Big news for sci-fi fans: Ridley Scott has finally taken the wraps off his far-too-secretive-for-my-tastes science fiction opus, "Prometheus." And what an opus it is! For far too long we at MTV News, -- not to mention the entire world at large -- have been wondering, just what is "Prometheus" all about, "Alien" DNA aside?
Is it a direct "Alien" prequel? Will it tell us who the masters of the massive downed spacecraft the crew of the Nostromo find in the original “Alien” were? Well, it looks like the answers to both questions remain unanswered, but "Prometheus" could still very well blow our minds with the origins of mankind, and the fate of the universe.
Check out the official synopsis below if you don’t believe me.
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Wow, just wow. I guess Patrick Wilson wasn’t lying when he told us “Prometheus” would blow our minds. Consider mine blown. But I am curious, what is there to learn about the origins of mankind we don’t already know? What key piece of information does the team find that flies in the face of everything we know about evolution? And most importantly, how does this lead them to the far corners of the universe?
Lastly of course, what alien race will the crew inevitably encounter to battle for the survival of humanity? June 2012 cannot come soon enough, and I am currently hard at work on a time machine that can take me there. If I am successful, you’ll be the first to hear my review.
