Harry PotterWelcome to MTV's Harry Potter World Cup! We've selected 64 of the best "Harry Potter" characters and matched them up in a series of duels for a chance at magical glory, but it's up to YOU to decide who the greatest "Potter" character of all time is in this pool of wizards and witches. Will the Death Eaters destroy Hogwarts, or will good triumph over evil? In the end, the choice is yours, so keep voting at MTV Movies Blog and make your voice heard!

We're halfway through the second round of the Harry Potter World Cup, and we've already seen several ugly duels between old foes and dear friends. Today's no different as we launch back into the Hogsmeade division with Harry's best friend, Ron Weasley, going up against Harry's Quidditch mentor, Oliver Wood. Another duel that's far from easy to decide, but as always, the ultimate choice is in your hands.

Voting for all second round match-ups will close on Friday, July 1 at 12:01 AM EST, so make sure to start voting now. You can follow all of the duels right here.

(1) Ron Weasley vs. (8) Oliver Wood
For the casual "Potter" fan, this duel seems to be a no-brainer: Ron, after all, is Harry's very best friend, his truest ally through thick and through thin. How could he lose against a relatively low-level name like Oliver Wood? Well, let's just say that several "Potter" fans think that Oliver, the onetime captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team at Hogwarts, is a babe. That's a bit of an understatement. Will Oliver's good looks win out over Ron's loyalty to Harry? There's only one way to find out — by voting!

Round two voting in the Harry Potter World Cup continues into Tuesday (June 28), kicking off the second round match-ups of the Godric's Hollow division. Today's first duel is one that won't be easy on voters, I'm sure: Hermione Granger, the smartest witch of her age, versus Fawkes, Professor Albus Dumbledore's precious phoenix. Good luck with the voting, muggles — I'm glad I'm not the one making this call.

(1) Hermione vs. (9) Fawkes
Though Fawkes was able to defeat the goodhearted ghost Nearly Headless Nick in the first round, all the lives in the world won't matter when stacked up against Hermione. As one of the "Harry Potter" story's most important characters — and, without a doubt, the most important female character — the odds are certainly in the witch's favor. Then again… it's Fawkes! We love Fawkes! The question is, which one do we love more?

The second round of the Harry Potter World Cup is currently underway, and it's kicking off with the Privet Drive division. After eliminating his "Sorcerer's Stone" nemesis Professor Quirrell in the first round, Harry Potter is looking to do equal amounts of damage to "Chamber of Secrets" villain Lucius Malfoy. But does the Death Eater have some tricks up his sleeve?

Voting for all second round match-ups will close on Friday, July 1 at 12:01 AM EST, so make sure to start voting now. You can follow all of the duels right here.

(1) Harry Potter vs. (8) Lucius Malfoy
Harry had no trouble putting an end to Professor Quirrell's chances at resurrection and World Cup glory, but will the road be as easy when facing Lucius Malfoy? As the father of his number one Hogwarts rival and one of Voldemort's closest allies, Lucius has certainly earned his dangerous reputation. If the Slytherin-loving "Potter" fans come out in full force to support the Death Eater, then perhaps this is the place where the platinum blonde wizard will claim Harry's head for his Dark Lord's wall.

Harry Potter World CupThe first round of the Harry Potter World Cup has drawn to a close, narrowing the playing field down from the original 64 wizards and witches to a smaller pool of 32 heroes and villains. For the most part, the people you expected to move on have moved on — with some notable exceptions, of course — and as we step forward into Round 2 today, I think you'll find that there are some very, very difficult decisions on the horizon.

But before we look forward, let's look back at what happened in the first round. Get the highlights from Round 1 of the Harry Potter World Cup after the jump!

All of the voting for the first round of Harry Potter World Cup is now open, so it's up to you to vote and decide which of your favorite characters will advance to the next round. Voting ends at 12:01 AM EST on Monday (June 27), so there's no time to waste. Will we see early favorites like Harry, Hermione and Ron advance to their next duels as expected, or is there room for an underdog — say, the surprising push-back that Narcissa Malfoy is giving to Luna Lovegood, or the epic battle between old rivals Viktor Krum and Fleur Delacour, for example — to apparate their way into round two? We'll find out once voting closes, won't we? You can view all the match-ups below, or you can go here to see all of the polls individually.

Do you smell that? Smells like... villainy! That's because it's Day Four of the Harry Potter World Cup and duels are now underway in Diagon Alley, the division that hosts some of the tournament's most wicked witches and sadistic sorcerers.

The day kicks off with the number one seed, Draco Malfoy, a villain so notorious that he's been honored with the Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards for two years straight. One might assume that he'll easily cut through his first round opponent, but the road ahead could be tougher than both he and you imagine. At the same time, a duel between two old rivals rounds out today's first set of polls, which close at midnight on Sunday (June 27).

(1) Draco Malfoy vs. (16) Peeves the Poltergeist
He's been Harry Potter's numero uno rival (in the same peer group, at least) since they both arrived at Hogwarts oh so many years ago. Since then, the tension between Draco and Harry has only thickened — which is exactly why the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy is so eager to beat the snot out of Peeves: so he can advance far enough to squash the Boy Who Lived all on his own. Can Peeves, a poltergeist who never appeared in the "Potter" films despite his popularity amongst the book-reading crowd, stand a chance against Malfoy's malice? Or will Draco's signature arrogance cost him the big game before he's barely even started?

(8) Viktor Krum vs. (9) Fleur Delacour
Though they lost the Triwizard Tournament years ago, they're both getting another shot at a different cup today. But only one of these two "Goblet of Fire" veterans can move on to the next round. Will it be Bulgarian wizard Viktor Krum, the Quidditch World Cup favorite and pride of Durmstrang? Or will Fleur Delacour, the swoon-worthy Beauxbatons babe and eventual Weasley-in-law, win the day? More so than many of the other first round match-ups, the outcome of this battle between Viktor and Fleur is truly up in the air.

Welcome to day three of the Harry Potter World Cup! The wizards and witches from the Privet Drive and Godric's Hollow divisions have all embarked upon their first round match-ups, and now it's time to turn your attention towards the wonderful world of Hogsmeade — well, perhaps not so wonderful for our first-seed competitor.

Despite the fact that he's a fan-favorite and an early pick to go deep, Ron Weasley's first duel against the dangerously obsessed Lavender Brown has the red-headed wizard rightfully quaking in his boots. Simultaneously, an old friend and an old foe from Ron's past is doing his best to stay alive. It's certainly an interesting way to kick off the Hogsmeade division, with voting closing at midnight on Sunday (June 27).

(1) Ron Weasley vs. (16) Lavender Brown
We all know that Ron's heart belongs to the lovely Hermione Granger, but he made the fateful mistake of pursuing an earlier romance with fellow Gryffindor Lavender Brown during "Half-Blood Prince." Though he ultimately broke away from her clutches, Lavender's scorn towards Ron remains sharp as ever. If she can channel her lovesick lunacy with every ounce of her magical might, then Ron could very well go down swinging in the first.

(8) Oliver Wood vs. (9) Peter Pettigrew
In a fair fight, Gryffindor's immensely popular Quidditch champion would have no problem flying circles around Voldemort's right hand stooge. But since when have you ever known Wormtail to play fair? Oliver Wood undoubtedly has the fan support, but don't discount Pettigrew's penchant for deception — underestimating this rat is what got the Potters killed in the first place, after all.

The second day of the Harry Potter World Cup opens not with a whimper, but with a witch — the brightest witch of her age, to be exact!

As we turn out attention away from Privet Drive and towards the Godric's Hollow division, all eyes are on Hermione Granger, one of Harry's truest and most fiercely loyal friends. And while she has a doozy of a duel in front of her, don't let Hermione have all of the fun; there's another truly bizarre match-up lurking just around the corner. It should be interesting to see how that one shakes out when voting closes at midnight on Sunday (June 27)…

(1) Hermione Granger vs. (16) Rita Skeeter
One of them is the brightest witch of her age, a young woman who's faced time-traveling survival scenarios, venomous basilisks and club-carrying trolls and lived to tell the tales thanks to her quick thinking and her brave spirit. The other is, well, pretty much just a troll. There's no love lost between Hermione and Rita Skeeter thanks to the "journalist's" work in "Goblet of Fire," so sparks are destined to fly as these two collide in their first round match-up.

(8) Nearly Headless Nick vs. (9) Fawkes
When it comes to this duel, it's okay to cry — really, it is. Nobody wants to see Nearly Headless Nick or Fawkes the phoenix die out in the first round of Harry Potter World Cup. But Hogwarts' most chivalrous ghost and Professor Dumbledore's cherished companion must respectfully enter the battlefield against one another, with the choice ultimately resting in your hands — which of these two surreal entities holds the fondest place in your heart, and which one can pull ahead in this reluctant battle?

You've spent more than a decade obsessing over the "Harry Potter" franchise. You've spent all that time dwelling on the most spectacular spell-casters that J.K. Rowling's expansive universe has to offer. And now, the time has come to determine which of these heroes and villains stands above the pack to claim the title of greatest "Harry Potter" character of all time!

That's right, muggles and magicians alike: the Harry Potter World Cup has finally opened! The first day of voting begins with the launch of the Privet Drive division, offering up at least one clear favorite (you know, the guy we named the tournament after), one of his fiercest rivals and plenty of other worthy contenders. The duels begin now, with the first round closing at midnight on Sunday night (June 27) — so start voting now!

(1) Harry Potter vs. (16) Professor Quirrell
On paper, the tournament's first match-up is a no-brainer. Not only is the Boy Who Lived the protagonist of the "Harry Potter" series and the character that the franchise (and our tournament) is named after, he also already defeated this rival in "The Sorcerer's Stone." But if Professor Quirrell can tap into his inner-Voldemort and muster enough strength and cunning, he could very well earn his vengeance at an impressively early stage.

(8) Lucius Malfoy vs. (9) Gilderoy Lockhart
Both characters made their debut in the "Chamber of Secrets," but only one can advance to the next round. And don't expect this to be a clean fight, either — as one of Lord Voldemort's closest allies, Lucius is apt to break out the killing curse without batting an eyelash. Lockhart, on the other hand, is no stranger to trickery and misdirection; can he keep Lucius distracted enough to move onto the next round?

The Harry Potter World Cup is almost upon us. Voting begins on Monday (June 20), which means you better have a working knowledge of the month-long tournament's bracket by then — or else your favorite character might get knocked out of the wizarding duel straight away!

If you aren't up to speed on the bracket yet, no sweat: the Weasley twins are here to help. "Harry Potter" stars James and Oliver Phelps were kind enough to not only announce the launch of Harry Potter World Cup, but also take a few minutes to analyze the first round of match-ups. Watch their bracket in the video below!

We'll have several other "Potter" experts weighing in on the tournament in the coming days and weeks. I've got some thoughts on the matter myself — check out what I think of the bracket past the jump!
