Ryan Gosling came out of his last Nicolas Winding Refn movie, "Drive," pretty much unscathed. Sure, he took a knife in the gut near the end, but that didn't stop him from driving off into the sunset to some retro-sounding synth music.
It doesn't look like he'll be so lucky for his next Refn movie, "Only God Forgives." A new picture from the Bangkok set (via ComingSoon) shows a battered and beaten Gosling, still managing to look sharply dressed, naturally.

We think it's safe to say at this point that "Only God Forgives" looks like it will be an entirely different monster from "Drive." Gosling's character, Julian, is much more "real human being" and less a "real hero" than Driver was.
In "Only God Forgives," Julian is a former kickboxer, gangster and the son of a notorious crime boss, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, who must avenge his brother's death in Thailand.
Frankly, even if there wasn't a badass premise (like there is) and rumors of lots of swordplay (like there is), "Only God Forgives" already completely has us sold. The last time Gosling and Refn collaborated they made one of the most exciting and surprising films in a long while. That they're so eager to work together again can only mean good things.
There's no word on a release date, so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that it's sooner rather than later.
