Dragon Tattoo

The wait for David Fincher's take on "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" just got one day shorter. Shows have been added for 7 p.m. on December 20, one day earlier than originally planned. "Dragon Tattoo" is destined to become one of the biggest movies of the holiday season, so even an extra night of shows could mean big returns.

Check out the rest of today's film news after the jump!

Gatsby

"The Great Gatsby" is the Great American Novel, or at least the one you were assigned to read in class before skipping ahead to SparkNotes. Adaptations have been done before, but why not another one? That's the thinking behind Baz Luhrmann's version, a sparkling 3D blockbuster with a budget over $100 million, a cast headed by multiple Oscar nominees and a Christmas 2012 opening date that basically screams, "We are going to win so many freaking awards."

Today, Warner Bros. released a handful of photos showing its actors in place. Check out Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy, looking appropriately dressed to the nines for this 1920s period piece.

Plenty of great movies came our way in 2011, and even more awesome ones are on the horizon for 2012. But even though some of these films feel far away, we've gotten plenty of advanced looks at some of the upcoming year's hottest projects through trailers, posters and even the considerably more shady set-stalking.

From leaked set photos to leaked set videos, here are five of the movies most worthy of set-stalking in 2011. Vote for which one was your favorite beyond the break!

Tom Cruise is not a normal man. He's lived a life of celebrity since his "Risky Business" days, and it's hard to see where he gets a chance to come down to reality, if ever. But it does happen... sort of!

When we talked to the "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" star at the film's press junket in Dubai last week, we asked him what the most mundane thing about his life was.

Convinced "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" is hands down the greatest film of 2011? Calm and cocksure when it comes to your belief that while Oscar might ignore "Attack the Block," that indie alien-invasion flick is the year's finest? What does "best" really mean?

Those are the sort of weighty pop-culture questions the folks at MTV confronted when we put together our top-10 movie list of 2011. MTV Movies' Josh Horowitz, Amy Wilkinson and myself, plus NextMovie's Kevin Polowy and Brooke Tarnoff came together to discuss, debate, argue and occasionally curse about everything that went down at the multiplex this year. In the end, we came up with our 10 picks, and this Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET at MTV Movies and NextMovie, we'll be live streaming the debate.

But we had so much to discuss that we'll only have time for the top five during the live stream. So all week long we'll be revealing picks 10 through six. Today we begin with #10: "Attack the Block."

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie
is about to get her "Fifth Element" on, it seems, as reports of her upcoming sci-fi action collaboration with director Luc Besson are heating up ever more today. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford may have finally found his Jackie Robinson, Michael Shannon's "Iceman" serial killer has found his bride, and "Burt Wonderstone" is crunching the numbers.

It's December 13, and you're tuning into today's Casting Call!

When it comes to the "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" trailer, I just wish the makers of the film would have been more honest upfront.

They tell us that they're going to make a follow-up to the "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," the Stephen Sommers-ification of the beloved action figures and TV show. They say Sommers is out and Dwayne Johnson is in. Plus, there will be Bruce Willis. That's all well and good, but nothing worth punching a wall in celebration.

But then the "Retaliation" trailer hits. Not once did anyone mention Cobra flags flying over the White House. Nobody cared to inform us that it looks like Channing Tatum will bite the dust in the first fifteen minutes. And I know for a fact that no one told us there would be a ninja fight on the side of a mountain, because if they had, we all would have been way more excited.

Star Wars Star Trek Twilight

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there were no sexy vampires whose skin sparkled in the sunlight--and that's exactly how some fans prefer it. Forget Daredevil — Tom Cruise is the man without fear. The "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" star has been suspended from wires, cliff-sides and more in his day, but Hollywood's most famous thrill-seeker has topped himself with his latest "Mission."

We're talking, of course, about Cruise's now-famous Burj Khalifa stunt, the Dubai set piece that sees the actor dangling from the tallest building in the world. Exactly what IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his crew of disavowed spies are doing infiltrating the building remains to be seen, but Cruise credits director Brad Bird for coming up with the idea.

"Bird designed it," Cruise told MTV News at the "Ghost Protocol" press junket held in Dubai. "When I saw it, I said, 'Man, this is incredible. I've gotta put this on screen.'"
