It might be simplistic to say that the horror genre has fractured since the "Scream" franchise last appeared on screen in 2000, but not wholly inaccurate. In the eleven years since Wes Craven's original trilogy hit the screens, screamers of all kinds have filled our need for things that go bump in the night.

Today, the franchise returns in the form of "Scream 4," which brings much of the film's original cast back for a new adventure. Good filmmakers are always thinking of new things, as Craven explained to us last week, and "Scream 4" promises new commentary on the genre he helped to popularize. Here's a taste of how his genre of choice has changed since we last saw Ghostface, and how "Scream 4" fits into the new "mainstream" tradition.

American GodsThe Home Box Office network has already won our heart and undying love for bringing one of our favorite book series to television, "Game of Thrones," but today news broke that HBO is in early development stages to bring yet another excellent book, Neil Gaiman's "American Gods," to the small screen.

According to Deadline, the project was brought to HBO by Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, with renowned cinematographer Robert Richardson attached to co-write the pilot with Gaiman.

We almost feel that there's no further reason to elaborate on why this is awesome news, but just in case, MTV Staff Writer Kara Warner and Movies Blog Editor Josh Wigler are here to school you on why an HBO adaptation of "American Gods" could be a truly divine television experience.

James BondFinally, James Bond is actually coming to a theater near you some day soon, thanks to an agreement reached by Sony and MGM.

Deadline was the first to post a press release announcing that Sony is distributing "James Bond 23" alongside MGM, and that they're already looking at "Bond 24" as well. We're hoping this means we'll be seeing MGM's "Red Dawn" and "Cabin In The Woods" through Sony as well, though nothing is official yet. In exchange, MGM will co-finance several Sony pictures, including David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

After the jump, find out which unreleased robot movie already has a sequel in the works, the line-up for Cannes and what "Fast Five" director Justin Lin has to say about his "Terminator" plans.

Every movie depends on secrecy to a degree, but the "Scream" franchise hinges upon it entirely. If you go into your first screening knowing who the killer is, there's no question that you're missing out on some of the wonder that Wes Craven and his team have in store for you.

"Scream 4" hits theaters tonight at midnight, and thankfully, the biggest secrets of the film remain largely unspoiled online and elsewhere. It's actually not surprising that Dimension has been able to keep a lid on things for so long — because not even the cast of the movie themselves were allowed to read a full "Scream 4" script in order to prevent any and all possible leaks.

After the jump, hear the enormous lengths that the "Scream" team went through to keep their secrets from the actors themselves.

Hangover 2The boys are back in town, and they're ready to party. Or, at least the monkey is.

Six new character posters for "The Hangover: Part II" have hit the web, and we're glad that Warner Bros. is finally taking a second look at our favorite people in the flick beyond just the wolf pack. That means Doug, Mr. Chow and, yes, our unnamed little simian, all have their own posters for us to drool over.

Head past the jump to check out our breakdown of the new posters!

People were already drawing comparisons between Taylor Lautner's "Abduction" and Matt Damon's Jason Bourne series well before the "Twilight" star debuted his latest film's first full trailer last night, but now, there's simply no denying the shared traits between the two movies -- not even Taylor would fight the comparisons.

"It definitely has a lot of similarities to 'Bourne,'" he confessed during last night's MTV First: Taylor Lautner event, where the young actor debuted the "Abduction" trailer. "I would say Nathan Price's journey takes place before Jason Bourne's started. When Jason realized, when he was searching for his true identity, he was already a trained expert. Now Nathan, [he's just discovering his abilities]."

If Taylor's already entertaining the comparisons, then it's only fair to ask: who would win in a fight between Nathan and Jason?

Rise of the Planet of the ApesThe trailer for the succinctly named "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" dropped today, sending the movie world into an ape-like frenzy. But it's not just the trailer itself that's catching some attention -- some are taking issue with the film's new title. While certain fans are upset with the name, one Hollywood director got the inside scoop on the film's "original working title."

As if that wasn't enough, the "Rock of Ages" director announced some huge casting news for the musical through his Twitter account. We won't give it away yet (okay, maybe we already did), but he's British, you know his name, and he's married to Katy Perry. Any guesses?

I'm @TravisHelwig and this is Twitter-Wood for April 14th, 2011.

It seems only natural, having read "Game of Thrones" and being an avid fan of HBO, for those two to come together this Sunday in the form of an epic new TV series. But series author George R.R. Martin says the process of bringing his fantasy novels to the screen was easier said than done.

"I had had other inquiries from people who wanted to do it and I didn’t like the things they said, or people would tell me oh, we want to do this as a feature film, and I'd say how the hell are you going to do this is as a feature film? It's gigantic! You can't get it into two hours," Martin said. "So then I met with [show creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] and they said all the right things. I had a great feeling about them from the first. They loved the books, they knew the books inside and out. We had a lunch that lasted into supper. It was terrific. So I felt good."

Still, it was hard for Martin to feel completely comfortable putting his story in other peoples' hands.
