'Lost' One Year Later: Looking Back At 'The End'
Posted 5/23/11 8:16 am EST by Josh Wigler in Commentary, TV
There's a numerical sequence in "Lost" lore that has great significance for the overarching plot and the characters themselves: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. But for the fans, there's a different sequence with perhaps even greater significance: 5/23.
One year ago today, on May 23, 2011, "Lost" delivered "The End." The series finale, written by co-showrunners and devoted defenders of the light Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, brought an end to six years worth of frequently controversial and always debatable subject matter revolving around time travel, science versus faith and other bizarre topics.
Whether you loved it or you hated it, chances are good that you felt strongly one way or the other regarding "Lost's" ending. In celebration of the completed show's one year anniversary, MTV News reached out to several expert commentators in the "Lost" community for their perspective on "The End."
Our esteemed list of "Lost" experts includes…
- Jo Garfein of Get LOST with JOpinionated. Jo specialized in extensive episode analysis and theorizing on her blog throughout the show's run, with highlights including attending the red carpet premiere of Season 6 in Hawaii and hosting a series finale panel with some key "Lost" cast members.
- Erika S. Olson of Long Live Locke. Erika first started writing about "Lost" following Sayid's first flashback episode, "Solitary," in 2004. Since then, she's pursued a career as a full-time freelance writer, with highlights of her "Lost" experience including meeting Terry O'Quinn (twice!) and touring filming locations in Oahu.
- Anil Kapur of The ODI "Lost" Podcast. Best known to frequent "Lost" blog readers as The ODI and for his collaborations with Dark UFO, Anil found himself fully satisfied by the "Lost" series finale, particularly with the resolution of Jack Shephard's storyline.
- And yours truly, Josh Wigler, editor of MTV Movies Blog. I wrote about the show's final season all year long at Movies Blog, bringing you exclusive interviews with Team Darlton, Jorge Garcia and even the wicked Ben Linus himself. I also provided a special guest commentary track on the season six episode "The Last Recruit" for ABC.com. I also love Smocke.
Thanks to our guest experts for their unique insight into the ending of "Lost." Let us know how you're celebrating the completed series' one year anniversary in the comments section and on Twitter!
