Man of Steel

FROM NEXTMOVIE: I've got a box of Clif Bars, a toothbrush and some unread issues of the "New 52." I'm ready for the lines, odors and sunstroke of San Diego Comic-Con. There are dozens of movies (and shows and comics and web series) that'll be pitched at SDCC. Here are the ten I'm most excited about.

Man of Steel
I know a guy who's seen little snips of "Man of Steel" - some of the Krypton stuff. He tells me that if you didn't know it was Superman, you wouldn't know what it was just by looking at it. That, to me, is very exciting. Zack Snyder under the close supervision of Christopher Nolan sounds like a nice working combination. There's simply no excuse for DC's inability to catch up with Marvel for a crossover movie universe. Hopefully that all ends this Comic-Con.

Frankenweenie
The short film that got Tim Burton fired from Disney is now back as an IMAX 3D extravaganza... from Disney. I can't think of a better middle finger to the Man in recent history. Burton's recent output has been suspect, but his knack for design is still sharp and the story of a kid resurrecting his dead dog is timeless. We should know soon if this is the next "Nightmare Before Christmas."

RoboCop

In the few days leading up to Comic-Con, viral campaigns for featured movies have become more and more common in recent years. This year, the "RoboCop" reboot got a jump on the competition over the weekend by releasing an ad for Omnicorp and its new product line.

For those unfamiliar with the mythos of RoboCop, Omnicorp is the evil corporation that creates the titular cyborg but hopes to exploit him for financial gain.

The recently released viral video contains a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at the character design for the newest version of RoboCop, as played by "The Killing"'s Joel Kinnaman.

Check out the video after the jump!

Hobbit

The Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con is set to feature some of this year's and next year's most anticipated films. Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" and Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" are just two of the films included in the presentation, but the movies will actually share more than the stage in common.

You may recall that del Toro was once set to direct the Jackson-produced, two-part prequel to "The Lord of the Rings," but after dropping out of the project, he will now present the film that replaced "The Hobbit" on his schedule.

In the lead-up to the presentation, the two Warner Bros. films each released posters for the event, with the "Pacific Rim" sheet showing off the enormous, robotic Jaegers for the first time.

Game of Thrones

Comic-Con 2012 is rapidly approaching, and you know what that means: wish lists! Everyone on the MTV Movies team is pumped for a whole host of panels and events this year, but if I'm being honest, it's not the big screen that has me most excited. I'm keeping my eye firmly on the television panels, where "Fringe" will have its last-ever Comic-Con presence; "Game of Thrones" will tease us for season three in all of its gut-wrenching glory; and, if we're all good little boys and girls, we'll get a taste of the sweet blue stuff that is "Breaking Bad." (If that panel shows even an iota of the season five premiere's cold open, I guarantee that people will go up in smoke quicker than Tuco Salamanca's drug den.)

But that's just what I'm looking forward to at Comic-Con this year. Keep reading to find out what all of our friends in the blogosphere can't wait for!

Pacific Rim

Thank you Entertainment Weekly for getting us even more hyped for Comic-Con than we already were. In addition to the awesome "The Hobbit" images we saw earlier, this week's issue of the magazine also includes a new look at Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film "Pacific Rim."

The first image from the movie introduced us to Idris Elba's character, and now we get to meet those played by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. Shock Till You Drop uploaded a scan of the image, which shows the two actors getting ready to start up their obsolete robot, Jaeger.

Hobbit

In the lead-up to their big San Diego Comic-Con panel, Gandalf, Frodo, and the gang are gracing the pages and cover of the newest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Warner Bros. is expected to bring "The Hobbit" out to San Diego next week in a very big way, so expect to see a lot more from Peter Jackson and the inhabitants of Middle Earth very, very soon.

You can check out the new photos from "The Hobbit" after the jump!

Comic-Con

Can you feel that anxious, caffeine-fueled, slightly sweaty energy in the air? It can only mean one thing: we're just about a month away from one of the biggest entertainment events of the year, San Diego Comic-Con.

As we inch closer and closer to the blissful July 12 start date (preview night being July 11), the official lineup of panels and guests is filling out quite nicely. According to Variety, this year's convention will be as action-packed as ever, despite the fact that several major studios will not yet confirm concrete plans.

Here's a rundown of the films that will most certainly make an appearance, as well as a few we think should.
