Vin DieselTalk about Judgment Day — while Arnold Schwarzenegger puts his movie career on hold, Vin Diesel gets ready to launch a "Terminator"-like franchise of his own.

THR
reports that Diesel is producing and starring in "The Machine," a new movie that centers on "a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world's first true ultimate weapon." Twenty years after it's decommissioned and buried away, the machine is discovered by a child and the two become friends. Sounds kind of like "Terminator" meets "Iron Giant," doesn't it?

After the jump, check out the latest "Hunger Games" casting news and find out who's playing "The Transporter" in the new TV series!

Captain Jack Sparrow isn't one for romance. After all, the man has bigger things on the mind, like chasing down cursed treasure chests and winning back his precious Black Pearl — or, in the case of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," finding his way to the Fountain of Youth.

That doesn't mean he can't stop for a little squeeze on the side, of course, perhaps one that even gives him some deeply troubling "stirrings" in the depths of his heart. Indeed, Sparrow's fiercest foe in this latest adventure is not the dreaded Blackbeard or the familiar Barbossa, but the seductive Angelica, the woman in his past who got away… or, to hear her tell it, he pushed away.

The chemistry between Sparrow and Angelica boils to a bubble from their very first scene together, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer credits that electric dynamic to the real-life friendship between Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.

Though "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has a new leading lady for Captain Jack Sparrow, don't expect too much romance to be blossoming between him and his new gal pal.

Johnny Depp, who plays the beloved Jack Sparrow -- sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow -- said that any sort of love story for the pirate would "mess up the myth," which means that the chances of things getting too hot and heavy between him and Penelope Cruz on the big screen are sadly slim.

"I think if we did a scenario where it was Captain Jack really falling in love, it would most likely be a silent film. I think he would go completely catatonic and be unable to speak," Depp told MTV News. "He would probably sit there and quiver for an hour and a half."

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenegger's climb back up the Hollywood food chain was always going to be a bit rocky, and recent events have only added further obstacles to that path.

Well, for now, it looks like Schwarzenegger is putting his filmmaking comeback on hold. The former Governor of California has announced that he's stepping away from developing projects like "Cry Macho" and "Terminator 5" for the time being in order to focus on his personal life in light of his confession that he fathered a child with a longtime member of his household staff over a decade ago.

"Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines," reads a statement from Schwarzenegger's representatives at CAA. "This includes 'Cry Macho,' The 'Terminator' franchise and other projects under consideration. We will resume discussions when Governor Schwarzenegger decides."

50 CentOddballs and weirdos populate this week's Horror Bites. Some are living large (1,200 pounds to be exact), and others are blind as a bat, but Bruce Campbell (and his chin) remains horror's eternal hero and keeps things light with a new game to play.

50 Cent takes on Satan in a new based-on-the-book movie. The rapper/actor plays a blind DJ and will be starring alongside upcoming "Fright Night" actor Anton Yelchin for this tale originally penned by Dean Koontz.

An actor from "Robot Chicken" is gaining several hundred pounds for a role in David Arquette's "Glutton," which sounds like shades of David Fincher's creepy "Se7en." A family moves into a haunted house thanks to a "hauntrepreneur's" recommendation. Meanwhile, Freddy Krueger will be howling alongside strippers in a new movie that wins the award for most obvious film title ever.

Take a bite out of this week's horror news after the jump.

Harry PotterIt goes without saying that the "Harry Potter" franchise would be nothing without its fans, and now they're ready to give back.

A compilation of fan letters, photographs and artwork has been put together by "Potter" fan Lily Zalon to be released this summer in a new book called "Dear Mr. Potter." According to Zalon, the book is an attempt to capture the relationship between "Harry Potter" and its fans in their own words. In addition, "Potter' actress Evanna Lynch, best known as Luna Lovegood, shared her own experiences with the "Potter" franchise for the book.

“Until now, there's never been a truly in-depth exploration of why Potter accomplished such an unprecedented level of popularity and loyalty," Zalon said in a press release. "The letters and pictures in the book illustrate the intimate relationships millions of fans have had with the series."

Lars von TierLars von Trier has caused quite the stir over controversial comments he made at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. He's been condemned by Cannes officials and now he's getting similar abuse from film industry peers on Twitter, with a heaping amount of tongue-in-cheek jabs coming from Eli Roth.

In more pleasant news, the world got its first look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" yesterday, and one of her co-stars — Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket — was especially blown away by Lawrence's new look.

I'm @roundhoward and there's all that and more in today's Twitter-Wood for May 19, 2011.
