It's easy to see why the cast of "Star Trek 2" is thrilled to have Benedict Cumberbatch join their movies. The "Sherlock" star has made a splash onto the Hollywood scene this year in movies like "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "War Horse," and his presence definitely helped improve both films.
"Star Trek" star Chris Pine recently told MTV News that he loves the "intensity" Cumberbatch brings to the "Star Trek 2" set, something he felt the Brit learned at acting school. So when MTV News caught up with Cumberbatch at Elton John's post-Oscars party, it seemed only fair to ask him about his classic training.
"Well, it's very sweet to say," Cumberbatch replied. "I actually did a year at drama school, so I'm not that trained; I'm not that classical, but I'm flattered."
And those aren't the only compliments his costars had about him. Unsurprisingly, Cumberbatch had nothing but kind things to say back about his cast.
"I think they are brilliant on that show, and it's a real privilege to be on that set," he said. "There's a patter and a kind of knowledge of who they're playing and the other main characters, which I'm learning a lot from. It's just good fun. It's great to work with Chris. He's very professional. So is Zach [Quinto], who I've been working a lot with; I adore him, he's a brilliant, brilliant guy."
The reason why all those juicy set photos have been leaked recently is because Cumberbatch's villainous role -- whatever that may be -- is finally kicking into high gear. And while the man better known as Sherlock Holmes wouldn't give any insight into why he was fighting with Quinto and Saldana, he would talk about how much fun he's having on set.
"My part of the film is really sorta kicking in now. It's great fun, great, great fun," he said. "But what I'm trying to say is it's a great thing to come into something that everybody's familiar with and knows each other very well. So it's [in] a weird way a very easy thing to get up to speed with, because everybody is so welcoming and gets along with one another."
