies that caused more pants-peeing than the Big Gulp at 7-11. Apatow's July 31st release, conveniently (and seemingly autobiographically) titled “Funny People,” is looked to with anticipation by the same loyal fans who have been won over by his family-and-fart-jokes formula.

“We all collaborate from the inception,” Apatow explained of his key to comedy success in the Adam Sandler film and beyond. “As soon as I start writing, I call the actors and talk about what I’m doing, and then we rehearse and improvise.” Read More...

Shia LaBeouf likes music. One song in particular really seems to move him: Stan Bush's "The Touch." Some of you might know it from "Transformers: The Movie" (1986). Others may recognize it as a recent downloadable release for the "Guitar Hero" video game. Everyone remembers Mark Wahlberg's terrible rendition of it in "Boogie Nights." And if you don't, you should correct that.

Now we have a new version to... errr... well, not necessarily enjoy so much as chuckle at. Wincing is an acceptable response as well. Because hearing the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" star sing it for MTV is equal parts hilarious and painful. Even he knows it. Sorry, Shia... you still kick ass. Just don't sing in public anymore. Ever.
