Game of ThronesThe things HBO does for love.

The network confirmed today that "Game of Thrones" will return for a second season, despite the show's good but not great opening numbers. But the ratings were solid enough, and considering the passionate built-in fan base for the show and what non-believers were able to see for themselves in the first episode, one thing is for sure: winter is sticking around for another year.

There are plenty of exciting twists and turns in store in season one, but based on the progression of the novels, "Game of Thrones" should pick up the pace even further once we get to season two, which will be an adaptation of the second book in George R.R. Martin's series, "A Clash of Kings." After the jump, we detail all the great stuff you viewers out there have in store next year -- but be warned, spoilers lurk below!

There are still a good five months until Taylor Lautner's latest, "Abduction," hits theaters, but based on the great response the film's trailer got, we figure it's never too soon to start thinking about franchises.

Lautner already has one strong franchise -- "The Twilight Saga" -- under his belt, so when MTV News caught up with the star to talk about "Abduction," conversation naturally turned to the idea of making the action flick into a series just like the Jason Bourne films.

Despite various Internet rumors to the contrary, the long drawn out casting saga of "The Bourne Legacy" has still not reached a conclusion in naming an official new star. A brief recap of the soap opera: First, Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass out, Tony Gilroy in. Then, a whole bunch of "hot" up-and-coming and established actors were named to a list of potential stars, including Alex Pettyfer, Taylor Kitsch, Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund, Luke Evans, etc. That list was narrowed down further, when a new wildcard, Jeremy Renner, was reportedly offered the role.

Not so, it seems, judging by the lack of confirmation or announcement from writer/director Gilroy and backing studio Universal. It is therefore our journalistic duty to ask all past, present and future "Legacy" contenders for their thoughts on Gilroy and the film, which is exactly what I did when I ran into Taylor Kitsch at a press day for his new movie "The Bang Bang Club" over the weekend.

Sometimes when you ask, you really do receive. So you're welcome for asking earlier for some new "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" footage, because today we are greeted with the opening scene from the upcoming flick.

In February we tried to guess what the opening scene of "Part 2" would be, and it turns out our speculation was correct. The clip kicks off with Harry standing over Dobby's grave (there it is, for all of your missing it at the end of "Part 1") and ends with the most badass delivery of a line we have ever seen Daniel Radcliffe deliver.

Intrigued yet? Read on!

Todd PhillipsDon't worry, people: Todd Phillips does not endorse cigarette smoking for simians.

The Internet was abuzz yesterday with word that Phillips had apparently gotten Crystal the monkey addicted to smoking on the set of "The Hangover: Part II," but today he clarified to MovieLine that that is not, in fact, the case. "That was a joke. I make comedies," he said in a statement. "If you read the story, it doesn’t even make sense. 'On the set of her new film, she won’t stop smoking cigarettes'. Umm. Really? Maybe just take them away from her. Or at least take her money away so she can’t buy them any longer." At least he's taking it in good stride, saying that the headline "PETA pissed after Todd Phillips gets 'Hangover 2' monkey addicted to cigarettes" is "one for the office wall."

After the jump, find out which director has picked up "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," what Matt Reeves' next project will be and whether or not Sylvester Stallone is directing "The Expendables 2."

In case you haven't seen or heard, MTV News was part of an exclusive group invited to the Paramount lot last week to see some footage of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," and chat with director Michael Bay. To be honest, I was not all that excited going in, given, you know, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," but I'm happy to report that the footage was absolutely killer -- and the lengthy conversation with Bay even better.

As such, I present the following "best of" moments from the interview, wherein Bay hilariously calls out Shia LaBeouf for being a "grump," filming his most intense action sequences yet, and gets a little touchy about being criticized for his quick-cut editing style and Paul Greengrass getting Oscar nominations.

Never let it be said that creating a feature film adaptation of a beloved novel series is an easy task. Harder still is tackling the source material when another beloved series of movie adaptations already exists, albeit in another language.

Such is the case with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," director David Fincher's currently-shooting adaptation of the late Stieg Larsson's internationally successful crime novel. It's the first installment of the Swedish-language Millennium Trilogy that's already received a widely acclaimed adaptation from director Niels Arden Oplev. And yes, you read that correctly — despite the fact that "Dragon Tattoo" has been in production for many, many months already, the erstwhile "Social Network" director is still shooting.

"Fincher is shooting that movie for another six years," joked co-star Robin Wright when we caught up with her at the "Conspirator" press junket last week. "He literally has 8,000 days to finish the movie. He's still shooting. We've been shooting since September!"

ScreamDespite a vaguely disappointing opening box office, most die hard horror fans rushed into theaters to catch "Scream 4" this weekend, and the reviews were mostly positive. The litany of plot twists and meta-jokes were enough to satisfy one of Earth's biggest pop singers and even lead one "Scream" alumnus to wish she hadn't been killed off so soon.

Many people who saw "Scream 4" this weekend were also treated to a brand new trailer for the summer comedy "Bridesmaids." All the hubbub is making the film's director refreshingly excited, so he took to the tweets to make some odd requests. And then apologize.

And unless you spent the weekend in isolation, you know that everyone was talking about Nic Cage's bizarre run in with the law and the reality TV star who bailed him out of prison. Sometimes Hollywood makes it too easy for comedians.

I'm @TravisHelwig and this is Twitter-Wood for April 18th, 2011.

Sometimes life give you the finger, and sometimes it gives you an exclusive clip from "Hesher," the upcoming indie dramedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman.

We've got a first look at a scene from the movie for you right here on Movies Blog, but be warned that it falls under the red-band, not-so-safe-for-work category. Watch under the right circumstances!
