The only thing longer than the title for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is the two month wait for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" that we're still suffering through. Thankfully, 20th Century Fox is making things a little bit easier on us with a new trailer. That's right — another new trailer!
Not that I'm complaining or anything. Round after round after round, the trailers for the new "Apes" movies have converted me from complete skeptic to cautious optimist to, finally, fully committed to the James Franco blockbuster after this new international trailer.
Why is this trailer my favorite, you ask? The short version is, John Lithgow. The new "Planet of the Apes" trailer hangs its hat fairly firmly on Lithgow's head; and while we already knew that he plays the father of Franco's character in the movie, now we also know that, hey, he's a pretty good dude! Caesar gave him a big old hug, so that should clue you in. It's nice to see Lithgow breaking away from Trinity Killer mode; the man has versatility, and it's on full display in this "Apes" trailer.
Then there's Draco Malfoy. Err, Tom Felton, that is (sorry, I'm still in Harry Potter World Cup mania mode — and, it seems, still in shameless self-promotion mode). Though you can forgive the mistake; by the look of things, Felton's channeling his inner Slytherin once again as he torments poor Caesar. But it won't be long before Caesar and his fellow apes have their vengeance, by the look of things...
And speaking of Caesar and his fellow apes – how about those two monkeys cuddling at around the 50 second mark? Adorable! With so much heartfelt emotion going on between these two, how could you not root for a full-scale ape uprising?
Except for the part where they turn all of mankind into slaves, I guess. Yeah, that part's no good.
