Quvenzhane Wallis

Will Gluck's upcoming "Annie" remake has found its leading lady in the form of "Beasts of the Southern Wild" star Quvenzhane Wallis. The same weekend she made her appearance as the youngest ever Best Actress Oscar nominee, she was confirmed for the starring role.

That part had originally gone to Willow Smith, but she passed on it in January. Now Wallis is confirmed for the role, Deadline reports, which will be her first starring part since "Beasts." Wallis also has a small role in Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave."

20,000 Leagues

So much for the plan for Brad Pitt to star in David Fincher's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." According to a new report, the actor is no longer a prospective part of the project.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Pitt's departure (if he ever was attached), but it's not all bad news for the Jules Verne adaptation. Apparently the Australian government has offered Walt Disney Pictures a 30 percent rebate if the studio opts to film the movie down under.

Skyfall

After making a movie that raked in over $1 billion worldwide and is widely recognized as one of the best James Bond movies, is it any surprise that Sam Mendes is considering returning as director for the upcoming "Bond 24"? Not to us, and we're glad that he's finally realizing what a smart idea it is too.

Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye has learned that Mendes is "75 per cent" on board with directing the flick, so it's not set in stone. Still, that's better than zero percent, and it seems pretty likely that he'll helm the next 007 project if he and screenwriter John Logan can develop a movie worth making. "In theory, Mendes is on board, but wants to see the finished script before he fully commits," Bamigboye writes.

Hugh Laurie

Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland" is close to casting a formidable villain. It's being reported that Hugh Laurie is in talks to play the top-secret project's antagonist.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news about Laurie, though no hints as to who his character is or why he will act as a villain. In fact, very few details are known about the project beyond the fact it used to be called "1952" and is supposed to be similar to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Monsters University

Sometimes it's easy to forget the voice actor behind a character in an animated movie, but in the case of "Monsters University," John Goodman and Billy Crystal are an integral part of their characters James P. "Sully" Sullivan and Mike Wazowski. Goodman recently visited "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," and during his visit he gave his take on the plot of the new Pixar movie and debuted a new clip. His synopsis is much more succinct -- and hilarious -- than the official one.

"It's about Mike and Sully, my character, being in college, doing some fraternity pranks. Monsters, fraternities, they're not that far apart," Goodman explained.

Nemo

Marlin might have already found Nemo, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a role to play in the upcoming "Finding Nemo 2." It's being reported that Albert Brooks will return as the father clownfish in the new movie.

Deadline has the news, though it's unclear what role Marlin will have in the movie. He'll rejoin original director Andrew Stanton and fellow voice actor Ellen DeGeneres in the upcoming flick.

Grinch

Is nothing sacred? It doesn't seem like it, as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," one of the best animated Christmas movies around, is reportedly getting remade.

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment and Dr. Seuss' widow Audrey Geisel are working together to reboot the classic Seuss story. In 1966, Chuck Jones made a version of the tale that has definitely lasted the test of time, and then Jim Carrey starred in a live-action version from Universal called "The Grinch" in 2000.

Apparently two attempts isn't enough, and nothing can just be left alone. It's worth noting that there are plenty of other Seuss tales to cull from ("Hop on Pop," anyone?), but for some reason this seems to be the one that is being brought to the big screen. Illumination is also working on an animated adaptation of "Cat in the Hat."

Ryan Gosling's directorial debut "How To Catch A Monster" is acquiring quite a fan-favorite cast. In addition to "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks, the upcoming flick is said to have gained "Doctor Who" lead Matt Smith.

Variety has the news, saying that Gosling's girlfriend Eva Mendes also has a role in the movie. Smith will take the male lead in the flick, while Hendricks plays Billy, the central female. It's unclear what role Mendes has, and if Gosling will also pick a part in his first directorial effort.
