For many Americans, Benedict Cumberbatch is somewhat of an unknown quantity. Though he’s gathered accolades for his roles in English projects like "Sherlock" and "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy," he hasn’t had a big Stateside success just yet -- something that will change soon, as he’s set to star in a number of blockbusters within the year. Though his voice will only be used for "The Hobbit," Cumberbatch will have a prominent role as (perhaps) a villain in the untitled "Star Trek" sequel, due for release in 2013.

When we caught up with "Star Trek" star Chris Pine (Captain Kirk, if you forgot) at the premiere of "This Means War," he told us about his excitement for Cumberbatch to get his proper due.

Machete

If you loved Robert Rodriguez's 2010 action campfest, "Machete," you're in luck: Deadline reports that he's signed on for a sequel titled "Machete Kills," the second in a planned trilogy.

Star Danny Trejo is expected to return, as is most of the original cast. The first "Machete" made loads of money on a tiny budget -- with that type of financial payoff, what's the risk in returning to such a memorable world?

Harrison FordFilm geek scoop of the day: Harrison Ford is apparently in early talks to appear in Ridley Scott's new "Blade Runner" movie.

One imagines he would be back as the iconic Rick Deckard, though, of course, that's mere speculation at this point. A "Blade Runner" sequel is at least two years away from coming to fruition, and nothing has been set in stone, including Ford's possible casting.

But if he is involved in Scott's new take on the "Blade Runner" universe, then there's a lot of ways it could play out.

Clint Eastwood

Thanks to Clint Eastwood's Super Bowl commercial, the economy is saved -- unemployment is over, production is up, and we will all be fine, bless us. Okay, not really, but his Chrysler ad touting the revival of the American workforce was minorly touching, if only because his gruff voice adds so much weight to any statement. He could have said something like, "Bears are responsible for 90% of forest fires," and we would've listened. Duh, he's Clint Eastwood!

In that spirit, we thought of five other things that his trademark growl could improve. Check 'em out past the jump.

Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman's Oscar nomination has been a long time coming, so excuse the Englishman for getting a little cast crazy in the post-ceremony celebration.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oldman is entering final negotiations to play the villain of "Motor City," a movie about "a small-time hood who is framed and sent to prison, only to exact revenge years later to get back the woman he loves." Directed by Albert Hughes, who previously helmed "The Book of Eli" and "From Hell," it will look to start shooting in April.

After the release of its first trailer, the news of "Prometheus" being a slight "Alien" prequel is more or less an open secret. Thankfully, the filmmakers haven't tried to pretend otherwise.

Prometheus

A newly released screenshot finds "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" star Noomi Rapace in the corridor of a space ship, alone except for the pair of shadowy space jockeys standing right behind her.

Visiting the set of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is not unlike stepping into an elaborate joke. There's the Oval Office, Congress, a guy in a top hat and a beard... carrying an axe and fighting a vampire. It's a little bit more out there than Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" biopic, to say the least.

Speaking to MTV in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Benjamin Walker, who plays the reimagined Lincoln, downplayed the departure.

"He's the Abraham Lincoln we know; he's the hero," he told us. "In this context, he is also an action hero."

Tim Burton

Tim Burton is busy, as he always is. There's the Johnny Depp-ledadaptation of the soap opera "Dark Shadows," his long-running update of his "Frankenweenie" animated project, and his producing work on the live screen "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (in case you forgot about that one, not that you could). All of those projects look exciting, and we're sure his legions of fans will flock to them in the theaters. But it's another project that would get more casual moviegoers jazzed beyond jazzed -- a sequel to "Beetlejuice," his horror-comedy classic from the '80s.

Talking to MTV News, Burton divulged a little about his thought process regarding any potential work on "Beetlejuice 2."

Avatar

"Avatar" is the highest grossing movie of all-time, so it's no surprise fans are hot to trot for a sequel -- or that director James Cameron is dedicated to producing as many of the blockbusters as possible. There are two "Avatar" sequels supposedly lined up, to be filmed at the same time for release at consecutive Christmases between 2014 and 2015.

As producer Jon Landau reveals, that may or may not be the case. Speaking at a screening for "Titanic 3D," Landau reportedly remarked that "Avatar 2" is "four years out," marking it for release in 2016. Asked to clarify by Empire, he slightly recanted, saying "It's in that window, '14, '15."

Oldman

For his role in "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy," Gary Oldman is getting a lot of buzz as a potential Oscar nominee. It would be his first, if you can believe it. He’s popped up in so many memorable roles over the years, but he’s never received any adulation from the Academy.

In anticipation of the hopeful good news, we came up with a list of five other actors who’ve never gotten the call either.
