Judd Apatowby Judd Apatow

As arguably the biggest comedy director working in Hollywood today, Judd Apatow is a funny guy and almost as importantly, he’s been a longtime friend to the MTV Movies Blog, acting as one of our first guest contributors way back when “Knocked Up” was coming out. Well, the big guy is back. Apatow’s next project, of course, is “Funny People.” And lucky for us Judd’s re-joining the MTV Movies Blog gang with a series of exclusive columns hitting every single Thursday between now and the film’s release. So without further ado, here’s Judd…

How to Make A Fake Movie

"Funny People" is the story of a famous comedian having a life crisis. Basically, George Simmons finds out he is ill and then wonders what the hell he did with his life. Was it all worth it? In order to make this character feel real we had to create the story of his career. In order to do this we combined real clips from Adam [Sandler]’s early stand-up days, some very old home videos of him and a bunch of fake movie clips which we created. Read More...

Captain EOHere are a few words on Michael Jackson from Diane Fredel-Weis, a Los Angeles-based writer. Diane worked on the marketing for Jackson's "Captain EO," a 3-D sci-fi short featured as an attraction at Disney theme parks. The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas and starred Jackson alongside Anjelica Huston and Dick Shawn. Diane, who met the late pop star while working on "EO," was kind enough to detail some of her experiences for MTV readers.

by Diane Fredel-Weis

When I walked onto the Culver City soundstage of "Captain EO" in early 1986, it was a thrill on many levels. The sets were mind-blowing. Dark, complex, coiled metal environments. Actors walking around in alien costumes. Dozens of people busy with the production. And of course, the star of the film, Michael Jackson, was there. Read More...

Darren Lynn BousmanFROM HEADBANGER'S BLOG:What could Paris Hilton possibly have in common with Filter’s frontman Richard Patrick, Slipknot percussionist Clown and Ozzy Osbourne bassist Blasko — besides a taste for Paris’ homemade porn, that is? They’ve all contributed to the wacko horror film songfest “Repo! The Genetic Opera,” the soundtrack of which comes out September 30. The opera also features Broadway star Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino, “House of 1000 Corpses” actor Bill Mosely, ex-From First to Last singer Sonny Moore, Skinny Puppy screamer Nivek Ogre and more.

Now our demented breathren over at Headbanger's Blog have a brand-new guest blog from director Darren Lynn Bousman in which he reveals his music-laden fantasies, along with offering up eight songs from the offbeat production, which is best described as a cross between “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Blade Runner.” Click here to read more on the Headbanger's Blog...

Our guest blogger Laura Culpepper was selected to help us cover the Movie Awards and all its preshow events (and giving her some surprises as well). She was a great addition to the team, and with the 2008 show concluded, we asked her to reflect on her last day and what the experience meant.

Well, it's all over now. This afternoon I will be flying back to Alabama to resume my very uneventful life until the fall. It will be a bit strange not seeing celebrities everyday or hanging out with everybody here at MTV News, but all good things must come to an end.

Will Smith, Jaden Smith and The Rock

I started the day yesterday pretty early to once again stand-in on some rehearsals for the preshow. After that it was a bit of a "hurry up and wait" situation, but once the stars started walking it went by extremely fast. Read More...

Our guest blogger Laura Culpepper will be covering the highlights from now through the big show on Sunday, so check in daily as she live-blogs her Movie Awards experience!

Hey everyone! Yesterday was crazy, but I've rested up now and I'm getting ready for the big awards tomorrow. There were two screenings yesterday: "Kung Fu Panda" starring Jack Black and "Pineapple Express" starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

First stop was to Paramount for the "Kung Fu Panda" screening. I'm usually not a big fan of animation, but this one was surprisingly good! There were some pretty awesome action scenes, and Jack Black did a great job of giving Po, the main character, a voice. The Q&A after was great, and we even got to see Jack show off some Kung Fu moves of his own.

MTV News' Kim Stolz also interviewed Jack, dressed in a Panda costume, no less. Read More...

Hey everyone! I touched down in L.A. earlier today, and I've been pretty much on the go ever since! Today has been crazy, but so much fun. I've never visited L.A. before, so it's been amazing to just ride around and see some of the famous sights the city holds such as Sunset Strip, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, etcetera. I also had my first celebrity "encounter": "7th Heaven" castmember Tyler Hoechlin passed by us in his car.

After a little cruising around it was time to head to the Arclight Theatre for the MTV Sneak Peek Week screening of "Get Smart," starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. Read More...

David SchwimmerYes, THAT David Schwimmer. The ex-"Friend" and current "Run, Fat Boy, Run" helmer has partnered with the MTV Movies Blog to answer questions from our readers about his latest theatrical project. See below for the last installment and click here to read the first round of answers from the man behind the "large" comedy that stars Simon Pegg of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." You can catch the film in theaters this Friday (watch the trailer here).

ANNA K Asks:
If you could choose anyone to direct (living or dead), who would you pick and why?

DAVID Says:
Wow. That's a hell of a question...I think living, I'd love to work with Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman. As for those who've passed, the first guys I think of are Jack Lemmon, Peter Sellers, Gregory Peck and Cary Grant. I think the why is obvious, no? Read More...

SARA Asks:
I love Simon Pegg so I'm excited to see him in the lead for this. How did you think of him? Did you ever consider acting in it yourself?

DAVID Says:
I love Simon, too. He's brilliant. We worked together in a few things and have been friends for a while, so he was my first choice. And no, I really didn't think about acting in it -- I just wanted to focus all my energy on one thing: directing. Read More...
