'Twilight'With the big-screen debut of "Twilight" looming, author Stephenie Meyer recently offered up a list of 12 of her biggest inspirations for the wildly popular series to EW.com. While she name-checks quite a few bands among her muses when scripting stories of forbidden love and vampire relations (the series has inspired an entirely new music genre, "Twi-Rock," after all), there are definitely a few surprises in the bunch.

Meyer heaps praise on actor Robert Downey Jr. and describes "Iron Man" as "the best superhero movie that's ever been done," adding that she considers the Marvel Studios blockbuster to be a great model of "how you should feel coming out of a movie."

Twilight has one up on Harry Potter, at least when it comes to the music -- at least one member of the cast of “Twilight” has heard Twi-rock. (Daniel Radcliffe, however, has not heard wizard rock… yet).

“It’s such a cool idea,” said Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in “Twilight.” “I love this stuff! The Bella Cullen Project, they’re doing awesome.”


Lutz counts himself equally a fan of HP and Twilight, and is glad to see that wizard rock has opened the door for book rock. “I think there’s a lot of potential with all the fans that are out there,” he said. “How much they care about it, how passionate they are, it’s really cool to see." First there was wizard rock. Then there was Twi-rock. And now that the floodgates have opened, expect to see a lot more bands singing about books and movies.

Devin Overman from the Owl Post and Be Safe Bella wants to start a third band, called simply Book Rock. "Each song would be about a different book, like 'Lord of the Flies,'" she said. "It wouldn't have to be specific to fantasy series." Read more...
