FROM MTV MOVIES: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is about to get a little bit bigger. News broke earlier this week that a second location for the "Potter" theme park is reportedly opening at Universal Studios' Hollywood location, bringing all the frozen butter beer and patronuses that Californians could possibly ask for. Looks like now is as good a time as any for the "Potter" cast's hopes for Wizarding World additions to go into effect, too!

Films like "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Jack the Giant Killer" and last year's "Red Riding Hood" all are part of Hollywood's recent trend in taking popular fairy tales and turning them into grown-up fare. Not to be exempt from the fun, Hansel and Gretel turn their interests from eating candy to killing witches in the upcoming film "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," due out on March 2.
The film has certainly evolved since it was first announced. At one point producer Adam McKay told MTV News he was eyeing some actors from the "Twilight" cast to star in the film under director Tommy Wirkola ("Dead Snow"). But that notion never moved forward. Ultimately Wirkola found his leading man and lady in the form of Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, and the movie finished shooting earlier this year.
I caught up with Renner when he was promoting "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol," and he admitted that the film was definitely a spin on the classic fairy tale for the MTV generation. And that's exactly why he took it on.

FROM MTV MOVIES: We've begun to look back at the year 2011, and after taking a look at the best trailers from the year, we slow things down a bit and decide which posters said the most, excited us and let us know what to expect in a single image.

These are the ten best poster of 2011. They knew how to capture our attention with images as simple as some rumpled sheets, a shaved head or hot pink letters. They took some of a generation's most iconic symbols, like the Bat-signal or Voldemort, and turned them on their heads.

Helena Bonham Carter might have loved her role in Tim Burton's upcoming film "Dark Shadows," but she was incredibly frank about the project when MTV News caught up with her before last night's Britannia Awards.
Between saying that the movie will be "impossible to sell" to making a hilarious commentary on the original TV show from the '70s and '80s, Bonham Carter gave us an honest taste of what's to come with the film. What she didn't say, though, was that it's a return to vintage Burton. Instead, she clarified that it's a return to his passion projects.
"This is a thing he raced home to see when he was about age 10, so it's returning to his childhood roots of what he loved watching," Bonham Carter said of the original "Dark Shadows." "It's actually a really bad, hilariously bad soap opera, and because it's so bad, he felt he had to make a hugely expensive movie."

We recently brought you news about "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood headlining a remake of William Lustig's sleazy horror classic, "Maniac." It did seem strange that the sweet and gentle Frodo would be playing a perverse psychopath hunting women in his spare time, but we were — dare we say — kind of excited to see how he'd pull it off.
Alexandre Aja ("Piranha," "Haute Tension") is producing the remake that finds Wood as a creepy killer working at an antique mannequin shop (of course). He hunts for his victims through the Internet, and like the original character Frank, has massive mommy issues. The Daily Mail grabbed some stabby snaps of the actor in action (his victim is played by Genevieve Alexandra), so click on over to see Wood get his "Maniac" on.
We sliced our way through this week's horror news so you didn't have to. No one wants that kind of mess on their hands. Click through for more horror bites!

After mulling over the project for many months, Tom Cruise has at last committed to Warner Bros' upcoming film "All You Need Is Kill."
Deadline has the news that Cruise has joined the project, which is being directed by "Jumper" helmer Doug Liman. He'll likely start shooting the movie after he wraps Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion," which he is set to start after he finishes the current shoot on "Rock of Ages." "All You Need Is Kill" follows a new army recruit who gets killed during a battle against an alien species, and is reborn every day to suffer the same fate. When he starts realizing that he is becoming a better soldier as each day passes, he figures out that maybe he can do something to alter the course of the battle.

Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is one of the hottest projects to keep an eye on in 2012, no doubt about it. But among the film's many merits—including Scott's much awaited return to science fiction and a stellar cast that includes Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender—there is one nagging question… is this movie an "Alien" prequel or not?
"Prometheus" stars Fassbender and Noomi Rapace have both confirmed the "Alien" connection, but it's the word "prequel" that has some folks still scratching their heads. But there's at least one person connected to "Prometheus" who doesn't view it as an "Alien" prequel at all: none other than Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO Tom Rothman.
"It is not [an 'Alien' prequel]. It's not," Rothman passionately defended when MTV News pressed him on the question at the Gotham Awards this week. "Hand on heart."

Earlier this week, a brand new poster and several new images debuted from the upcoming Disney fantasy film, "John Carter." The main photo of the bunch showed off the legendary white ape, an icon in the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
In the new trailer, which debuted online on IGN this morning, we see Taylor Kitsch as John Carter take this monstrous beast down in one blow, all set to an orchestral cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir."

It looks like Christian Bale's busy post-"Batman" schedule has forced him to bow out of Darren Aronofsky's "Noah." According to Variety, Bale has passed on the leading role in Aronofsky's long-developing biblical epic, opening the door for 2011 "It Man" Michael Fassbender to step in and replace him.

It’s safe to say that James Bond himself, "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" star Daniel Craig, isn’t Tivo-ing "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." The actor recently chatted with British GQ and had these words for the reality stars that may leave them both shaken and stirred.
"Look at the Kardashians, they're worth millions," he said, according to E! Online. "I don't think they were that badly off [financially] to begin with but now look at them. You see that and you think, 'What, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f--king idiot on television and then you'll pay me millions?'"
