Guillermo Del Toro's 'Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark' Trailer Arrives In This Week's Horror Bites

Posted 6/2/11 4:37 pm EST by Alison Nastasi in Horror Bites

Are you afraid of the dark? Don't be — not when there's a creepy new trailer to watch, at least!

The Guillermo del Toro co-written and produced "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is creeping into theaters this August, and a new trailer has arrived that begs you not to turn off the lights. Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison star in the story about a family who moves into a 19th-century mansion they are restoring. The young Sally (Madison) starts to hear voices who want to draw her to the mansion's hidden and terrifying basement. Something evil is unleashed and haunts the family through the pitch black.

Check out the trailer, then catch up with more creepy creature feature news after the jump.

Check Out Rob Zombie's 'Lords of Salem' FX Shots
After delivering a poorly received sequel to the "Halloween" series, Rob Zombie made what might be considered a smart move by not retelling another horror classic ("The Blob") and instead creating an original tale, "The Lords of Salem." The film is set in the contemporary witchy capital of the US – Salem, Massachusetts – where a coven of 300 year-old demonic witches decide to stir things up. The director recently posted a few FX shots on his blog that appear to be the sculpted torso of a witch. [This one gets a NSFW warning, FYI! –JW]

Wayne Toth – who worked FX on Zombie's "Halloween" entries, "House of 1000 Corpses," and most recently the "Predators" remake – will be handling the task of sculpting "Salem's" baddies. The movie starts shooting later this year, and the always cheerful Zombie has promised it will be the "bleakest of all of [his] films."

Will the 'Human Centipede' Sequel Get Sliced and Diced by Censors?
Tom Six is back with a sequel to his gory and controversial "Human Centipede" about an insane German surgeon who creates a perversely hideous human chain. We don't know much about the plot specifics for part two, but Six is promising it will make the original film look like "My Little Pony," and god we can't wait to see that.

Screen Daily reports that the film is currently in the queue to get the go-ahead by the BBFC before a release date is announced. If it doesn't pass the censor test, it's possible that cuts will be made – but we're hoping to see Six's sequel in all its surgically deformed glory (this time with 12 people in the horrific formation – a regular party!)

Tim Burton Talks 'Dark Shadows'
The Tim Burton-directed remake of the vampire soap opera-esque "Dark Shadows" is currently underway, and Burton chatted with The Wrap about production. "It’s been hard to kind of come here because I’m just starting, and it’s a weird tone and it’s a lot of actors and, you know, we’re not starting with the simple stuff; we're sort of getting right in there," Burton explained. "You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it."

And how will the director tackle the soap opera angle of the series? "Yes, I don’t know. I’m early into it because it’s a funny tone, and that’s part of what the vibe of the show is, and there’s something about it that we want to get. But when you look at it, it’s pretty bad. I’m hoping that it will be – it’s early days, let’s put it – I’m very intrigued by the tone. It’s a real ethereal tone we’re trying to go for and I don’t know yet."

Peek the 'Burke and Hare' Image Gallery
The John Landis horror-comedy starring funnyman Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis as two gravediggers out for a buck has some pretty publicity pictures to peek at. Check out the deadly duo with Isla Fisher, Jessica Hynes, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry, Ronnie Corbett, Reece Shearsmith, David Schofield, Allan Corduner, Bill Bailey, Hugh Bonneville, and Michael Smiley in the new image gallery.

'Wrong Turn 4' Trailer Promises to Take You Back to The Bloody Beginning
If the gory, incestuous backwoods cannibal party that is the "Wrong Turn" series is blending together for you, you're not alone. There's a part four though, for those of you who want to keep the good times going – and it promises to take you back to the "bloody beginning." In the West Virginia woods, three grotesquely deformed mutants ravage and slaughter everything in their path at an isolated hospital. Decades later, the cannibal family are hunting a group of skiers who have become trapped by a blizzard (because West Virginny is the first place I always think about going skiing … ). The poster and trailer at Bloody-Disgusting promises to deliver a bloodbath to your Blu-ray player soon.
