FROM SPLASH PAGE: Actor Michael Shannon will be seen on screen with "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart in "The Runaways" later this month, but just he'll also be appearing alongside Josh Brolin in June as a character in "Jonah Hex," the live-action film based on DC's western hero.
MTV News managed to get some info on Shannon's "Hex" role during a press event for the "Runaways" biopic.
"I play a fellow named Doc Cross Williams," said Shannon. "In the comic book, or graphic novel, he's kind of one of those old vaudevillian... He has a traveling show where he has cock fights and dog fights and strange creatures, and he's a snake-oil kind of guy."

FROM MTV.COM: I know I'm not alone in raising an eyebrow when an alleged list of contenders for the lead role in "The First Avenger: Captain America" hit the 'Net. Jim from "The Office"? That guy from "Gossip Girl"?
Still, remembering how down I was on Heath Ledger pre-"Dark Knight," I'm not going to pre-judge the rumored contenders. I've learned my lesson. When it comes to picturing how each actor will look if he dons Captain America's star-spangled suit, that's a job better left to Photoshop... and the Splash Page design crew.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" didn't quite wield the power of the gods when it arrived in theaters this weekend and came in second at the box office to "Valentine's Day," so what does that mean for its star, Logan Lerman, and rumors that he's up for the lead role in Marc Webb's "Spider-Man"?
As regular readers are already aware, Lerman set the 'Net on fire recently when he mentioned in passing that he was in talks to play Peter Parker. Even though Lerman backed off that statement a bit in a subsequent interview with MTV News, we pondered exactly what might be at stake when Lerman makes his debut in "Percy Jackson" — and now it's time to figure out whether playing a god means he'll be playing a superhero.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: The new, live-action "Spider-Man" movie will hit theaters July 3, 2012, filmed in 3-D and directed by "500 Days of Summer" filmmaker Marc Webb.
Sony made the release date official today, and added that the film will debut in 3-D when it premieres. Production on the project, which has yet to name an actor for the lead role, is expected to begin later this year. The studio announcement also indicated that the film's title hasn't been finalized yet — though we're pretty sure the name "Spider-Man" will be in there somewhere.
“Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D," said Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution, in the statement. "Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.”

Moreso than most movies, "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" has us feeling terribly conflicted. On one hand, we're such fans of the source material for Edgar Wright's adaptation that we're eager to know as much as possible (and as soon as possible) about how it's being brought to life on the screen. On the other hand, we don't want to ruin the surprises Wright has planned for us.
That's why we can't help but ask the "Scott Pilgrim" cast about the film whenever we get a chance — and to be honest, we're kind of relieved when they don't give away too much about the film. Take, for example, our recent conversation with actress Anna Kendrick, who plays Stacey Pilgrim:
"I've seen it. It's awesome," said Kendrick when asked if she's been one of the lucky few to have screened the film. "There's nothing to compare it to. It's like the energy from 'Ferris Bueller' and the action from 'Kill Bill.' It's amazing."
What do you think of Kendrick's description? Let us know in the comment section or on Twitter!
FROM SPLASH PAGE: Over the last few months, we've heard from "Kick-Ass" cast mates Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Clark Duke and Mark Strong, but one person who we've heard very little from is Kick-Ass himself, Aaron Johnson.
In the film, Johnson plays high-schooler Dave Lizewski, a teenage comics fan who decides to try his hand at being a costumed vigilante, only to face some harsh realities about fighting crime. MTV News caught up with Johnson at the Sundance Film Festival to ask him about the film — specifically, whether he's spoken to director Matthew Vaughn or "Kick-Ass" comic co-creator Mark Millar about their plans for a sequel.
"We'll see, we'll see," said Johnson. "It would be great to do a sequel."

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Earlier today we told you about Samuel L. Jackson's new comic book series, "Cold Space," but now we get back to the projects that are foremost on comics fans' minds: the Marvel movies in which he plays S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury.
Since he's listed as part of the official cast of "Thor," Kenneth Branagh's upcoming take on Marvel's god of thunder, we had to ask how his character will fit into the film. Will Fury drop by to recruit Thor for the Avengers like he did in "Iron Man"?
We'd love to tell you Jackson gave us the full scoop, but apparently he didn't know he was even in the film until he read the news. However, he did have some opinions to offer on Fury's relationship to Thor and how much of the character we'll see in Marvel's future movies.
