The Dark TowerThere are plenty of reasons to be excited for Ron Howard's planned "The Dark Tower" adaptation, and now here's another one to add to the pile. "Heroes," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Falling Skies" writer/producer Mark Verheiden has been tapped to co-write and produce the planned NBC TV series segment of "Dark Tower" along with producer Akiva Goldsman.

First, here's what we know. Javier Bardem has been chosen from a pool of hopefuls to play the Gunslinger, with names like Naomi Harris rumored for other roles. Ron Howard will be directing the initial "Dark Tower" film and the first season of the television series, with the director of the later movies and seasons to be determined at a later date. Goldsman will write both the first film and the series, and now Deadline has the news that Verheiden is co-writing the series, with Stephen King and Brian Grazer along as producers as well. Sounds like a solid enough plan to us!

But who is Verheiden? What makes him a smart choice for "The Dark Tower"?

Winter is still coming! Only five more days until HBO's epic new series "Game of Thrones" is finally unveiled upon the masses, and to celebrate this highly-anticipated occasion, MTV News is rolling out a few more fun snippets from our interviews with the cast members and creators.

Today's installment features Sean Bean, an esteemed actor who is no stranger to the realms of fantasy and fiction. Bean plays Eddard "Ned" Stark, a noble commanding officer and Lord of Winterfell who is faced with the very challenging and politically-charged dilemma of answering a call of duty versus staying out of things altogether.

When we caught up with Bean back in January, he revealed that one of the reasons he was eager to take on the role was the chance to play a good man for a change, a character with an extraordinary sense of honor.

Green DayFROM MTV MOVIES: It's been green-lit, killed, resurrected and put on the back burner, but now it appears that the long-in-the-works film version of Green Day's American Idiot album might finally become a reality.

On Wednesday (April 13), Reuters reported that Universal is in negotiations to pick up the screen rights to the Broadway version of "Idiot," and has hired Michael Mayer — who directs the stage production — to shoot the movie version.

Reuters also reported that Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning writer of 2008's "Milk," is "in discussions" to write the screenplay, and that Tom Hanks will serve as producer on the film, along with Green Day themselves. (Hanks and his business partner Gary Goetzman were producers on the film version of the Broadway smash "Mamma Mia!," the musical based on the songs of ABBA.)

Bradley CooperBradley Cooper, here's hoping you know how to fly.

Splash Page reports that "The Hangover: Part II" star is in talks to headline Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's remake of "The Crow." Not only would Cooper have the not-so-easy-task of taking on the iconic and beloved character Eric Draven, but he'll have to do so while preserving the memory of the late, great Brandon Lee, who died in the process of making the original movie. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but sources say the actor is "keen to board the project."

Check out the rest of today's biggest casting news from Hollywood, including Sean Penn and Christian Bale snapping up "The Last Photograph" and Rufus Sewell taking a bite out of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

Tom HanksWe've known that an adaptation of David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas" would be Tom Tykwer's next project alongside the Wachowskis for quite some time now. Since initial word first emerged, all three have been attached to (and in Tykwer's case, finished) various projects. Although it's been a while since we've heard a peep about the Wachowskis' project "Cobalt Neural 9" or their adaptation of Robin Hood, it looks like the long-gestating "Cloud Atlas" is about to get its groove on.

Deadline is reporting that the film will finally start shooting this fall, with Tom Hanks the first star to sign his name on the dotted line. (Other actors whose names have been tossed in the hat are Halle Berry and James McAvoy, but we all know how trustworthy casting rumors are, especially old ones!)

Although Deadline reports that the trio will be "co-directing," it seems unlikely in this reporter's opinion that all three will share duties. Any way it shakes out, this will be a difficult project to adapt and direct -- and we'll tell you why past the jump!

"Scream 4" arrives in theaters this Friday, and with Wes Craven's newest nightmare comes a new killer wearing the Ghostface mask. But who exactly is the knife-wielding maniac beneath the hood?

Don't ask the cast of the latest "Scream" sequel — those guys are sworn to secrecy. But that doesn't mean they won't give you impassioned arguments for why they're not the killer.

We spoke with several of the "Scream" cast members and asked them why the audience should believe that they're not responsible for slaughtering their fellow actors in the series' impending reboot. What we received in turn was a healthy mix of compelling logic, mysterious questions and even some not-so-convincing arguments over why they're not the latest "Scream" killer. Watch their pleas in the video below and click past the jump to read what they had to say.

James CameronThe Na'vi are on the move, thanks to James Cameron.

The director's two planned "Avatar" sequels have packed up shop and are headed to Manhattan Beach, California, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Our guess is that the setting of the next two parts in Cameron's epic science fiction saga will move locations as well. Since the Omaticaya's Hometree was destroyed in "Avatar," your guess is as good as ours as to where they'll be heading to set up a new home base.

After the jump, take a walk with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel," find out which zombie war flick is actually getting made, and hit the streets with Ghostface.
