That noise you're hearing is millions of Joss Whedon fans from across the universe yelling "FINALLY!" all at once.

It has taken years for the Whedon co-written movie, "Cabin in the Woods," to finally hit screens, and after last week's teaser poster, here we have the first trailer and the most conclusive evidence yet that this movie may actually open.

Future Whedon collaborator Chris Hemsworth leads a cast of attractive 20-somethings into the familiar set-up. They're looking to go off the grid and spend some time—where else—in a cabin in the woods. With the straight-forward horror set-up, you'd be right to expect Whedon and his co-writer/director Drew Goddard to take things down unexpected paths.

Anyone who saw "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" this summer knows that one of the best parts of the film was Andy Serkis' incredible performance as sentient and revolutionary chimpanzee, Caesar. There has even been early talk of Serkis deserving Academy recognition for his work. Heck, even the stars of the film said the reason to see the film is Serkis and the rest of the apes.

The DVD and Blu-ray powers that be must have been paying attention to all the Serkis buzz because they've created an all-Serkis featurette for the "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" DVD and Blu-ray, out Dec. 13, and we've got your exclusive first look right here. Check out the video below to see "The Genius Of Andy Serkis."

"He really brought a lot of depth to the character," says writer/producer Richard Jaffa, over awesome footage of Serkis' acting in a side-by-side comparison of his raw performance and the finished film. "Once he's in it, he's in it and goes through this incredible transformation."

Harry Potter

If a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, a movie's cast is only great as its worst actor. This year we saw some of 2011's best films held together, not by one stand-out star, but by a group of amazing actors working together to make one great movie.

As we here at MTV News start to look back on the year of movies, we want your input for what you think are the best films of the year. Today, we kick things off for the award for Best Ensemble. Come back every day this week for a new poll and a new chance to decide which movies ruled the multiplex this year.

From battles in Los Angeles and Chicago to children struggling against otherworldly threats, 2011 was an unforgettable year for fighting enemies from beyond the stars. Keep reading for our top five favorite alien invasion flicks of the year!

5. "Battle Los Angeles"
Though not exactly one of my favorite movies of the year, even I can't deny the awesome imagery of the initial waves of invasion in "Battle Los Angeles." The ground-level action puts you in the grimy trenches of an alien assault on what would normally be a sunny day in California. If you can forgive a thin plot, the visual assault you'll weather in "Battle LA" is worth the rental fee.

Star Wars

"Star Wars" mashups aren't exactly a rarity, but excellent parodies are a bit harder to come by. Today brings one such more-than-worthy entry, and just in time for the holidays!

The folks at OneMinuteGalactica (via Blastr) discovered a video called "The Sith who Stole Christmas," combining two of pop culture's all-time greatest villains—Darth Vader and The Grinch—into one wonderful mashup.

You can check it out here, and keep reading for our very own "Star Wars" meets Dr. Seuss mashup, courtesy of MTV News' very own Tami Katzoff.

This week has been absolutely brimming with new material from "John Carter," and today's obligatory release has arrived -- and they are both vaguely reminiscent of "Star Wars."

Yesterday, the second trailer premiered, and photos and posters have been sent out at a dizzying pace over the past week. Now, three new banners for the sci-fi epic show off some of the scenes from the just-released trailer.

We see John Carter facing off with not one, but two white apes in the the surprisingly "Attack of the Clones"-esque Colosseum. Taylor Kitsch as the legendary Civil War captain transported to Mars takes out one of the apes during the trailer, but a second ape could be another question.

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee Steinfeld is one lucky lady. After impressing audiences with "True Grit" last year, she missed out on being cast in "The Hunger Games" and has only been cast in relatively under-the-radar projects. But now all that is about to change.

Variety is reporting that Steinfeld is in talks to play Petra Arkanian in the upcoming adaptation of "Ender's Game." Petra is the most significant female character in the story, and also acts as Ender's right-hand woman. This would hands down be Steinfeld's biggest role to date if she ends up agreeing to it, and also would likely launch her into her first franchise.

This follows the news that Asa Butterfield will play Ender and Harrison Ford is being considered for the role of Colonel Hyrum Graff, which means the casting process is quickly getting underway.

Depending upon whether you're a bigger fan of film or television, Marion Cotillard could be the biggest name actor to come to Warner Bros' upcoming "Arthur & Lancelot."

The Academy Award-winning actress has been offered the role of Arthur's sorceress half-sister Morgana, according to Vulture. They're saying that she is now officially in the Warner Bros clubhouse thanks to her roles in "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises," which is likely why she's getting first pick at the role.

Cotillard would be joining "Game of Thrones's" Kit Harrington and "The Killing's" Joel Kinnaman as the titular Arthur and Lancelot.
