Severus Snape has endured a turbulent arc throughout the "Harry Potter" series, but when it comes to the Harry Potter World Cup, he's been coasting by just fine. But all of that is likely to change now that he's up against fan-favorite character Dobby the House Elf, the one creature standing between the Potions master and the Elite Eight.
Voting for all Sweet 16 duels closes on Wednesday, July 6 at 12:01 AM EST, so make sure to start voting now. You can follow all of the action right here.
(2) Severus Snape vs. (6) Dobby the House Elf
This isn't an easy choice. Dobby's a clear fan-favorite, having sacrificed his life for Harry in a moment of great need. That said, Snape essentially did the exact same thing — despite his icy demeanor, the Slytherin wizard lived and died for the Boy Who Lived thanks to the love he had in his heart for Harry's mother. Two characters, both of them adored by the vast majority of "Potter" fandom. Alas, only one can survive into the next round… who's it going to be?

After nearly two full weeks of competition, the Harry Potter World Cup's original pool of 64 characters has thinned down to the Sweet 16 — and among the wizards and witches still remaining in the competition is none other than the titular contender, Harry himself. The Boy Who Lived was always a sure bet to go deep in the World Cup, but how is he going to fare when pressed up against another Chosen One?

(1) Harry Potter vs. (4) Neville Longbottom
If Neville's breathtaking finish in his duel against McGonagall isn't enough proof of his worthiness in this competition, nothing is. Neville has one of the fullest arcs of any character in the entirety of "Potter," starting as a meek and socially incapable boy who transformed himself into a serpent-slaying hero by story's end. That said, are those accomplishments enough to defeat the Boy Who Lived? After all, this is Harry's story, not to mention the fact that the tournament is named after him. Still, someone has to defeat Harry eventually, unless he truly is predestined to win this whole thing. When it comes to the World Cup, could Neville Longbottom be the Chosen One after all, or can we already write this one off as another win for Harry?

And if you're still not sure about who to vote for, don't forget that Matthew Lewis has a pretty convincing pro-Neville argument for you.

It shouldn't surprise you that "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" has some pretty big action set pieces, but the one that has all of the cast talking is the epic sequence when leads Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Tyrese Gibson end up having to slide down the side of a building.
MTV News caught up with the cast in Moscow recently and asked the movie's stars what it was like shooting that scene. As expected, it was exhilarating, scary and even death-defying. But first, some set-up.
"In order to take out a Decepticon, you have to take their vision out first. So part of that, taking out the vision, is you've got to get altitude that allows you to get the proper eyesight, the proper sight line," LaBeouf explained. "So in order for us to get the right sightline with our snipers, we have to get into this building."

Anita Lindblom, prepare to get the "Twilight" treatment under the hands of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."
Director Catherine Hardwicke will direct Noomi Rapace's as-yet-untitled biopic of '60s Swedish pop culture icon Anita Lindblom. To make things even more interesting, Rapace's real-life husband, Ola Rapace, will play boxing champion Bosse Hogberg who ends up marrying Lindblom.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Rapaces have been developing the flick for several years, and it's slated for a Scandinavian release in 2012.
In the news after the jump, "World War Z" loses its leads, a comedian joins Ben Stiller in "Neighborhood Watch," and Chris Rock teaches fathers "What To Expect When You're Expecting."

Whether you’ve already seen “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” – the highly-anticipated third installment of Michael Bay’s epic action franchise – or you’re planning to check it out over the holiday weekend, you’re probably already aware of the film’s general premise.
No, we’re not talking about Autobots versus Decepticons versus Shia LaBeouf, with a hot chick thrown in the mix. Though it’s got that, too. We’re referring to the fact that the movie re-imagines the history of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, presuming that – instead of a science-based plight – a highly secretive mission was forged to investigate a mysterious robot-laden spacecraft that crashed on the lunar surface one year prior to Neil Armstrong’s infamous “one small step.”
This got us thinking about moon landing conspiracy theories. So we contacted Roger Launius, Senior Curator of Space History at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Not only does Roger have a Ph.D. in history, but he’s been an aerospace historian since 1982, and he was a NASA chief historian between 1990 and 2002 before joining the Smithsonian in 2002. He’s also written or edited over 20 books about aerospace history.
Roger’s insights about the nature of historical conspiracy theories, the psyche behind them, and the way that Hollywood gets it right (and wrong) are completely fascinating.
Wow. If there's another word that better describes the results of the Harry Potter World Cup's second round, I haven't heard of it. After one tough week and over a million votes cast, the dust has finally settled and only 16 wizards and witches are still alive and kicking... though even after the polls closed, two races were still too close to call judging solely by percentages. We have the final tally for both battles, and can declare winners in just a few moments.
But first, as always, before looking forward at the Sweet 16, let's look back on the greater scope of round two. After the jump, find out who won, who lost, and which two contestants were a handful of votes away from moving onto the next round of the World Cup.
