News that "Blade Runner" might be headed back to the multiplex in sequel or prequel form was met, at least in an MTV Movies Blog poll last March, with a mixture of excitement, derision, and "Meh, let's wait and see" ambivalence.

I'm conflicted myself, though producers behind the effort seem to be hitting all the right notes, saying they'll avoid executive suite-driven micromanagement and will model their approach to the material on the way Christopher Nolan handled "Batman." All good things! But it would certainly help matters if "Blade Runner" star Harrison Ford would cosign the new films and perhaps even take part in the sci-fi madness.

That's what we were wondering when we sat down with Ford late last week at a "Cowboys & Aliens" press event in Montana. He was tight-lipped (not to mention bemused when I embarrassingly, inexcusably mispronounced the name of his "Blade Runner" character, Rick Deckard; nerd mea culpa!), but the takeaway is that he's certainly been in touch with producers.

Coming Soon reports that the "Potter" star and "Pacific Rim" director are uniting for a new big screen spin on "Beauty and the Beast," with Watson playing the titular beauty. Discussions are still in their early stages, but we're psyched to see what these two powerhouses create together.

Anyone who saw "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" over the weekend -- and a lot of you have, based on the "Potter" box office returns -- would be hard pressed to not be moved by the emotional Snape's memory sequence.

Apparently it was no easier to edit for director David Yates than it was for us to sit in the theaters without tears trickling down our cheeks. Yates told MTV News that the scene was originally a lot longer and more linear, but he felt that cutting it down and shaping it differently lent itself to the movie much more.

"It didn't feel quite like a memory. It wasn’t quite evocative enough," Yates said. "I think we were telling too much story basically, so by fragmenting it, it just became oddly more moving ultimately."

Harry PotterFROM MTV MOVIES: With the swift decisiveness of a magic wand, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" vanquished several box-office records over the weekend. The final and best-reviewed entry in the Potter franchise now holds the record for biggest first day and biggest opening weekend (both domestically and across the world) and helped push the franchise past the $2 billion mark.

The eighth "Harry Potter" movie took in $92.1 million in North America on Friday and went on to earn a weekend total of $168.5 million, according to studio estimates. The new "Potter" film's box-office gross topped those of previous record holders like "The Dark Knight" and "Spider-Man 3," although it trailed them in attendance. "Deathly Hallows Part 2" ranked sixth overall when it comes to number of tickets sold.

Over 3100 locations offered the film in 3-D (the largest 3-D rollout ever) but only 43 percent of audiences chose to see the film that way, offering another example of moviegoers' 3-D fatigue.

Tom CruiseTom Cruise's next few years have just turned significantly busier, thanks to his deciding to sign on to the adaptation of Lee Child's novel "One Shot."

Deadline has the news, saying that director Christopher McQuarrie will helm the flick. Cruise is currently filming "Rock of Ages," and will move on to "One Shot" in early fall. With “Deathly Hallows Part 2” officially out in theaters, fans are finally saying goodbye to "Harry Potter," the decade-long film series that brought J.K. Rowling’s novels to life. The closing epilogue sequence will be an emotional farewell for fans and actors alike but for Rupert Grint, who became famous for his portrayal of Ron Weasley, it was a “weird scene to film.”

He is referring of course to the careful combination of make-up and computer effects that -- SPOILER ALERT, by the way -- ages Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Draco by a full 19 years. “I mean the images of me still haunt me,” he stated, “It was like this monster/Donald Trump kind of mixture, it was very scary.” Apparently, Grint wasn’t the only one who was a little unsettled by the results.

Harry PotterThe end of an era is here with today's release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." To mark the occasion, MTV News presents our list of the ten best scenes in the entire film franchise, with the exception of scenes from the most recent installment of "Deathly Hallows" -- we're keeping things spoiler-free, naturally. Here are our top ten scenes in chronological order. Let us know your favorite scenes in the comments section!

Welcome to Hogwarts ("Sorcerer's Stone)"
The look of wonder that blossoms over Harry's face when he initially sees Hogwarts was echoed on the face of every other "Potter" fan sitting in the theater when they saw "Sorcerer's Stone" for the first time, and that pivotal scene remains iconic even a decade after its release. Hogwarts is as much a character in the "Harry Potter" series as Harry, Voldemort and Snape, but it is more than that as well. As author J.K. Rowling says, it will always be there to welcome fans home.
