AvengersFROM MTV SPLASH PAGE: We've heard from several of the "Avengers" stars recently about seeing the whole team in costume, but we're another step closer to seeing Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble with today's debut of a new promotional image for the film.

During the Licensing Expo 2011 convention in Las Vegas, an eagle-eyed attendee snapped a photo of an image advertising the upcoming line of "Avengers" movie-licensed merchandise. And while it's not an official movie promo image, it does give us our first decent look at Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and the new costume Captain America dons in the modern era.

The photo was snapped by Twitter user theonlyesq, and shows Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man leaping — and smashing and flying and jump-kicking — into action.

Aronofsky/BaleAfter leaving "The Wolverine" behind, all eyes have been on Darren Aronofsky's next big move. And while it doesn't seem likely that he's abandoned one superhero project in favor of another, there is some speculation that Aronofsky's next will team him together with a new superhero actor.

Multiple reports reveal that Aronofsky is currently shopping around a big-screen version of "Noah," his long-developing retelling of the timeless tale of Noah's Ark. "Noah" reportedly comes with a $130 million budget, but without a leading man already in place, perhaps Aronofsky's big-budget biblical blockbuster is a bit of a tough sell… which is why he's calling in Batman for air support.

That's right: New York Magazine is reporting that the "Black Swan" director has been speaking with "The Dark Knight Rises" star Christian Bale about starring in "Noah" in an effort to secure studio backing for the film.

Sean BeanSean Bean is having one heck of a week. As if his breathtaking turn in the latest episode of "Game of Thrones" wasn't enough for the guy, Bean was also reportedly stabbed in the arm during a bar altercation earlier in the week. But don't sob for the erstwhile Lord of Winterfell; good old Ned quickly shrugged off the attack, went back inside the bar and ordered himself a pint. Bean's handling of the situation is getting plenty of virtual high fives in today's edition of Twitter-Wood.

There's more news lurking about the online movie space today, of course: iconic newsman Larry King has put out the call for "Harry Potter" questions for an upcoming CNN special, while Judd Apatow gives an update on the status of his next movie.

I'm @roundhoward and this is Twitter-Wood for June 14, 2011.

TransformersWith only 15 days until "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" hits theaters, Paramount is doing its best to amp up our anticipation for the third installment of Michael Bay's saga. And they're doing it pretty well, too, considering these two words: Sentinel Prime.

Yahoo released eight new stills from the upcoming film that combined a look at the human characters in the film with some new shots of the giant fighting robots we are most looking forward to seeing. While we're sure there are going to be a whole lot more surprises in the movie once it is released June 29, it's nice to get continuous sneak peeks at how great the action is going to be.

I'd like to start this post off with a hearty heap of praise and admiration for one Bill Hader. This is an actor and comedian with such crazy talent, it blows my mind he's not a massive star. Yet. To quote the great Mindy Kaling and her hilarious Twitter account: "God, when is Bill Hader going to be Bridesmaid'ed or Sarah Marshall'ed? He's the f---ing best and I never swear on twitter."

Anyway! We can be happy about the fact that Hader is a very busy man and has multiple projects in the works, outside of his brilliance on "Saturday Night Live." When MTV News ran into him at the "Super 8" premiere last week, I asked him if there was any truth to his IMDb'assigned role in "Ghostbusters 3."

"I don't know anything about that," he said about the long-delayed, long-rumored third "Ghostbusters" film. "I hear the same way you did. No joke, my friend called me and said, 'Dude, it says you're in Ghostbusters 3?' I'm like, 'I am?' I went online and saw it, [and thoght] 'Thats great.' So yeah, I know nothing."

Harry PotterIn 32 days, the end will arrive, and we aren't quite sure if we're ready yet.

Fortunately, Warner Bros. has been pumping us full of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" posters to make sure that we'll at least be prepared. A whole slew of awesome character posters hit the web last week, and now we are getting our first looks at some new banners and full posters for the flick that highlight its cinematic action. Hello, Battle of Hogwarts and escape from Gringotts!

These new posters definitely call back to some of what we saw for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1's" marketing campaign, but we're glad that WB is making sure audiences know that they have a big movie to look forward to once July 15 rolls around.

Tom CruiseTom Cruise is a perfect fit as Ethan Hunt, but perhaps he's reaching a bit with his next proposed role.

The "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" actor is reportedly in negotiations with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star as drifter Jack Reacher in an adaptation of "One Shot," based on the popular Reacher thrillers from author Lee Child. "The Usual Suspects" writer Christopher McQuarrie would write and direct the film. Cruise's casting is undoubtedly a bit of a curveball for fans of the Reacher series, since the character is described as 6'5" and roughly 250 pounds — not exactly Cruise's physical type.

Check out the rest of today's biggest casting news past the jump, including new additions to "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Great Gatsby" casts!

Super 8FROM MTV MOVIES: As well as anyone, J.J. Abrams knew the challenges facing "Super 8" this summer. It's not a sequel or based on an existing property; it doesn't feature any major stars; its central conceit had to remain largely mysterious, and its release date plopped the flick in a crowded field of superheroes, robots and wizards.

"We're a complete anomaly in a summer of huge films," the director told the Los Angeles Times, "and we don't want to be so silent or coy that people don't care or don't hear about it."

As the film's June 10 release date neared, it seemed people might not have heard about "Super 8," nor cared to check it out if they had: Box-office tracking was said to be weak, with a possible opening weekend as low as $25 million. But as reviews continued to be strong, and Paramount staged over 300 Twitter-sponsored screenings at midnight on the Thursday before release, the tide seemed to be turning.

And it did. "Super 8" grossed $37 million domestically. That put the alien-invasion film roughly in line with one alien invasion film based on an original idea and starring lesser-known talent (2009's "District 9") but slightly below another (2008's "Cloverfield"). Yet what separates "Super 8" from these other movies is the talent behind the camera: Abrams in the director's chair and Steven Spielberg taking on a producer role for a film that is an undeniable homage to films like "E.T." With those names leading the charge, expectations were high as soon as the project was announced in May 2010. And now opinions among industry experts seem to be split. Is $37 million for "Super 8" a success or a disappointment — or somewhere in between?

Now that "Super 8" has finally arrived in theaters, we can talk freely amongst ourselves about how awesome it is. Haters, hit the road, this post is for my fellow "Super 8" super fans.

There are a lot of things to love about this film, my favorite being the young cast members. They are just so darn adorable! If you need further proof, watch them talk about the best "Super 8" mystery theories here.

Another example of their heart-melting adorableness is their movie-within-a-movie, "The Case," a zombie movie that the six youngsters actually wrote and directed themselves. Unfortunately I went to an early screening of the film and did not know to stay through the credits to see "The Case" in all its splendor, I found out the hard way afterward. Watch the boys' absolutely priceless reactions to this sad news below, followed by a few more details about their short film, and their brief explanation of why other filmgoers should not repeat my mistake.

"Aww, nooo! You didn't stay?!?" exclaimed Zach Mills, Riley Griffiths, Gabriel Basso, Ryan Lee and Joel Courtney, collectively.
