FROM MTV MOVIES: The characters in the fairy tales you grew up listening to are people too. That's a big part of the story behind ABC's fantasy series "Once Upon a Time." From the minds of former "Lost" writers and producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, "Once Upon a Time" follows the lives of a number of storybook characters who find themselves trapped in the real world after a curse is placed on them.

Jennifer Morrison ("Warrior") stars as Emma Swan, the woman tasked with saving the fairy-tale world and bringing back the happy endings. Morrison says that there's much more to the series than the familiar faces, like Snow White, and that the show is about something bigger and much more relatable.

"It's relationship driven. There is this sort of underlying universal thing," Morrison said. "We're in a time in our lives where the economy's kind of tough and jobs are tough, a lot of struggles people are facing. In a sense, our show really represents that in the curse that is on the characters and the hope that there is a way out, that you can band together and find a way out."

Afraid or not, it looks like no amount of fear can keep the people away from "Paranormal Activity 3." The latest installment in the found footage horror franchise hit movie theaters over the weekend and scared up a box office record for highest fall opening ever (September/October) with a staggering $54 million total.

"Paranormal Activity 3" also secured the record for best opening for a pure horror movie, previously held by -- you guessed it -- "Paranormal Activity 2," which debuted last year with $40.7 million. Clearly, we'll have more haunted "Activity" in our moviegoing futures.

Ben Affleck is looking at “The Stand,” and Warner Brothers is standing behind him.

Deadline broke the news on Friday that Affleck is the WB's choice to adapt the massive Stephen King novel, marking the first big announcement about the long-in-development project since August. Last we checked in, "The Stand" was rumored to be helmed by none other than David Yates of "Harry Potter" fame, but this, it seems, is no longer the case.

"Immortals Mondays" continues today with an exclusive behind the scenes look at Poseidon, the trident-wielding god played by "Twilight" favorite Kellan Lutz.

Describing his character as "the favorite uncle," Lutz explained that the god of the sea has been commanded by his brother Zeus (Luke Evans) not to interfere with the matters of men. Poseidon has a hard time adhering to this order, of course, leading him to spearhead one of the most visually breathtaking moments in the entirety of Tarsem Singh's mythological epic. Take a glimpse in the video below.

In addition to the exclusive video, we also have details on an "Immortals" sweepstakes. The Gods need a Hometown Hero, and MTV is looking for one man or woman to assemble their troops for a private hometown screening of "Immortals." Click here to find out how to enter!

If you haven't heard this one creeping around the 'net by now, you're in for a treat. Last week, "Anonymous" actor Rhys Ifans swung by MTV News HQ to chat about his new Roland Emmerich movie, but didn't leave without offering up some serious goods on "The Amazing Spider-Man." Ifans stars in the superhero movie as the villainous Lizard, and he offered us a terrifying taste of what his scaly creature might sound like when the movie hits in 2012.

Paranormal Activity 3

The third installment in the "Paranormal Activity" franchise creeps into theaters this weekend. To get you ready for supernatural chills, there's a sixth viral clip that's been released. "Catfish" directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman direct the film that finds a young Katie (from the first and second films), and her sister Kristi battling evil.

The newest clip shows more found footage, set at night in the bedroom. Paramount has stuck with their grassroots, viral marketing campaign for the film since Oren Peli's 2007 movie. Mysterious VHS tapes — simply labeled with the date, 1988 — were passed around to various websites, revealing similar found footage. See what terror this one contains by clicking right here.

Uncharted

Ed Zwick is best known for his directorial work on "Glory," "The Last Samurai," and "Defiance." If there's a consistent theme running through the films, it's the concept of heroics, people placed into situations where they are forced to muster up their will in the face of adversity. So, who better to produce a short film about heroism (in relation to Sony's upcoming "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" game)?

Speaking to Empire, Zwick stated that he wasn't much of a gamer, but he was intrigued by the idea of talking to a number of different people – all associated with the game in some manner – and asking them to define what heroism means.
