Believe me, no one is more surprised than I am to see Remus Lupin in the Elite Eight. He's my personal favorite character in the series (did I mention he's the best?) but even I wouldn't have guessed that he'd beat Dumbledore in the Sweet 16. Despite that great and unexpected victory, Lupin's path towards eternal World Cup glory is far from finished: he'll have to sneak past the smartest wizard of her age in order to advance to the Final Four.

Polls for all of the Elite Eight duels close at 12:01 AM EST on Friday (July 8), so start voting now!

(1) Hermione Granger vs. (3) Remus Lupin
Days ago, I would have told you that Godric's Hollow was Hermione's for the taking, even if she'd gone up against Albus Dumbledore. Now, I'm less certain. Lupin didn't just beat Dumbledore by a handful of votes; he broke out with a healthy margin over the so-called greatest wizard of all time at the outset of their duel, and never looked back once. Hermione and her fans would be wise not to underestimate the appropriately rabid Lupin loyalists, who could put up quite a bit of resistance for one of Harry's closest friends.

He protected him in secret ever since the boy first set foot in Hogwarts, but that's not to say that Severus Snape always adored Harry Potter. Likewise, the Boy Who Lived had his fair share of problems with the Potions master over the years. Now, these longtime rivals turned unexpected allies have one last shot at each other, with only one wizard capable of moving onto the Final Four of the Harry Potter World Cup.

(1) Harry Potter vs. (2) Severus Snape
It's no surprise that either of these fan-favorite characters have made it this far into the tournament, but the outcome of this duel is anything but predictable. Yes, Harry is the main character of the series, and yes, his name inspires this very competition. But people love Snape, warts and all. Easily one of the most misunderstood heroes in all of "Potter" lore, chances are good that Severus gets more than a few sympathy votes here. Add too many of those to the pile, and Potter might have to watch the final rounds play out from the sidelines. The winner of Privet Drive is far from determined at this point.

With only a week and a half left until the final installment of "Harry Potter" hits theaters by way of "Deathly Hallows Part 2," it should come as no surprise that all eyes are on the young stars of the blockbuster franchise. Even Larry King's.

The longtime television and radio host has interviewed the cast and crew of the "Harry Potter" series for “CNN Presents: A Larry King Special – Harry Potter: The Final Chapter," which airs on July 10 at 8:00 PM EST, and we've got an exclusive first look at King's interview with leading lady Emma Watson. In the clip, the young actress looks back at her own evolution over the course of the decade-spanning "Potter" films.

"People literally have watched me grow up onscreen, like go from a nine-year-old girl to a 21-year-old... I guess I'm a young woman now," Watson noted about going up in front of the camera.

TransformersCould the "Transformers" franchise be getting a face lift, Jason Statham style?

That's the latest rumor swirling around Hollywood, according to ShowBizSpy. With "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" making bucket loads already, it seems almost a guarantee that a fourth "Transformers" movie will be made, but the gossip site is reporting that director Michael Bay and production company Paramount are looking for someone to lead the franchise in a "new, darker direction."

Statham certainly fits that bill (and we certainly have ideas for how he'd fit into the "Transformers" universe), but... is there any chance that this is actually going to happen? Right now, absolutely nothing is set in stone: no sequel has been officially greenlit, and definitely no one has been cast yet. But that's not to say that the "Transformers" crew aren't looking for a complete overhaul of the original cast to prevent the franchise from going stale. But there are a couple of other unconventional actors we could see fulfilling that order just as well as Statham. Check out our suggestions past the jump!

Captain JackThe tides are about to get stranger for Johnny Depp.

The Wrap reports that Depp is "close to a deal" for a fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean," surprising... well, nobody. The latest movie in the franchise, "On Stranger Tides," just passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, and Jerry Bruckheimer is rumored to be meeting intensively with writers to polish up the screenplay.

We can hardly imagine what shenanigans Captain Jack Sparrow will get into this time, but we're sure the masterminds at Disney have something clever up their sleeves.

In the news after the jump, some major comedians check in to "Hotel Transylvania," a "Zombieland" star thinks the sequel won't ever happen and a brilliant moviemaker signs Christopher Walken on as Zeus.

Longtime "Harry Potter" actor Matthew Lewis, who starred in all eight movies as the eternally loveable if severely underestimated Neville Longbottom, joined us last week to make his pitch for why he should win the Harry Potter World Cup. But Matthew had a lot more to say about the tournament than merely assessing his own character's standing.

With just a few hours left to vote in the Sweet 16, Matthew was kind enough to share his thoughts on some of this round's other contentious duels, just as the Phelps brothers did at the outset of the tournament. Read on to see which characters Matthew thinks will make it to the Elite Eight.

TransformersAmidst fireworks, barbeques, and a whole lot of celebrating America, it looks like a heck of a lot of you made it out to your nearest theater this Fourth of July weekend and watched "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." The final weekend box office tally is $97.5 million, not counting its full total since opening last Tuesday. That's a hefty chunk of change, as is the trend with the "Transformers" franchise.

It also got us thinking... what else could your "Transformers"-loving heart buy with that kind of cash? With the help of our highly capable research and analysis department (aka our rusty math skills), we've unearthed a whole bunch of merchandise in disguise that you wouldn't even dream of buying unless you had, say, an extra $97.5 million to blow.

You think you know Elijah Wood. But, to quote an old saying 'round these parts, you have no idea.

If you thought, for example, that he got all of his ring-created rage out of his system during "Lord of the Rings," you were wrong. Thought that "Sin City" gave him the great psychotic outlet he so desperately needed? Not so. No, Elijah most certainlly still has some mischief up his sleeve, as MTV's Josh Horowitz learned in the latest edition of After Hours.

The occasional Frodo Baggins, currently starring in FX's hilarious new comedy series "Wilfred," is a noted fan of our work here at MTV News, so he swung by to get the lowdown on what goes on here in the newsroom. Turns out, that's not the only reason he was here. Watch the video below and look into Wood's evil Eye of Sauron for yourself.
