FROM SPLASH PAGE: Recent comments from "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donner have cast some doubt on the future prospects of "X-Men Origins: Magneto," the David Goyer-penned origin story focusing on the mutant menace's early years.
Donner said that while Goyer's script is "brilliant," the chances of the movie actually making it to theaters are dwindling. Certainly, it's on the lowest rung of an "X-Men" ladder that already consists of a "Wolverine" sequel, a "Deadpool" solo movie and "X-Men: First Class."
Speaking with MTV News, Goyer's thoughts regarding the "Magneto" adaptation surprisingly mirrored Donner's own—in other words, the "Batman Begins" scribe believes that "Magneto" should be on the back-burner.

Episode Title: "Landing at Point Rain"

The Story: It's like a return to "Attack of the Clones," but in a good way. Ever since the opening shots of the Clone Wars were fired on Geonosis in the rescue of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, the Separatist forces there have been shoring up their military assets with help from a newly established planetside robot factory. The key to the Republic's assault on the planet rests in the hands of three Jedi generals -- Skywalker, along with Masters Kenobi and Ki-Adi Mundi -- who are charged with leading an advance force to take out the facility's shields, allowing walker tanks to bring it down with their heavier guns. As I told you all earlier this week, MTV ace reporter and Twilighter-in-residence Larry Carroll will be speaking with the cast of "New Moon" (in theaters November 20) very, very soon. And while he has plenty of questions prepped and ready -- heck, there have been strategy meetings to that effect -- he also wants to give you fans a shot at having your own queries heard.
So... here's how it's going to roll. The interviews will consist of four solo sessions, with director Chris Weitz and stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. There will also be three group interviews, with the members of the Cullen family, the Wolf Pack and the Volturi, respectively. That's seven interviews, four solo and three group. In the interests of keeping things fair (and manageable) please send along no more than one question per interview. We'll pare the list down (there's bound to be some overlap) and do our best to make your voices heard. To submit your questions, just e-mail us at tips@mtvmoviesblog.com before the end of the day today.
I almost can't take this news. The brothers Coen -- Joel and Ethan -- are among the best filmmakers out there. This isn't opinion; it is a fact, supported by such stellar efforts as "The Big Lebowski," "A Serious Man" and the Oscar-winning adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel, "No Country For Old Men." So when the news broke last month that they'd be directing a new take on Chris Portis' novel "True Grit," I was beside myself.
MTV's Josh Horowitz caught up with the duo later in September, in one of their only solo interviews of the Toronto International Film Festival. There they confirmed that Jeff Bridges, previously revealed to be playing Rooster Cogburn, would indeed be wearing his character's eyepatch, like John Wayne before him. "That'd be like doing Richard II without the limp," Joel said. He also revealed the source of the adaptation: "We’re not looking at the movie. It’s a great book. It’s a very funny book." Read more...
Wasn’t “The Soloist” hilarious? Remember all those crazy scenes of Robert Downey Jr. spilling urine on himself, and Jamie Foxx acting like he might be insane? Ah, good times, good times.
Oh wait, “Soloist” was a drama? Well, now that you mention it, maybe I shouldn’t have been laughing so much. Either way, the good news is that Foxx and Downey Jr. are reuniting for a real comedy from the director of “The Hangover.” And this time, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay to laugh.
“Yeah, it’s called ‘Due Date,’” Jamie Foxx said of the film, issuing some high praise for director Todd Phillips, who also made “Old School” a frat-house classic. “He is the funniest guy in the world.” Read more...
There was a lot to catch up on in Twitter-Wood today after my long weekend, including the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's first appearance on television, which member John Cleese and fan Edgar Wright both noted. Elsewhere, Edward Norton and Danny Masterson had good things to tweet about Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's live solo performance, and Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale joined Paris Hilton among those tweeting their Halloween costume plans for 2009.
There is loads more to check out, though, believe it or not, as James Gunn tweeted a pic of himself offering juice to a horse that may belong to Rainn Wilson and Jeremy Piven posted a behind-the-scene shot of Matt Damon from "Entourage." I can't even summarize it all today, I retweeted so many people. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter-Wood report for October 5, 2009. Read more...

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
If I could redo my college thesis, I'd skip over the deformed-step-child-of-Hemingway creative writing project and undertake a comprehensive analysis of the time travel movie genre in Hollywood. In lieu of some assistance from a Flux Capacitor-equipped DeLorean or a George Carlin-provided phone booth, I think my only viable option is to devote my first Sick Day Stash to an underrated gem of the field: Jean-Claude Van Damme's bundle of schlocky goodness, "Timecop." Harrison Ford has tackled many, many, many memorable roles over his career. Han Solo in "Star Wars." Jack Trainer in "Working Girl." The United States President in "Air Force One." The fugitive in, well, "The Fugitive." But, let's not forget that at the end of the day he's Indiana Jones. So when MTV News was invited to a Team Earth event where Indy himself was making an appearance, we couldn't say no. After all, it's not every day you get to ask the whip-wielding one what we can expect from a fifth "Indiana Jones" flick.
It seems like Ford doesn't know what to expect from the flick either. Or maybe he just isn't talking. "We're waiting on a script," he said. As for when that script might surface, Ford isn't holding his breath: "Ah, not yet." Read more...
Though Patrick Swayze's extensive career prompted massive tweeting about "Dirty Dancing," "Point Break" and "Ghost" today, it's important not to forget some of his less prominent contributions from "Donnie Darko" and "Saturday Night Live." Richard Kelly and Seth Meyers were just two of the many mourners who showed up in the Twitter-Wood feed to share such memories.
Swayze's death wasn't the only tragedy to appear today, though, as Jessica Simpson's dog Daisy was apparently kidnapped by a coyote. The actress and singer posted a worried pick of the missing pooch her account, in case anyone finds it. Elsewhere, "Eclipse" filming continues and you can find tweets from director David Slade as well as actors Peter Facinelli and Anna Kendrick below. They're in the Twitter-Wood report for September 15, 2009. Read more...

Martin Lawrence has had his ups and downs this decade in terms of box office success, but like most actors he can always do well with his franchises. And fortunately for him, both of his franchises have new sequels on the way.
Earlier this week, Columbia Pictures announced that a script is being written for "Bad Boys 3," though neither Lawrence nor Will Smith is yet signed on for another installment. Now Variety reports that Fox is developing a third movie in the "Big Momma's House" series. Again, there's no word on Lawrence's involvement, but given that his last two movies were only modest successes, it's likely that he'll return. Read more...
