Sony video game "Shadow of the Colossus" is being developed into a feature, with "Chronicle" director Josh Trank signed on to the project — he also happens to be a big fan of the game.

When a young man believes his lover to be dead, he heads to a "forbidden land" to summon a demon that can wake her. In order to bring the woman back to life, however, he needs to slay 16 colossi. They're massive, "skyscraper-sized giants" that rise from the ground, fly through the air, and dwell in the water. Soon, the man questions his pursuit and wonders if he's made a deal with the devil.

Let us know if you're a fan of the video game and if you believe Trank can do the adaptation justice. In the meantime, keep on reading for more Horror Bites!

It's been a long time since filmmaker Eli Roth's last directorial effort, but the hiatus is officially over — and judging by the title alone, the results are bound to be explosive.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news out of Cannes that Roth's next slated to direct "The Green Inferno," a horror thriller about... well, we don't know, actually. The story is being kept a secret for now, but Roth's certainly enthusiastic about his top-secret plans.

"I've had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director's chair. I've been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in [Chile] and cannot wait to get back," he said in a statement, referring to his recent experience shooting the movie "Aftershock" in South America.

World's End

Just last month, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg finished writing the third installment in their "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy, which includes hits "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." Fans weren't sure when they'd see "The World's End" complete the genre tale connected by Cornetto ice cream flavors with Wright's "Scott Pilgrim" sidestepping things and Pegg's occupation with the "Star Trek" films.

Deadline delivered news last night, however, that the film is set for a spring 2013 release date. The duo makes their return with frequent collaborator Nick Frost, "20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl," with a September shoot date.

“ … One of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End,” the website shared. “As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”

The lead love interest for Richard LaGravenese's "Beautiful Creatures" — an adaptation of the young adult supernatural romance novel (also a series) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl — has been replaced. Jack O'Connell has left the project due to scheduling conflicts, and Alden Ehrenreich is stepping in.

The "Twixt" and "Tetro" actor will be starring as Ethan — in love with local girl Lena. Both teens uncover dark secrets about their families and the town they live in. Ethan also happens to have a nasty ex-girlfriend, who enacts some "Mean Girls-style" revenge against Lena. We previously reported that Jeremy Irons is also starring in the film, along with Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Thomas Mann, and Emmy Rossum. Are you in the mood for a supernatural star-crossed lovers story, or have you had your fill of all things "Twilight-esque" for a while?

The studio that brought us classic monster movies during the 1930s to the late 1940s has been resurrecting their fearless creatures for remakes like 2010's "The Wolfman" starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. Now, Variety brings news that the studio wants to reboot their "Mummy" franchise (again!), and they've hired "Prometheus" writer Jon Spaihts to pen the feature.

You probably remember the 1990's take on "The Mummy" starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. "The Scorpion King" was the 2002 spin-off starring then action newb Dwayne Johnson, which saw equal success. Fraser made his way back to the story in 2008's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," which raked in $401 million worldwide. Judging by the numbers, the studio feels there is still life left in the ancient corpse. So where does scribe Spaihts want to take things? "I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with 'Prometheus': to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before." We're already fans. What about you?

Deranged director Tom Six has big plans for a "Human Centipede 3" film. We're not lying when we say it's huge.

The controversial filmmaker recently took to Twitter (via Dread Central) and told followers he wants to feature a 500 plus person pede in the third gruesome installment of his detestable franchise. He'll start filming the movie this summer down south, aiming for a 2013 release. The third "Human Centipede" will feature stars Dieter Laser (the crazed surgeon from the first film) and Laurence R. Harvey (the insane parking lot attendant from the second movie), and even the director himself in a bit role. Like always, Six promises that the film will be "100 percent politically incorrect."

Has the director gone too far this time? Do you think he'll attempt to make his monstrous creation with live actors or end up using CG? Try to erase the image from your mind entirely, and head past the break for more horror news!

"My Bloody Valentine" and "Drive Angry 3D" collaborators Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer wrote the script for "Halloween 3D," which was slated for this fall, except Dimension Films' Michael Myers tale has been killed off for now.

The 3D entry in the popular slasher franchise has been bumped from the box office schedule with no news of a future release date. The story picked up after Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" film and centered on Laurie Strode in a mental hospital. Supposedly there was a lead part for "Creepshow" actor Tom Atkins.

Michael might be stopped for now, but there's more terror waiting for you past the break in this week's Horror Bites.

After more than a year of rumors and rumblings from Bill Murray about "Ghostbusters 3," it's finally official: the actor will not be starring in a new installment of the supernatural comedy classic. Co-star — and co-writer on the first two films — Dan Aykroyd kept us hopeful and on the hook for what felt like ages, but Dr. Raymond Stantz has finally admitted that Murray will not make the movie.

While in London to promote his vodka brand Crystal Head, Aykroyd told The Telegraph that although there's interest from the studio to pursue part three, "it’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie." He went on to say that the project at this point is in "suspended animation," and cited Murray's preference for a quiet life of family and golf as part of the reason for not committing.

Rumors surrounding the project have varied from the bizarre — with chatter about Murray shredding the new script and mailing it back to co-star and co-writer Harold Ramis — to the unlikely. For a spell there was talk about a female version of "Ghostbusters," with "Dollhouse's" Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano donning the power packs. There was even a rumor about Murray returning to the franchise as a ghost. "We’re not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise," Aykroyd confirmed. This is exactly why we hope he pours one out for part three and gracefully lets it go.

Let us know if you agree that a new "Ghostbusters" shouldn't proceed without Murray (or possibly at all). Then, head past the break for a look at more of this week's horror news.

Johnny Depp

It looks like Johnny Depp and Edgar Wright may be teaming up to hunt the supernatural in Disney's adaptation of two 1970's telepics and the ABC series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker."

Deadline reports that Depp would potentially star as Carl Kolchak in "The Night Stalker." He's a hardboiled reporter who tackles stories that law enforcement doesn't want to touch. Most of the cases in the original tales involved monstrous creatures like vampires and zombies, but Kolchak also explored the dark world of witches and other occult mysteries. With the "Shaun of the Dead" director usually having a hand in the writing side of his projects, it'd be great to see Disney hand this responsibility over to Wright. No scribe has been named yet, though. The quirky stylings of the director and Depp should be fascinating to watch.

While we anticipate more news about this inspired collaboration, head past the break for a look at the rest of this week's horror news.
