"Wonder Woman" didn't work out for Adrianne Palicki, but she'll have her shot at another franchise very soon.
Deadline reports that "Friday Night Lights" favorite is joining "G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes" as Lady Jaye, the longtime love interest of fellow Joe hero Flint (played in the sequel by D.J. Cotrona). She'll star alongside the returning Channing Tatum and Ray Park, as well as new additions Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and RZA. Further, there are rumors that Bruce Willis is joining the team as Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe.
Check out the rest of today's biggest casting news past the jump, including some further rumblings from your next voyage to Middle-Earth!

FROM MTV MOVIES: There's no hiding the success of the "robots in disguise" franchise: "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" enjoyed the highest-grossing Fourth of July film debut ever over the weekend. Summer sequel mania was in full swing over the Independence Day holiday as the latest "Transformers" movie took in an estimated $97.5 million. "Transformers" beat the 2011 opening-weekend record previously set by "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which just crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Director Michael Bay's third installment in the "Transformers" series took in more than $180 million during its six-day opening, which started with Tuesday night previews. While it beat the Independence Day record held by "Spider-Man 2" thanks to inflation and 3-D screenings, it fell short of the superhero sequel in terms of overall attendance and far behind the last "Transformers" opening as well. Only 38 percent of major critics found the film favorable, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
Last weekend's big sequel, "Cars 2," suffered from the largest second-week drop in Pixar's history. The talking-car-centered animated kid flick fell 60 percent to #2 with an estimated $26.2 million, with an 11-day total of $123 million. Cameron Diaz's "Bad Teacher" was #3 on the box-office chart with $14.5 million for an 11-day total of $59.9 million.

One of the most exciting bits of TV development news to come along in recent months is the announcement that HBO and Playtone are developing Neil Gaiman's beloved "American Gods" to the small screen via an episodic television series.
When MTV News caught up with Playtone head honcho Tom Hanks recently during the press day for "Larry Crowne," which opened on Friday (July 1), we asked him for an "American Gods" update, and how he and Playtone got involved with the project.
"I don't know anything about 'American Gods,'" he admitted. "I have the book. I just now have it and it's on my summer reading list because people at my company came in foaming at the mouth about 'American Gods' and the possibility of being able to do it. So I said, 'Uuh, okay, let's go! Let's go!' So I'm playing catch-up on 'American Gods,' which is going to be a pleasant job."

Some say that revenge is a dish best served cold. Sirius says it's a dish best served Black. Having defeated his own cousin in an appropriately tight race, the wrongfully convicted Prisoner of Azkaban returns to the Harry Potter World Cup and has his sights set on Lord Voldemort, the evil sorcerer who just finished killing James Potter for a second time. The blood's about to spill...

(2) Lord Voldemort vs. (3) Sirius Black
Tom Riddle, you disappoint me. Sure, you were able to move past Moaning Myrtle and James Potter to make it into the Sweet 16, but not without a serious amount of difficulty. I mean, really... beating James by only two votes? That's the best you can do? Maybe the Dark Lord isn't up to the task when it comes to the Harry Potter World Cup. He'll certainly have to step up his game if he's to stand a chance against Sirius Black, one of the most widely worshiped characters in all of "Potter" thanks to his skills as an animagus, his closeness to Harry and his parents, and his tragic demise in "Order of the Phoenix." The falsely accused but ultimately redeemed Sirius could very well be the man to put an end to Voldemort's reign of terror once and for all.

The second round duel between old foes Molly Weasley and Bellatrix Lestrange was easily one of the hardest fought battles of the entire Harry Potter World Cup. Now, the dust has cleared, and history has been rewritten: Bellatrix moves on to the next round of the tournament. But is the wicked witch's bloodbath about to end at the hands of Draco Malfoy?

(1) Draco Malfoy vs. (4) Bellatrix Lestrange
Despite his number one ranking, Slytherin student and longtime Potter rival Draco Malfoy hasn't had an easy go of it in the World Cup so far. He struggled against Peeves the Poltergeist and got off to a tough start against "Goblet of Fire" veteran Fleur Delacour. Now, he faces his toughest opponent yet in the form of Bellatrix. This could very well be the end of the line for Draco… unless you, the voters, rally behind the two-time MTV Movie Awards Best Villain.

The Cedric Factor continues well into the Sweet 16 now that the deceased Diggory has defeated Narcissa Malfoy, but is the pride of Hufflepuff about to enter his final duel? He's going up against Hagrid, the Hogwarts groundskeeper who has been a decisively fan-favorite character since the very beginning of "Potter." Madame Maxime and Narcissa Malfoy, he is not. Let the battle begin!

(2) Rubeus Hagrid vs. (3) Cedric Diggory
Although Cedric's still kicking in the Harry Potter World Cup, it's very possible that he's breaking out his wand for the very last time. Cedric narrowly defeated Narcissa in a 50.85% - 49.15% vote, hardly a blowout. "Potter" fans cried "conspiracy" in his last duel against the Slytherin witch, a notion that nearly knocked him out of the competition. Now, he's going up against one of the most beloved "Potter" characters of all time. On top of that, Hagrid has a score to settle -- Cedric did defeat Hagrid's lover Maxime in round one, after all. Some are expecting Hagrid to wipe the floor with Cedric in this latest duel. Others are predicting another Diggory victory. We'll find out soon enough which character is truly worthy of moving onto the Elite Eight.

The Harry Potter World Cup has had its brutal moments, particularly for the Weasley clan. The red-headed wizarding family has seen its own turned against each other round after round, and once again, we see two Weasley siblings — the only remaining twin, Fred, and Harry's best friend Ron — going up against each other on their quest for eternal World Cup glory.

(1) Ron Weasley vs. (4) Fred Weasley
Fred never had his twin brother's help to begin with, but now that George is out of the competition (which, I suppose, answers this lingering question), he's the only Weasley twin still standing — which is ironic on at least one spoilery level. But Fred's defied the odds before, and perhaps he can do it again as he steps into the ring against Ron Weasley, the Gryffindor hero that represents the heart of the "Potter" story in many fans' opinions. So, who do you vote for: the brother who means the most to the tale of Harry Potter, or the one who always makes us laugh? We'll find out shortly!

And just in case you want another reminder of how awesome the Weasley twins are (even if only one is still left standing), well, here you go:

They say there are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. When it comes to my very favorite "Harry Potter" character of all time, I'm currently at the bargaining stage for Remus Lupin as he enters this next duel against Professor Albus Dumbledore… but I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be moving onto depression very, very soon.

(2) Albus Dumbledore vs. (3) Remus Lupin
I think that even without my strong bias in place, most "Potter" fans will agree with me when I say that Remus Lupin is a fantastic character. He's cool, he's knowledgeable, he's tragic, he's heroic… he's the full package. Sadly for Remus, Albus Dumbledore is all of that and then some, especially in terms of overall importance to the greater "Potter" arc. Lupin and his supporters (aka me voting 100,000 times) will have to dig extremely deep if he's to stand a chance against the Hogwarts headmaster. But if Lupin has to leave the Cup, at least he goes out squaring off against the greatest wizard who ever lived. I can accept that defeat. For now, I'm content with knowing that an excellent battle is about to unfold.

For Harry Potter, it never hurts to be surrounded by beautiful women. But when it comes to the Harry Potter World Cup, it's significantly less enjoyable to watch two of the most beloved of these women — Hermione and Ginny — going wand to wand, with only one of them able to advance into the Elite Eight. Tough decisions lie ahead, muggles!

(1) Hermione Granger vs. (5) Ginny Weasley
In one corner stands Harry Potter's best friend, the smartest witch of her age. In the other is Harry Potter's true love, the witch who commands his heart. Which witch is it going to be: Hermione Granger, the young spell-caster we've known and cherished since "The Sorcerer's Stone," or Ginny Weasley, the onetime "Chamber of Secrets" victim turned cunning hero? We'll let you decide.
