You'll probably shed a tear learning that Ron Howard's "Dark Tower" adaptation was slashed by Universal, but news that the long-awaited "Cabin in the Woods" – from "Cloverfield" writer Drew Goddard, who co-wrote the screenplay with "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon – is finally getting a release date should quicken your pulse. Friday the 13th in 2012 is going to be a memorable year for the horror spoof about a group of friends who hit the woods for some R&R, but end up fighting for their lives (snarky style).

Peter Jackson announced on Facebook this week that, sadly, "The Hobbit" won't have a presence at this year's convention because "there's so much more of the films to shoot." That said, he expects the two-part "Lord of the Rings" prequel "will be there in full force next year."

Now for the good news — in lieu of an official Comic-Con presence, Jackson has posted yet another of his highly entertaining video production diaries from the set of "The Hobbit," this time offering an extraordinary amount of insight into the dwarf creation process as well as revealing a surprising amount of the film's greatest reveals.

The Julianne Moore fans out there know that the very talented, award-winning actress can do almost anything she wants. Her dramatic work is aces, to be sure, but that guest stint on "30 Rock" was amazing. Anyway, speaking of characters with pronounced accents, Moore recently wrapped filming "Game Change," the HBO movie based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin's best-selling book of the same name, in which Moore plays famous former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

When MTV News caught up with the actress recently, during the press day for "Crazy Stupid Love," we asked her about the challenges associated with portraying such a famous personality.

"It was hard, really, really hard," she admitted. "I had a great director, Jay Roach who was incredible. I adored him, [he was] so supportive, so smart. I did a lot of research, I worked really hard. It's hard to play someone who is very present in people's minds, who's on television, very idiosyncratic, I did my best. We'll see, I hope we pulled it off."

50/50Although it's still summertime and we're in the midst of crazy blockbuster madness, there is a special movie coming down the pike that people should start paying attention to now: "50/50," a dramedy inspired by real life events that features the wonderful acting talents of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Anjelica Huston and Bryce Dallas Howard.

In addition to having the privilege of catching an advanced screening of the film, MTV News was lucky enough to chat with director Jonathan Levine (who you should know from his excellent work on "The Wackness" - queue it up in Netflix stat, if you haven't seen it) about this special story and the film's recently-released one sheet.

"It takes a pair to beat the odds," reads the tagline above Gordon-Levitt shaving his head in front of a mirror, with Rogen wearing a quizzical/uncomfortable expression in the background.
