Brett RatnerBrett Ratner might not have been the choice Hollywood was expecting when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their producer for the 2012 Oscars, but he certainly is an interesting one.

But the "Tower Heist" director has been known for his large-scale films, and the very elements of his filmmaking that have drawn fire from skeptics might be exactly what the Oscars need this year. Ratner, for his part, thinks he can bring something special to the biggest night in Tinseltown, something he's been complaining has been lacking in previous years. And with the failed attempt at drawing in a younger audience by hiring Anne Hathaway and James Franco as hosts last year, it seems like the Academy is seeking an alternate route.

So what can we expect Ratner to contribute to the awards show? We brainstormed a few things we hope happen at this year's event.

Bruce Campbell"Oz: The Great And Powerful" just got a heck of a lot more exciting now that Bruce Campbell has announced he's been cast in it.

"I. Am. In. Oz. Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL," the "Burn Notice" actor tweeted. Considering James Franco has already been cast as the titular wizard-to-be and Campbell likely isn't playing one of the female witches, our guess is he plays some sort of mentor to Oz. Or we could be totally surprised and he'll end up playing a Munchkin or flying monkey. Regardless, we're thrilled by this casting news.

Check out the rest of Hollywood's casting updates after the jump!

Hunger GamesIf you had any doubts about the upcoming "Hunger Games" adaptation, you might have to prepare to put them away: Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is reportedly heading behind the "HG" camera, which would mean things are about to get really, really interesting. Or so we hear.

Two members of "Hunger Games" crew tweeted earlier that the filmmaker will be acting as second unit director on "Hunger Games." The Playlist subsequently confirmed the reports with unnamed sources.

However, now both Twitter accounts have been deactivated and said tweets are nowhere to be seen. So did the crew members speak too soon about Soderbergh's involvement? Was it just a wild rumor started by some hopeful fans? Or is Soderbergh actually a part of the movie? We'll have to wait for an official report to find out. Emails to Lionsgate, the studio behind the project, were not immediately returned.

Can you imagine waking up to find you’ve switched bodies with someone? Of course you can -- we’ve seen it happen in "Freaky Friday," "Like Father Like Son," and now "The Change-Up." Even the film’s star Jason Bateman joked on Jon Stewart this week by saying, “it is a tired, some would say pleasantly familiar premise.”

Isn’t that everyone’s dream to take a walk in someone else’s shoes only to realize you totally misjudged their life and have a new appreciation for your own? Let’s hope Hollywood continues riding the Point-Of-View wave, but why limit them to human swaps? Can’t we learn even more from swapping with another being rather than our own kind?

Yesterday, MTV Movies Blog editor Josh Wigler came up with five fictional characters he’d like to most switch places with. [Editor's Note: Sorry about that. -JW] And now here are five movies that could have main characters switch lives with a non-human!

When "Rise of The Planet of the Apes" swings into theaters this weekend, audiences may be surprised by it’s cutting edge special effects, but they won’t be surprised by how it ends.

Unless James Franco is pulling a huge James Franco-esqe prank, when the credits roll, apes will have risen and taken over the planet. While this title-spoiler may seem like a unique phenomenon, we’ve counted at least six titles that have done the unthinkable and given away their own ending. Check ‘em out after the jump.

Ever wonder how loveable funny guy Seth Rogen was transformed into a big-headed, small green alien in this year's "Paul"? Well, thanks to this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip MTV News has from the "Paul" DVD, you can find out (the disc, the Blu-ray and the On Demand film arrive August 9th).

Stars and co-writers Nick Frost and Simon Pegg explain the footage shown in the video, which feature samples of an early edit where the character Paul was just Rogen's floating head from his separate rehearsals. It was a way for the crew to get a sense of Rogen's role in the movie, even though he wasn't acting it out.

"Seth is the character, so they've shot him in rehearsal with various angles, with the other actors, but we've just got to put him into the scenes," explained editor Chris Dickens. "Essentially, I've just used the rehearsal and I've just put him in a little box."

In case you're not aware, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman are both funny men in their own right. Put them together and you get comedic fireworks, a fact that Universal is banking on when their new raunchy comedy "The Change-Up" bows in theaters this weekend.

Now, in knowing the talents and rapier wit that both Reynolds and Bateman possess, one must approach an interview with them differently like, say, armed with some visual aids that depict Reynolds and Bateman photoshopped into each other's previous film roles. Naturally their reactions were priceless:

At long last, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" swings into theaters, delivering a reboot that hopes to do to the "Apes" series what "Batman Begins" did to the DC Comics franchise. In many ways, it hits that benchmark. In other, more human ways, it doesn't quite measure up. But despite its flaws, the high points of "Apes" are so above and beyond the lows that there's almost no reason for popcorn movie enthusiasts to skip out on this latest summer crowd pleaser.

In case you're still on the fence, click past the jump to check out five reasons why you should see the newest "Planet of the Apes."

From "Wedding Crashers" to "Fred Claus" to "The Change-Up" to, "King Arthur?" My first reaction upon learning that the successful director of comedies, David Dobkin, is making a "King Arthur" movie was suspicion, to be honest. I had instant flashbacks to my first viewing of the ridiculousness that was "First Knight," which for me was a huge disappointment. Call me old fashioned, but I like my medieval movies to be seriously medieval, not sarcastically so. Save for "Monty Python and The Holy Grail," which people should stop trying to recreate *cough* "Your Highness" *cough.*

But I digress. Anyway! When MTV News caught up with the man with a plan at the premiere of his raunchy Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman-starring comedy earlier this week, I asked him to give us some details about his take on the tale of the oft romanticized historical British leader.

"I'm starting prep on a King Arthur movie for Warner Brothers," Dobkin said. "We start shooting in January."
