FROM MTV MOVIES: After our nods to rising stars Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston, MTV Movies' Thankful Week continues with — drum roll, please — the actor we're most thankful for in 2011: Daniel Radcliffe.

Really, what's not to like about this talented young man? He's dazzled audiences for more than a decade as "the boy who lived" in eight "Harry Potter" films and has most recently been the talk of the Great White Way with his critically acclaimed work in the musical "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying." We feel pretty confident in saying that the future looks bright for this guy.

Daniel Radcliffe discusses his fantastic year!

MTV News recently caught up with Radcliffe to get a sense of how he's feeling post-Potter and where he wants to be in 10 years.

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" is like nothing you've ever seen from the Oscar-winning filmmaker before — and that's a very good thing. Set in Paris in the 1930s, Scorsese's 3-D adventure film centers on Hugo Cabret, a young orphan living a secret life in the walls of a train station where he steals croissants for food and gadgets for a mysterious project he's working on in his spare time. But when Hugo encounters the enigmatic owner of the train station's toy shop, the young boy's purpose finally comes into focus.

A beautifully shot coming-of-age tale that doubles as a love letter to cinema, "Hugo" is one of the best movies of the holiday season, and one of Scorsese's all-time finest efforts. Check out five reasons why you need to see this film after the jump.

The villain of "Star Trek 2" remains unknown, though director J.J. Abrams certainly has his eye on someone for the role: Oscar-winning actor Benicio del Toro. It's still up in the air as to who BDT might play in the "Trek" sequel, assuming he comes on board at all, but Abrams confirmed to MTV News that he's very much interested in bringing the "Traffic" actor on board for his next interstellar voyage.

"Well, we're just in negotiations, we're in discussions," Abrams told us on the red carpet for the "Super 8" Blu-ray and DVD release in Los Angeles. "It's not even negotiations — just in discussion. But I would love to work with him. I've wanted to work with him for years, and this felt like a good opportunity."

If you head out to theaters this weekend to see "The Muppets" (and believe me, you should), you'll be treated to a rare opportunity when Jason Segal and his writing partner and director of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," Nicholas Stoller, deliver a big screen "welcome back" for the famous troupe of puppets.

It's no spoiler to say that the Muppets have to throw an old-fashioned, but big screen, edition of "The Muppet Show," something older fans of the franchise are sure to love. But when it came time to write the sketches for the show, the team unfortunately couldn't fit all the ideas they had originally thought up.

Jeremy Renner

This is a big year coming up for Jeremy Renner. He has a major role in the upcoming "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol," is one of the titular superheroes in "The Avengers" and is also launching a new branch of the Jason Bourne franchise. The latter is arguably his biggest project in the future, and the one we know least about. Fortunately, he dished some pretty big details in a recent interview.

When promoting "Ghost Protocol" with Empire magazine, Renner shared that his character in "The Bourne Legacy" will be named Aaron Cross, at least to start. "He ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new programme and new characters," he said. "It's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash.

Some of last week's biggest news came on Friday (Nov 18), when Deadline reported that "Hugo" star Asa Butterfield was offered the lead role in Gavin Hood's "Ender's Game" adaptation.

When MTV News sat down with Butterfield while he was promoting "Hugo," the young actor was tight-lipped on where his status with the project stood, simply stating that he could "possibly" star in the long-anticipated sci-fi film.

Butterfield would admit to reading both the book and the script by Hood and "Star Trek" collaborators Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. "I have read the book. I love the book. It's just a great book. I've read the script as well," Butterfield said.

Judging by the early promotions for Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows," it should come as no surprise that the "Edward Scissorhands" director is going back to his gothic roots in this film. The remake of the cult classic TV series stars all his regular actors and, judging by the set photos released, is a return to form for Burton after "Alice in Wonderland" and "Sweeney Todd." That's why it should come as no surprise that leading lady Chloe Moretz is thrilled to be working on the film with him, especially because Burton is her dream director.

"It straddles the typical Burton line: camp and drama," Moretz explained. "This is a really good role for Johnny [Depp] I think because he totally sold it because it's so weird. It's such a weird character and he can do weird. He does so much with his hands."

John Neville

British actor John Neville passed away late last week at the age of 86. Theater buffs might remember him as a respected Shakespearean actor who appeared in every one of the Bard’s plays; movie mavens might know him from his starring role in Terry Gilliam’s “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen."

But to me, John Neville was and always will be The Well-Manicured Man.

If you’re not an X-Phile I have a bit of explanation for you (we can discuss exactly why you’re not an X-Phile some other time): On Chris Carter’s groundbreaking TV show “The X-Files,” John Neville played one of several nameless recurring characters (the most infamous being Cigarette Smoking Man). CSM and Well-Manicured Man were members of the Syndicate, an international group of super-secretive movers and shakers who tried to thwart the efforts of FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in their search for the truth about extra-terrestrials.
