Unless you're under 18 years old and you're not into awesome, wonderful things, you have no excuse not to see "Bridesmaids" tonight. Seriously, it's fantastic for a wide variety of reasons, but here's the big one: Melissa McCarthy.
Chances are good that you know McCarthy best for her recurring roles on "Gilmore Girls," "Samantha Who?" and the ongoing sitcom "Mike and Molly." But pretty soon, those memories will fade away in favor of her work in "Bridesmaids" as Megan, the tough-as-nails and most absurdly inappropriate member of an already rowdy group of bridesmaids.
From her in-flight tryst with a man she suspects to be an air marshal to her desire to put a bachelorette party together with "Fight Club" as the unifying theme — not to mention her unhealthy obsession with puppies — McCarthy is responsible for some of the brightest gems that "Bridesmaids" has to offer. And while her breakout performance is bound to shock most viewers, co-stars Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph couldn't be less surprised by McCarthy's work.
"We've known her forever," Rudolph told MTV News when we asked about McCarthy's undeniably hilarious "Bridesmaids" presence. Wiig chimed in: "That's normal to us. When we see her on 'Mike and Molly' or on 'Gilmore Girls,' it's like, 'Oh my gosh. Why is she talking normal?'"
"That's vintage McCarthy right there [in 'Bridesmaids'], that the world is finally seeing," Rudolph added. "She's a funny mofo. Truly one of the all-time funniest there is."
But McCarthy isn't just a great comedian, according to Rudolph. "She's a terrific mom!" she exclaimed, before adding with a laugh: "Oh my gosh, that's so boring for MTV!"
"But she's a terrible wife," Wiig weighed in, saving her co-star and pal from boring you poor readers to death.
