Racing superstar Lightning McQueen and his bumbling pick-up truck pal Mater are back on the road in "Cars 2," zooming into theaters on June 24. The Pixar sequel sees your favorite automobiles speeding overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race, but things get complicated when Mater finds himself mistakenly caught up in a game of international espionage.

But you know Mater — for all his upsides, the guy's parts aren't fine-tuned enough to make him an even halfway decent spy. Heck, the poor truck can't even tell Wasabi apart from ice cream. Watch his latest hilarious mistake in our exclusive "Cars" clip below!

"Cars 2" opens on June 24, 2011.

For those of you looking for a good time this Thursday night (June 16), MTV has got you covered with the latest addition to our slate of original programming, the teen thriller, "The Truth Below." The film revolves around four high school friends, played by Gillian Zinser, Ricky Mabe, Reid Ewing and Nick Thurston, who while driving home from a spring break ski trip, suddenly find themselves in a life-or-death situation.

"'The Truth Below' is a movie about these four kids, three of which are right here," Nick Thurston told MTV News when the three actors stopped by our west coast studio. "We're on a ski trip, on our way back home and end up crashing into a mountain side and getting covered up with a whole bunch of snow in an avalanche. It's about what happens in the car after we all realize we're stuck down there," he explained. "How we figure out what we're going to do."

"Our secrets start coming out," Reid Ewing added about his and his fellow actors' characters. "We start learning more about each other, all the things we've been hiding, we get to judge each other on a whole new level."

"The truth is that my focus has been so much on finishing 'Super 8.'"

That's essentially been J.J. Abrams stock answer to any and all who ask about the status of "Star Trek 2," the follow-up to the franchise he rebooted to critical acclaim and big box-office bucks in 2009. While Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof had been hired to script the sequel, the project wouldn't be able to kick into high gear until Abrams wrapped up "Super 8."

Now, though, we've reached that point, as Abrams himself told us on Tuesday (June 15) to chat about the $35.5 million "Super 8" opening. And while he's working closely with Orci, Lindelof and Kutzman on the story, he admitted "Trek 2" might end up missing the June 29, 2012 release date that Paramount Pictures announced last year.

"I would say it's not an impossibility to do it, but the studio agrees the most important thing is that the movie be good," Abrams told us. "No one wants to make something that makes its date but isn't necessarily worth your time. I want to make sure that whatever we do and whenever it comes out that it's something that people will have a great time watching."

Paul Rudd may be "Our Idiot Brother," but he's also a guy we love to love.

A new theatrical trailer has hit the web for his upcoming flick "Our Idiot Brother," and it's definitely a lot more charming than the teaser we saw back in April. Rudd plays a good-hearted goofball whose kindness gets in the way of his brains most of the time, to humorous but disastrous results. Co-starring Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer and Zooey Deschanel as his sisters who are forced to take him in, the new trailer showcases the Rudd we all find so endearing more than previous promotional material has.

Snow WhiteThe race between Universal and Relativity Media's competing "Snow White" projects has been on for quite a while now, but if your ears are suddenly perking up, there's good reason: the starting pistol has officially been fired off.

Relativity has issued as press release stating that production on Tarsem Singh's "Untitled Snow White" will begin on June 20, 2011, less than a week away, and not a moment too soon: the project recently shifted its release date from June 2012 to March 2012, in an apparent effort to get in front of cameras before the Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth-starring "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Check out an excerpt from the press release past the jump, which reveals some interesting new story information.

VoldemortContinuing the deluge of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" posters as we head into the final month before the film's release, today we have a companion poster released to go along with the ones we saw yesterday.

The first poster highlighted the good guys in the bunch -- Harry, Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys and Neville Longbottom, to name a few -- and this new one shows off our favorite baddies. There's Voldemort at the center, of course, with Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy flanking him, and Narcissa Malfoy looking on in the background. All this is set in the ruins of Hogwarts, as these posters have had a tendency to be, and the Death Eaters look poised for battle.

But there might be a little bit more to this poster if we read more into it. Spoilers up ahead!

OscarsThe 82nd Academy Awards opened up the Best Picture race from the traditional five spots to a more inclusive field of ten, casting a wider net that allowed some delightfully unexpected movies on the path towards Oscar glory.

But it looks like the gates are closing once again — well, maybe, at least. The Hollywood Reporter has the news that the Academy has revised the Best Picture rules for the second time in as many years, this time creating a system where the final nominees for next year's awards could range from anywhere between five and ten contenders. In order to receive a Best Picture nomination, a movie needs to receive "enough first-place votes on the nomination ballots to amount to five percent of the ballots cast."

The Academy says that this new procedure adds "a new element of surprise," but from where I'm sitting, it's a new element of disappointment. Imagine, if you will, if these new restrictions were in place for the past two Oscar ceremonies — who would've been left off the playing field?

Sam WorthingtonWe already know that Sam Worthington and James Cameron are heading back to Pandora for two more "Avatar" movies, but that won't necessarily be the last — or even the first — sci-fi collaboration between the two of these talents.

The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Cameron, Worthington, "Transformers" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and writer Will Staples are teaming together to create "Myth," a project that has no further details beyond the fact that "it's big, it's sci-fi, and it's got lots of action." Cameron is not expected to direct, and at this point, it's even unclear that Worthington will star in the film — though one can certainly hope!

Though Worthington's casting in "Myth" remains unconfirmed, there's plenty of other new cast additions going on in Hollywood today. Check them all out past the jump!

John CarterLadies and gentlemen, feast your eyes: "John Carter" has arrived.

Well, in a manner of speaking, at least. The first official poster for "John Carter" is here, showing Taylor Kitsch as the military man who finds himself suddenly thrust into the thick of an epic conflict between the various warring parties on Mars. It's Pixar staple Andrew Stanton's first live-action directorial effort, and based on what co-star Mark Strong had to say about the project recently — not to mention what we're seeing in this teaser poster — it's looking like "Carter" won't disappoint.

Check out the full poster past the jump!

If you haven't seen "Super 8," well, first of all, shame on you. Just as importantly, however, now is a good time for would-be watchers and spoiler-phobes to look away — because we're about to pull the curtain on J.J. Abrams' latest mystery thriller all the way back.

Abrams swung by MTV News earlier this week and gave us a big heaping spoonful of answers and explanation, finally going into detail behind the menace at the center of "Super 8." Click past the jump for Abrams' detailed thoughts on the monster's origins, designs and — most importantly for some — its connections to "Cloverfield."
