In the end, Tyrion Lannister might win gold. Emmy gold, that is.
If you've caught any of our "Game of Thrones" coverage by now, then you know we're a bit hopelessly obsessed reasonably enamored with HBO's new fantasy series. In fact, working this week with "A Dance With Dragons," the latest installment in George R.R. Martin's epic, sitting unfinished at the edge of our desk unfinished has been a constant struggle.
Needless to say we're beyond thrilled that the show was not only nominated for an Emmy in the Best Drama category, but that Peter Dinklage earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor. He more than anyone else on that show deserves the nod at this point in time.
Dinklage is the odd man out on "Game of Thrones," and we aren't talking about his height. New Jersey born and bred, Dinklage has had to whip out his best British accent to blend seamlessly with the other actors on the show. And it's the fact that he manages to fit in so well but also be one of the most engaging actors on "Game of Thrones" that helps to set him apart from the rest of his costars.
Almost every person I've spoken to who watches "Game of Thrones" has the same two favorite characters: Maisie Williams' Arya, and Dinklage's Tyrion. Fans love Arya mostly because she is such a little spitfire who always manages to land on her feet (in fact, let's take a moment to cherish how wonderful a character she is), but there is something about Dinklage's performance that just makes Tyrion more. He started off as a great character in the books, but Dinklage brings a charm and charisma to the character that would not be there if a different actor played him.
Whether or not he wins the award, Dinklage's nomination for the role of Tyrion Lannister is an honor in and of itself. And who cares if he wins or loses this year -- with the "Clash of Kings" story line on the horizon, we see even bigger things in the actor's Emmy-nominated future.
Are you as glad Dinklage is nominated as we are? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!
