"Moneyball," directed by Bennett Miller and starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, slides into theaters this weekend, telling the true story of the 2002 Oakland Athletics season.

Pitt stars as Billy Beane, a former Major League Baseball player who now serves as general manager of the A's in a time of turmoil: the team has lost three of its star players, and lacks the proper funding to compete against the big boys back east. But where there's a will, there's a way, and with the help of newly appointed assistant general manager Peter Brand (played by Jonah Hill), Beane milks a bad situation for all it's worth and forms a competitive team out of virtually nothing.

Though not quite a grand slam, "Moneyball" certainly wins the game with a must-see effort for any and all fans of the sports drama. Check out five reasons to see "Moneyball" past the jump.

On Thursday night, "The Office" fans finally learned who would be heading up the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. James Spader's creepy, kooky Robert California would act as CEO and Ed Helms' bumbling, well-meaning Andy is now the new Michael Scott.

Fans learned that after Robert staged a coup and pushed out Kathy Bates' Jo Bennett out as CEO, he then hired Andy to helm Scranton. But, he hasn't gone far. While Andy sits in Michael's old office, Robert does all his work from the conference room. Clive Owen is convinced his character in "Killer Elite" isn't the bad guy in this spy-thriller-meets-popcorn-action-flick production. Jason Statham's hero, as he gets his face bloodily pounded in by Owen's menacing presence, might argue otherwise, but we're certainly not going to argue with either of these gentleman.

"Whenever I play a part in a film, I never think he is the bad guy," Owen told MTV News. "You have to always find a reason and understand why he's doing what he's doing."

Fair enough. And sure, Owen (Oscar nominee that he is) did his big-screen due diligence, taking what might have been a villain on the page and transforming him into, at the very least, a bad guy certain of his noble intentions. But the actor also admitted, perhaps with less than a shred of truth, that his conception of Spike (the leader of a team of hit men targeting Statham and other ex-special ops agents), began and ended with facial hair.

Guillermo del Toro has come a long way since 1997's "Mimic," a movie about a genetically engineered breed of insect called the Judas Breed that feasts on humans and can copy their appearance and behavior in stunning fashion. But even with films like "Pan's Labyrinth" and the "Hellboy" movies to his name, the legacy of "Mimic" remains: two direct-to-video sequels have been produced, and now a brand new director's cut is coming to Blu-ray on September 27.

The "Mimic" director's cut, featuring seven minutes of restored footage and a wealth of never-before-seen featurettes, certainly boasts a vision of the movie that you've yet to see. But even if it had seen the light of day previously, del Toro would likely argue that the movie has changed — or, at least, you have changed.

In this exclusive look at one of the "Mimic" Blu-ray's featurettes, del Toro speaks about the nature of storytelling and life, an ever-flowing river that necessitates the steady stream of endless change. For GDT fans, this is can't miss material; give it a watch and see for yourself.

FROM MTV MOVIES: We've got a load of questions about Robert Pattinson's "Cosmopolis," chief among them how director David Cronenberg intends to adapt a novel, penned by postmodern wizard Don DeLillo, which takes place in one day, largely within one traffic-stalled limousine.

It all makes sense on the page, with so much of the action in this novel of ideas taking place in the head of Eric Packer, a young and rich asset manager who every so often hops out of his ride to sleep with women and get into violent confrontations with menacing strangers. But how all this plays out — and how strictly Cronenberg, who also penned the script, sticks to the source material — remains to be seen.

If we can read into co-star Paul Giamatti's recent comments to MTV News, it seems the film and book will retain one key similarity: It's all about Packer.

Have you ever been so relieved that no matter what else is going on in your life, no matter how hectic your day, you pause and breathe and everything is just right?

That is how I feel right now. Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly unveiled an official first look at the full cast of Tim Burton's hotly anticipated big screen take on the classic Gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows," and coming just weeks after paparazzi shots of star Johnny Depp looking ghastly and weird in heavy white makeup leaked online and sparked a massive (and generally negative) fan response, the image is a sight for sore eyes.

The previously released "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trailer remains one of the most memorable bits of movie marketing this year, teasing the arrival of the feel-bad movie of the holiday season. But if you thought that trailer was cool, just wait — you haven't seen anything yet.

A brand new "Dragon Tattoo" trailer has arrived online, clocking in at an astonishing three minutes and 46 seconds. This time around, the in-your-face quick cuts are played down in favor of a much more cohesive look at the movie's plot and a clearer picture of the two leads, disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist and punk hacker Lisbeth Salander, who is different in "every way," according to her boss Dragan Armonsky.

Patrick WilsonWe still don't know much about Ridley Scott's new "Alien"-themed film, "Prometheus." Only that it's not a prequel, has an A-list cast, that the production has people feeling "nervous," and that a nondescript photo was released.

Thanks to a recent chat with cast member Patrick Wilson, on a break from filming his new TV drama "A Gifted Man," however, MTV News has learned that the Damon Lindelof and John Spaihts-penned screenplay really IS that bloody good, and that we're going to be plenty satisfied with what we see on the big screen come June 2012.

When "Moneyball" hits theaters this weekend, you'll see just how good Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill's characters really are when it comes to figuring out the game of baseball. But how do these actors hold up in a very different game… the most important game… the game known all the world over as The Yes/No Show?

We put their honesty skills to the test in our latest edition of After Hours at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month. Watch the video to see if either Brad or Jonah have sex tapes, whether or not "Jersey Shore" is a regularly viewed program in the Pitt-Jolie household, and much more!

Kristen Stewart fans take note: there's another Jack Kerouac project in the works. Stewart and crew are taking the author's novel "On The Road" to the big screen, while Kate Bosworth and a less tween-friendly cast are going deep into the Kerouac catalogue for their film, an adaptation of his story, "Big Sur."

Expected to be released next year, the film revolves around the author's time spent at his cabin in Big Sur before his death. In addition to Bosworth, it also stars Josh Lucas, Anthony Edwards and Balthazar Getty, to name a few.

When MTV News caught up with Kate at her NYC premiere for "Straw Dogs," she explained why she was so drawn to the project.

"Well I mean I love Kerouac," she said. "'Big Sur' is fascinating. It's quite different from his other material. It's a beast that book and the film felt like a beast to tackle."
