Umbrella Corporation is at it again. The first trailer for "Resident Evil: Retribution," the fifth installment in the "Resident Evil" film series, has hit the web, and it looks like the zombie-killing is back and better than ever.
The movie follows leading lady Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, as she awakens in the heart of Umbrella's operations facility. The survivor continues to hunt down those responsible for the T-virus outbreak, a search that takes her across the world. The synopsis for the movie reveals that the flick eventually culminates in a "mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything she once thought to be true." Sounds like retribution is indeed in order.
The opening minutes of the
Sony commercial trailer tease that this movie might act as something of a prequel to the franchise while still progressing the present day story. We know from the previous "Resident Evil" films that the world as we know it is gone, but those "My World" commercials show what looks like a futuristic Earth before the T-virus turned most of the world's population into undead monsters.
Those, coupled with the flashbacks we see in the trailer, seem to imply we're going to find out as much about Alice's past in this movie as we will her future. That's at least what's teased here and in the movie's synopsis. In the end, though, we're most excited about the long-anticipated return of Michelle Rodriguez to the franchise.
"Resident Evil: Retribution" hits theaters on September 14. In addition to Jovovich and Rodriguez, the movie stars Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts and Colin Salmon. It is the third film in the "Resident Evil" franchise to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
