James Franco

Sam Raimi is making a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," in case you forgot. It's a 3D prequel, too, and it's called "Oz The Great and Powerful," about the formative days of the titular wizard's rule over the kingdom. As the original movie is such a hallowed entry in the canon, Raimi's got to be very careful about how he approaches any new material.

One of the movie's stars, Joey King, told TeenSpot.com how the new movie will pay homage.

You're about to watch an exclusive clip from Liam Neeson's upcoming thriller, "The Grey." This time, he's not fighting terrorists who've kidnapped his daughter or an identity thief, but something far more immutable: the wilderness itself.

A group of men are stranded in Alaska following a plane crash, and Neeson's the leader who must bring them back to civilization. While trekking through the unknown, they're forced to use their intelligence to survive the threats of the wild: wolves, and lots of them.

Star Trek"Star Trek 2" is coming! "Star Trek 2" is coming! Forgive our enthusiasm, but come on: it's been a long wait for a sequel to the 2009 relaunch, but according to director J.J. Abrams, things are finally getting off the ground.

In an interview with Collider, Abrams revealed a bunch of new details about the film, with the important note that shooting officially starts on Thursday. He also dishes about a few other things, like the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch ("We just were looking for someone with the most awesome name in history") and the recent announcement that the film would be released in 3D.

There's no better way to celebrate a slow Friday than by checking out movie stills, especially when they're from some of 2012's most anticipated films. After the click, take a look at some of the action!

Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth is a bona fide action star, as unlikely as that sounds. After coming to attention as Miley Cyrus's beau in "The Last Song," the Aussie's taken his turn in upcoming beefy blockbusters like "The Hunger Games" and "The Expendables 2." Now, the push continues, as he's about to hit a Rock.

Deadline reports that Hemsworth is close to a deal to star in "Empire State," which they call an indie heist movie based on the story of a 1982 NYC armed car robbery. At the time, it was the largest cash grab in U.S. history. Can't you just see the taglines now? (Sample: "They said it couldn't be done. They thought wrong.")

Saruman

In a video message to his fans, Christopher Lee sounds as he ever does.

"We are coming to the end of 2011," he intones in his trademark baritone. "I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, a happy Christmas, and the family's gathered together." Proceeding from there, he begins to talk about the state of the world, and how the state of things are in bad shape. It's heavy talk coming from the long-time actor, but with his 90th birthday approaching, it would be weirder if he didn't have thoughts of mortality on his mind.

Lee spends much of the video discussing "The Hobbit," the two-part prequel to "Lord of the Rings" that sees the actor returning to the role of Saruman the White.

Paranormal Activity

Today, the existence of "Paranormal Activity 4" was announced -- not so shocking considering the franchise’s hefty popularity with fall crowds.

The most recent installment completed a rough trilogy, which begs the question of what a further film could touch upon that wouldn’t feel trite or done. Audiences may be sick of Micah and Katie by this point, and the series’ trademark found footage look hasn’t received any serious updates. It could be time for a serious rejuvenation, which is why we came up with this list of some directors we wish would get hired.

Bond

There are only 296-some days until the release of "Skyfall," the newest James Bond movie. That's what you're greeted with upon entering the new 007.com, which just relaunched in anticipation of the Bond franchise's imminent revival. We've had half a century of Bond, in case you forgot -- he's older than The Beatles, older than Michael Jordan. Almost as old as President Obama!

Gump

There are a lot of movies in the world, some of them even very good. It's a hard task keeping track of all of them, but that's what big government is for -- specifically, the Library of Congress's National Film Registry, which every year selects a list of films deemed worthy of preservation. For everyone but the most arduous cinephile, it's a mix between films known and films obscure, the stuff we'd like to tell our kids about assuming Western civilization doesn't collapse in the near future.

This year's list stuck to the script, as movies like "Forrest Gump" and "Bambi" were selected alongside lesser-known ones like "The Negro Soldier" and "The Cry of the Children."

Ben Affleck's a man of action now, isn't he? A few years ago, his career relegated him to romcom barf fests like "Gigli" and "Surviving Christmas." Not anymore -- he's built up plenty of critical momentum and box office success through gritty dramas like "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town," enough to allow him to take on more heady roles, like next year's "Argo."

Argo

That's the one where he's a CIA operative posing as a member of a film crew in order to rescue diplomats who've been taken hostage, all in 1979 Tehran. The movie they're pretending to work on? Naturally, it's a sci-fi film called "Argo." This first photo shows him looking a little shaggy, a little determined; definitely not the clean-cut wise guy he earned his early career heartthrob status through. He's looking very deliberately at some documents, but we've got no idea what they might be. Maybe it's a Denny's menu. Maybe there's a comic book behind it. (Probably not.)
