"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is awesome. It's the top-ranked flick on our list of the Best Movies of 2011. What more do you need to know? David Fincher's adaptation of the first book in the Millennium Trilogy is as faithful as it gets (with an important deviation here and there), complete with gruesome twists and stellar performances—indeed, it hosts what could very well be the greatest performance of the year.

Rooney Mara talks Salander!

If all that isn't enough incentive to check out "Dragon Tattoo" this week, here are five other reasons you need to see this movie.

At long last, "The Hobbit" trailer has finally been unveiled.

Ultimately, we've been waiting a decade -- aka since the first "Lord of the Rings" film first hit theaters -- for this movie's trailer to be released finally. Though it's a prequel to the previous movies, "The Hobbit" is a project that has been in development longer than its predecessors. Director Peter Jackson originally wanted to start his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's saga with "The Hobbit", but because of technical issues they had to start with the latter installments of the series.

Watch the "Hobbit" trailer!

We aren't complaining, but there are a lot of things in this trailer that we have been waiting a good long while to see revealed. After the jump, we list off the five most exciting debuts in "The Hobbit's" first official trailer.

It’s time to turn off the Christmas music and put down your credit cards: "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" hits theaters today. And you need to check it out, not least before MTV named it the best movie of 2011. But if a trip to the movies doesn’t seem to be in the cards today, don’t worry. We’ve got a few clips to keep you up to speed.

In this first clip, Mikael Blomkvist first meets Lisbeth Salander. Blomkvist gives Salander a run for her money, after barging into her apartment and interrupting a hookup session (awkward), crossing boundaries that Salander does not take well.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "Prometheus" are dropping their very first trailers this week, sending the pre-holiday news cycle out on a high note. Helping the cause is the already released "Dark Knight Rises" theatrical trailer, which blazed online yesterday in a fury of earthquake devices, Catwoman threats, unintelligible Bane quotes and more.

The holidays are a special time for families to reunite. Sometimes that means meeting up with your mother who is possessed by the devil. The new holiday card for the upcoming found-footage horror film, "The Devil Inside," takes a scarier approach to the most wonderful time of the year and reminds us all what the holidays are really all about.

You're going to want to turn the volume way up for this one. (Maybe not...)

Hobbit

It's been so, so long since we last saw Middle Earth, almost a decade ago if you can believe it. The world returns in 2012's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," another Tolkien adaptation courtesy of Peter Jackson and a sure bet to make all kinds of money.

Besides casting news and the general plot details, we haven't seen too much from the film. All of that changes tonight when the first trailer drops promptly at 7 P.M. PST. For now, you can get a tease by looking at this production still of Bilbo Baggins alongside his dwarf companions. Martin Freeman's Bilbo looks quite dapper in his rumbled clothing and knapsack, while the dwarves look like dwarves.

Bond

Hey, if he ain't broke, why cast another Bond?

Producer Michael G. Wilson wants to take that position when it comes to Daniel Craig as the legendary super spy. In a recent interview with People UK, Wilson revealed that he hopes to keep the latest Bond around for a record-breaking eight movies. With Craig currently filming his third Bond movie, "Skyfall," that would mean five more movies to break the record set by Roger Moore.

When Charlize Theron talks about how to triumph during awards season, you'd better listen. She's a two-time Oscar nominee, a four-time Golden Globe nominee, the star of such respected fare as "Monster," "North Country" and... "Aeon Flux."

Hey, not everyone's a winner, right? Ms. Theron is nonetheless a critically-lauded thespian, and her latest offering — she plays a loathsome yet hilarious YA novelist in "Young Adult" — has once again landed her in the middle of awards-season chatter. Could this be the year she adds a second statue to match the first, which she nabbed for her turn as a serial killer in "Monster"?

Perhaps. But it most certainly is the year you can learn from Theron about how to win an Oscar. In the latest episode of "After Hours," the 36-year-old sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz to explain how to cozy up to the Academy and walk away with a little golden statuette. The easiest way? "Do what I did," she declared. "Just get fat and put a bunch of prosthetics on."

Hear that, aspiring Hollywood A-listers? Skip that acting class and just watch "After Hours."
