Despite the fact that it centers on a train wreck, "Super 8" is anything but. The new Amblin Entertainment and Bad Robot endeavor from director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg is a stunning success on multiple levels — that's my humble opinion, at least. But you'll have a chance to make your own judgments soon enough as "Super 8" barrels into theaters this weekend.
But even though Friday's just a short two days away, why wait when you can see the movie sooner — this Thursday (June 9), to be precise?
Paramount and Twitter have teamed up for what's being described as the social networking outlet's first-ever "Tweet Movie Sneak Preview," a series of advanced viewings of "Super 8" debuting in 300 theaters all across the United States tomorrow.
How do you get involved, you ask? Easy: visit the official "Super 8" website to check out tickets and show times. Participating theaters across the country will be treating moviegoers with a free popcorn (with a concession purchase) too — so not only do you see "Super 8" early, you get to do so with a belly full of free food! Win win!
"Super 8" takes place in the summer of 1979, when a group of friends in a small Ohio town get together to make a horror movie. But the horror becomes all too real when the kids witness a devastating train crash — worse still, a dark secret lurking aboard the train has come to light, bringing a reign of terror in its wake. It's up to young Joe Lamb (Joel Courney), his friends and his father (Kyle Chandler) to uncover the truth before it's far too late.
