TerminatorThe biggest news to come out of Cannes today concerns our future: specifically, the post apocalyptic "Terminator" series is going indie.

Or, at least it's been purchased by "indie savior" Megan Ellison, who Deadline is estimating spent around $20 million to acquire the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. Considering that Ellison's Annapruna Films is behind Kathryn Bigelow's "Kill Bin Laden" and Paul T. Anderson's next picture, her involvement is nothing but good news for the developing "Terminator" sequel.

In the news after the jump, "Dark Shadows" gets a release date, a major star stays on board for "Rock of Ages" and the first shot of Bruce Willis in Rian Johnson's "Looper" hits the web.

Some days, all you really need is a picture of Gandalf the Grey chillaxing with sunglasses on.

Today is one such day. Coming Soon scored this awesome photo of Ian McKellen reprising his iconic role on the set of "The Hobbit," though the wizardry on display here is of a different variety than most of us are used to.

Fact: giant robots smashing each other to pieces is awesome in any language.

Proof: a brand new trailer for "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" has arrived, except this time, it's not in English. Check out Optimus Prime's slick French accent as he lays the law down with Shia LaBeouf and Frances McDormand, both actors falling in line with the Autobot leader's new dialect. Not a lot of new scenes to pour over here, unfortunately, but, hey… "Transformers" kicking ass in French. It sells itself.

Fast Five"Fast Five" is a lot of things: it's fast, it's furious and it's… Oscar worthy?

Vin Diesel certainly seems to think so, at least. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the "Fast Five" star said he "wouldn't be surprised if there is some Oscar talk around" the latest "Furious" film. "Sooner or later, people are gonna say, 'Wait a minute, just because they are for the working class doesn't mean they're not great.'" That's Vin's take, but what do you think? Is "Fast Five" deserving of an Oscar, or is it just a straight-up crowd pleaser?

Despite rumors to the contrary, "Hanna" star Saoirse Ronan is not headed to Middle-Earth.

"It's probably not going to work out with 'The Hobbit,' unfortunately," Ronan told the Belfast Telegraph in a recent interview. "I would have been working for about a year on it and there were other projects that I was very interested in, but Pete and [his producer wife] Fran have been very good about it and very understanding."

Bummer to hear it, but we'll get our Saoirse fix soon enough when she gets in front of the camera for "The Host." In the meantime, let's focus on some happier Hollywood news. Past the jump, get the lowdown on Matt Damon's possible directorial debut and much more!

Saoirse RonanIf one person's going to represent the dwindling human race in the face of an alien invasion, we could do far worse than "Hanna."

Our friends at Hollywood Crush report that Saoirse Ronan, who took on the title role in this year's awesome action flick "Hanna," is set to star in "The Host," based on a novel from "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer. Ronan would play Melanie Ryder, one of the last survivors of the invading Souls, an alien species that can possess human bodies. Melanie comes under the possession of Wanderer, but the strong-willed teenager refuses to surrender her consciousness and the two form a bond in the process.

There's plenty more news out there today beyond Ronan's latest role. After the jump, we've got an update on "Kill Bin Laden" and a follow-up to our report on Christoph Waltz's status in Quentin Tarantino's new movie.
