The movie studio and "Mission Impossible" star have committed to making the $100 million science fiction epic "Oblivion" from "Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski, reports Deadline. Production is set to start in October on the film about an apocalyptic future where mankind has moved into the clouds over an uninhabitable surface. Cruise plays a soldier who works alone on the surface, where he meets a beautiful woman and begins questioning everything he knows.
Modine "Rises" With Two Others
Three new actors have joined the cast of "The Dark Knight Rises," though their roles are being kept firmly under wraps, according to Variety. "Full Metal Jacket" actor Matthew Modine is on board to play a character named Nixon, while Tom Conti and 11-year-old Joey King have also signed on.
Lawrence Drinks "Sweet Tea"
Entertainment Weekly reported over the weekend that "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence is next setting her sights on veteran actress Sissy Spacek's directorial debut, "Sweet Tea." She would star as a mother "who gets married young and meets another man and starts thinking that maybe she made a mistake." EW has since pulled their initial report, though several other outlets have picked up on the news.
Hawke "Recalls" His Cameo
You've heard about Ethan Hawke's top-secret, blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in "Total Recall" by now, right? Turns out it won't be so brief — the actor tells Vulture that he's in the midst of memorizing his lines from "a five-page monologue." Sounds like a fairly meaty role to us!
After another strong weekend at the box office, "Bridesmaids" has found quite the following. Good thing, too, because director Paul Feig is already thinking of ideas for a sequel. "It's already been brought up," he tells Vulture. "When you get a group that's this deep and this good, it's a crime to not use them again. You just want to make sure that you do it as well as you did the first one and try to make it better, even. So, we're up for the challenge."
