They say there can only be one in the "Highlander" universe, and when it comes to the franchise's upcoming reboot at Summit, it looks like "Fast Five" director Justin Lin is still the one to bring the movie to life — even if buzz on the project has slowed to a crawl in the past year.
"I've been working with ['Iron Man' writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway] on the script," Lin told MTV News in an exclusive interview, confirming that "Highlander" is still very much a priority for the filmmaker. "That's one where Summit has been really good [about letting it develop], and for me, it's about making sure that we can take it to the place where I feel comfortable and great about making it. I feel like I have a very good studio and team and we're working on it."
Of course, "Highlander" is just one of many projects that Lin has in the pipeline. In addition to the virtually guaranteed "Fast Six," Lin is also developing "Terminator 5" with Arnold Schwarzenegger attached. With so many balls in the air, it's hard to say which project the director will turn towards first.

Some good news and some bad news on the "Tomb Raider" reboot front today, folks.
Let's start with the good stuff. "Iron Man" screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been hired to pen the new "Tomb Raider" movie, which they plan on turning into an "origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sounds like a solid plan to us, so long as the movie focuses less on Lara's upbringing and more on her early days as a raider — or some healthy mix of the two, ala "Batman Begins."
Now for the bad news: if you were hoping that oft-rumored candidate Olivia Wilde would step into Lara's signature shorts, you're in for a bit of a disappointment. We spoke with the "Cowboys & Aliens" actress recently and confronted her about these rumors, which she shot down gently but quickly.
"As far as I know right now, I'm not playing Lara Croft," she said simply. "No."

The ultimate villain, Satan, makes an appearance (twice!) in this week's Horror Bites. To start, "The Hangover's" Bradley Cooper, supposedly in talks to star in "The Crow" remake, has now set his sights on an adaptation of "Paradise Lost" – no, it has nothing to do with the metal band – and Cooper may be playing the big bad himself, Lucifer. Rutger Hauer won't let anyone show him up, though, and is also engaging in a little devilry on screen.
"Paranormal Activity 3" is slipping into "Saw's" place as the new Halloween franchise. Oren Peli and his crew have brought on a team of "documentary" filmmakers to direct their latest installment in the supernatural series. Pants will be peed this October, for sure. Meanwhile, the cast of "Piranha 3DD" is rounding out quite nicely – and may need to increase a cup size – with the addition of some familiar faces, and the "Sexiest Woman Alive."
Find out the full skinny, and relish in more horror goodies, after the jump.

Without Johnny Depp would -- or should or could -- the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies even continue? That's the big question on deck after a recent article from The Hollywood Reporter.
With "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" just a few weeks away from release, the publication spoke with Depp, who has played the now-iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in the wildly successful films since 2003, about the future of the franchise and his place in it. They report that not only has Terry Rossio already turned in a script for a fifth "Pirates" movie which Disney wants to make in 3D, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer is a go again.
But what about Depp? He told THR the decision for him to take part in the fifth, yet-to-be-titled "Pirates," "Boils down to story, script and filmmaker." In fact, it sounded like there was some reluctance on the actor's part to sign on immediately. "It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012," he said, adding, "We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."
This raises some big question marks. What would Disney do if Depp said no? Would they dare continue "Pirates" without him in Captain Jack's boots? Would fans jump ship if he did, too? Shiver me timbers, it's too much to think about.
Until the Johnny/"Pirates" mystery is solved, check out the rest of today's big casting news from Hollywood, including Brendan Fraser's slew of new projects and Malin Akerman's attachment to "Rock of Ages."

The 9-year-old in me has been excited about the Judd Apatow-produced Pee-wee Herman movie since it was formally announced last summer, but it's been a while since we've heard any news on Pee-wee's highly anticipated return to the big-screen, his first cinematic adventure since 1988's "Big Top Pee-wee."
Thanks to a delightful encounter with Apatow and buddy Paul Feig during the press day for their upcoming "Bridesmaids," (Apatow produced, Feig directed), I have gleaned the following new facts: the film is still happening, it will probably not be rated NC-17, and Feig wants to play the "King of something" in it.
"All the Pee-wee stuff is for a wide audience," Apatow said when asked if he's going for a more adult or broad audience-targeted film. "'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' was for a wide audience. [Paul Reubens] is about to hand in the draft and I'm very, very excited. I thought his HBO show was hysterical and there is nothing more fun in life than reading pages that Paul Reubens has written for Pee-wee Herman. It's just the treat of all time."

Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams successfully restored Ethan Hunt to big-screen glory with "Mission Impossible III," but when "Ghost Protocol" comes our way this December, Abrams will be stepping away from the director's seat in favor of a producer role.
But don't worry: the mission is in the very capable hands of Brad Bird, the man responsible for animated classics like "The Incredibles." When we spoke with Abrams on the phone last week, the "Impossible" producer said that Hunt's next mission is loaded with Bird's signature style -- which is pretty surreal, considering Bird's newness to live-action filmmaking.
"I couldn't be more excited about that," Abrams told us about Bird's work on the film. "Not only is the movie coming along, but what I've seen is kind of unbelievable."

Despite it's stop-and-start beginnings, everything we've been hearing recently about Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" feature film adaptation sounds like music to our ears. Johnny Depp as Barnabus Collins? Magic. Another Burton and Depp collaboration? Also awesome. Not to mention a cast of excellent players: Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Grace Moretz, and now up and comer (and Depp lookalike) Thomas McDonell, late of "Prom," starring as a younger version of Johnny.
Another name that had been thrown into the mix was esteemed and accomplished actor Michael Sheen, rumored to have signed on to play Roger Collins. But MTV News spoke with the actor at the "Midnight in Paris" press junket today and learned that, unfortunately, he will not be appearing in the film.
"I, I, can't really talk about it," Sheen said when asked about the project. "I'm not going to be doing it, so..." he trailed off, which totally burst my bubble. I then pretended that since Sheen is not in the film, I was no longer interested in it, which made him laugh.

The "Star Wars" prequels don't get a lot of love from fans of the franchise. It's understandable. But on today of all days we have to show some appreciation for even these newer chapters of George Lucas' epic space saga. Search your hearts (and calendars) and you'll see why.
That's right, it's May 4th, "Star Wars" Day, when everyone is asked to be one with the Force. So May the Fourth be with you as it is with us, as we try -- try -- to bestow some compassion on all of Lucas' creations.
"The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones," and "Revenge of the Sith" follow Anakin Skywalker's rise to power and fall to the Dark Side. Grim stuff, but within the tragic tale (for more reasons than one) are plenty of epic duels, surprising revelations and classic droid action. Here are some of our favorite scenes from the prequels.
