UPDATE: Paramount has confirmed to MTV that this news is indeed true. No surprises there, given the original source. Kudos to Deadline Hollywood for snagging the scoop!

Speculating fans of the "Mission: Impossible" series need speculate no more. We've been hearing for awhile about "Mission: Impossible IV." "M:I3" director J.J. Abrams told us in October that he probably wouldn't be back to direct, but he'd stay involved as a producer. He then told us in January that star Tom Cruise was "part of the plan" for the next one. Today's news supports both of those assertions.

It turns out that Cruise will, in fact, reprise his Ethan Hunt role to star in "Mission: Impossible IV," as reported by Deadline Hollywood. He will also produce the film, along with Abrams, and the two are currently searching for their director. The script, as had previously been reported, will be penned by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Read more...

Jessica Alba is one among an ensemble of talented performers who will make the hearts of couples go pitter-patter this weekend when "Valentine's Day" arrives in theaters. But Alba is also committed to another ensembled cast, a bloodier one, for the Robert Rodriguez-directed "Grindhouse" spin-off, "Machete."

That ensemble includes Steven Seagal, the "Lawman" star who really needs no introduction. If you haven't seen "Under Siege," you're missing out. Anyway, during a recent interview with Alba, MTV's Josh Horowitz asked her to comment on her burly co-star.

His exact words were, "What's Steven Seagal like to work with?" The query was followed by an uncertain smile, a brief darting of the eyes and an extended pause. "He's Steven Seagal," she replied, clearly hesitant to go further. Read more...

For the past several months, we've been following a developing story around the "Terminator" franchise. Despite the solid box office performance of 2009's "Terminator Salvation," license-holder Halcyon Holding Corp. was forced to file for bankruptcy in the latter half of last year. The killer robot franchise has been up on the auction block for awhile, with studio frontrunners Lionsgate and Sony leading the charge.

We knew as of last week that the auction was scheduled for yesterday, and that the winner would become the new owner of all things "Terminator" moving forward: movies, TV, games, books, toys, etc. In an odd twist, it seems that the winner is neither Lionsgate nor Sony. It's not even a movie studio! The new owner of the "Terminator" franchise is hedge fund Pacificor, Nikki Finke reports for Deadline Hollywood. Wait though... this news gets even wackier. This past Sunday, more than 106 million viewers tuned in to watch the New Orleans Saints best the Indianapolis Colts for their first-ever Super Bowl win. One of the key players responsible for the Saints' 31-17 victory over the Colts was Reggie Bush, star running back and significant other of celebutante Kim Kardashian.

As you might expect, the happy couple had much to celebrate about on Sunday night. And they invited a few friends along to join in the festivities. No one big. Only Lennox Lewis, former undisputed World heavyweight champion and Scottie Pippen, who with (and later without) Michael Jordan, led the Chicago Bulls to NBA championship wins six times over. Real bit players, right? Read more...

In the pantheon of spy TV series', "24" has a well-earned place among the best of them. The ever-growing legion of fans will happily tell you, at great length, that the Kiefer Sutherland-starring action/drama serves up intense plot developments on a week-to-week basis. There's also the cool real-time gimmick: every episode unfolds across a single hour in the story's timeline.

It's that last fact which makes the series so perfectly suited to the episodic development of the story. It's also why I'm baffled by today's news that a big screen adaptation is something that may well happen, and soon. We first heard rumblings of "24" movie plans way back in April 2006, when Sutherland told MTV that a script was in development. Then, in 2007, we spoke with D.B. Woodside (President Wayne Palmer on the show), who told us that the new plan was to shoot a movie after the series wrapped up, in "one or two more years." It's almost three years later now, but it looks like the basic framework -- to shoot after "24" closes -- remains. Read more...

If you're a fan of celebrity culture and you have HBO, chance are you're a fan of "Entourage." The half-hour comedy series follows the exploits of fictional movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier, from his formative days as an up-and-comer through his first big break (complete with many amusing James Cameron cameos) and on through his first flirtations with the business side of Hollywood. We learned last year that there are currently plans for an "Entourage" movie to follow the series, so when MTV's Eric Ditzian spoke to Grenier at Sundance in January, he had to ask for some update on what's developing there.

For his part, Grenier doesn't really know much yet. "I'm just waiting for them to tell me when to show up, what's my call time," he explained. "I can't wait." Read more...

Late last year, it was revealed that "Twilight" actress Ashley Greene would be starring in an upcoming thriller called "The Apparition." She would play one half of a couple who are responsible for letting loose a supernatural being after a college experiment goes awry. We learned later, at the beginning of January, that "Gossip Girl" star Sebastian Stan would headline alongside Greene.

Now another, equally high-profile name has joined the cast of "Apparition." None other than Tom Felton, a staple of Brian Warmoth's Twitter-Wood columns. You also might know him as Draco Malfoy from a little franchise called "Harry Potter." The news comes exclusively from ShockTillYouDrop, and you can find some more details after the jump. There's a wacky bit of circularity in the end of the seven weeks "Avatar" spent at the top of the box office. The blockbuster juggernaut hit theaters in mid-December. Over the weeks that followed, it proceeded to shatter box office record after box office record, including the holy trinity of accomplishments -- top-grossing domestic, international and worldwide release of all-time -- held by James Cameron's previous effort, "Titanic."

The movie that ultimately unseated "Avatar" was "Dear John," a couples-friendly romantic drama that likely drew in a large number of women viewers this weekend while dudes were watching the Super Bowl. Which isn't to say that the two sexes can't find something to enjoy in both the Super Bowl and a modern-day love story; rather, I'm simply speaking to the broad demographics of each one's intended audience. UPDATE: Following reports from ROBsessed and GossipCOP that the Daily Record story was a fabrication, we reached out to Pattinson's representation for clarification. The response we got is that he never spoke to them. Consider this "interview" debunked.

FROM MTV.COM: Following the November blockbuster release of "New Moon," Robert Pattinson has maintained a relatively low profile as he geared up to begin filming "Bel Ami" alongside Uma Thurman in Europe. That cloud of welcome anonymity is about to break, though, as the PR machine ramps up for another RPattz film release: the romantic drama "Remember Me."

In an interview with the Scottish Daily Record, Pattinson spoke of his paranoia about relationships, the eventual end of the "Twilight" series and some very intimate on-camera time he'll soon share with Thurman.

It's a busy weekend at the box office, and not just because it's my birthday. Three big movies are opening, and now that there's no pressure to unseat "Avatar" -- "Dear John" accomplished that over the weekend -- we can just focus on which one will be your favorite.

My own pick for the weekend is "The Wolfman." Universal is reviving their classic creature feature, and all reports I've heard point to a bloody, terrifying good time. Sweeeeet. Benicio Del Toro stars as the titular man-canine, which is a perfect bit of casting. There's also Anthony Hopkins, who appears to be playing the "Wolfman" equivalent of Dr. Abraham Van Helsing. This is funny since Hopkins played just that role in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" back in the '90s. Read more...
