Robert Downey Jr. in ''Sherlock HolmesThis weekend we saw a flurry of first-look photos hit the 'Net of "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. in costume as the great detective himself, Sherlock Holmes. Not one to be left out of the picture party, MTV News has managed to collect a heap of new photos from the London set of the film, showing Downey in various versions of his detective attire, in mid-leap from St. Paul's Cathedral (well, his stunt double, anyway) and taking an in-costume stroll around the set.

We've also thrown in a few photos of "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie doing his thing on the set and having some laughs with the cast and crew.

Two of the photos are posted after the jump, and you can click on either of 'em to see our full gallery of photos from Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes." Read More...

'The Spirit'FROM SPLASH PAGE: Sure, everyone's been talking about Frank Miller's "The Spirit," but this isn't the first time Will Eisner's classic character has taken a turn in the live-action medium.

Way back in 1987, screenwriter Steven de Souza was fresh off a pair of genre-defining hits with "48 Hours" and "Commando." Just before undertaking the project that would become one of his best-known films, "Die Hard," de Souza wrote and produced a television pilot based on "The Spirit" -- the first live-action adaptation of the long-running comic strip. While the series was never picked up, the 74-minute film has lived on as a cult classic of sorts among comic fans.

With Miller's take on "The Spirit" currently suffering the slings and arrows of early fan critique, MTV News thought it might be interesting to reach out to the writer who first brought "The Spirit" into the live-action world for a chat about Miller's spin and the task of bringing the character to screens big and small.

Jon FavreauFROM SPLASH PAGE: "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau had plenty to say about the film future of Marvel's armored hero during a live, online Q&A session with fans, including some hints about the storylines that will drive "Iron Man 2," the characters -- both good and bad -- that could make an appearance, and how he feels about the other big superhero movie that hit theaters this year.

"Mandarin is still an important figure in the Iron Man universe," wrote Favreau during the live chat hosted by the LA Times' Hero Complex blog. "We have an interesting take on him that allows us to incorporate the whole pantheon of villains. The whole 10 Rings thing in ['Iron Man'] was a good tease for it." Read More...
